I expect the parks to be closed Sunday through Tuesday at least. I think if damage isn't bad they'll reopen Wednesday and cancel HHN TM previews. Latest UOR opens by Friday for HHN, WDW opens Thursday latest.

It really depends on the damage, but Disney going to be pushing hard to re-open by Tuesday, if not limited openings Monday afternoon (say Springs and MK). I imagine other parks will follow suit if at all possible. I expect a half-day Saturday, maybe 6 pm closings across property.

Did any of them ever re-open when Matthew left the area? The weather wasn't very harsh in the late afternoon last year.

Not a ton of data to back this up just yet, but it seems that Irma is tracking a bit more northerly (NW) than anticipated recently. If this trend continues, the storm should begin it's northward turn 'early' which would have the eye going further off of the east coast of FL.

Specifically thinking of Orlando, I'm not sure which would be worse. A landfall in SE FL that rides up the state and through (near) Orlando; or if the storm doesn't go over mainland FL and ends up just offshore to the East of Orlando. The 1st option may cause the storm to weaken a lot before reaching Orlando (but this would be really bad for SE FL.) The 2nd option may see a stronger storm up by Orlando, but it could also be far enough offshore that it's not devastating.

Anyway, it seems that no matter what, at this point, the southern Bahamas are really in for it.

I'm moderately disgusted the parks haven't made any changes in operations yet. They know Sunday isnt going to be good weather no matter what.

I was supposed to arrive on Monday, 9/11/2017. I watched Irma with growing concern for all the islands as well as my own vacation. I am on the phone with Disney to cancel my tickets (two hour wait currently). Like an idiot, I didn't purchase trip insurance even though I was booking through Dave's DVC Rentals. No refund. They might be able to resell the points but no good otherwise. At work, people are asking me why I'm not concerned about losing money on this. I think that the reason is this: Losing some money is far less impactful than what many will be going through in the coming days or have already gone through (Harvey). Also, I have a sister who lives in Naples, FL and I wonder if she is going to try and ride it out or if she'll head out. She has lived there since moving in 1985 and it's hard to say what she is going to do.

I look at it like this. The hurricane might be gone but who knows what the aftermath will be like.

If you have a decent travel credit card like a chase sapphire you'll have trip insurance automatically that you can file a claim for.

Disney expects to make announcements and changes based on forecast on Thursday afternoon.

But having Night of Joy, Food and Wine booths, and even the fall decor and MNSSHP lighting systems up and installed right now even with the minimal forecasted tropical storm winds is dangerous.

It all needs to be down before Saturday night.

That means they should have started today st the latest.

They started last night by taking down a few banners, and I'm sure backstage they are preparing areas to move anything from the parks that can fly away.

The Hogsheads sign is probably a good candidate. So many dangling signs in a theme park. It will be interesting to see what they do in Diagon as it seems so protected from wind.

No, they reopened the next day. We rode through Matthew in Orlando last year. They wanted CMs to get their personal lives in order before coming back to work.

My son is DCP and currently working in Tomorrowland. We have encouraged him to see if he can sign up for the "ride-thru" crew which will be housed in the Contemporary during the storm and dispatched once the all clear is given. That structure is rated for a Cat 5 and at least he will be with others instead of being trapped in his room. I would also expect that power and other resources would be more stable on Disney property with generators and other backup systems in place.

Hoping for the best, hoping to not get hit with the strong part of the storm.

Yeah I was on Disney's ride out crew for all 3 2004 storms. Absolutely best place you could be, no power interruptions at all, they feed you and take care of you quite well.

Diagon can be basically mothballed in an evening of all signs, lights, and equipment.

Models are still going back and forth on if FL will see a direct hit or not. We should have a clearer picture by tomorrow night. Right now the European model shows it plowing right through the middle of the state and the US model has it bypassing the state entirely about 50 miles off the coast.

The difference between those two is the difference between just a tropical disturbance (much like Matthew was last year) and a Tropical Disaster.

GFS and the Euro Model are pretty much agreeing on a Miami area hit or at least close to the shore and going offshore towards the Carolinas now and driving all the way to Cincinnati(yay....). The NAM keeps it a little more offshore.

And in the it can always get worse category, the long range Euro model is having Jose do a loop and head right back into the FL/Cuba gap next Sunday.

The Euro model pretty much was the only one correct on Harvey, too (just for reference). That doesn't mean it will be absolutely correct again, but it does mean that we should be taking this very seriously.

Funspot did actually. Matthew really was a dud though, here in Orlando, I actually had my windows open all day enjoying the breeze. Irma packs a much bigger punch though, so even if it stays off the coast the way Matthew did, it will still have much more of an impact.

I'm hoping for the more non direct hit on FL, but prepared for the worst.

We cancelled our trip to Rock the Universe for this weekend. We have 25 youth disappointed bit who understand that with all the traffic from people evacuating, lack of availability to fuel to travel there and the likelihood of tropical force winds on our return to Tampa it is unwise to try to travel to Orlando with a state of emergency in Florida. Perhaps Universal will reimburse all the tickets we purchased?

How can we get there with no fuel available to travel over from Tampa and roads jammed with traffic? We have families leaving the state NOW to be safe. It is unsafe to travel to Universal's RTU this weekend period!

Florida college football teams have moved their games to Saturday morning NOW. RTU should be rescheduled vs encouraging churches to come on anyway.
