Bad shape is an understatement. Almost unwatchable is a better description.

And this decline was somehow unforeseeable til the bitter end? Seems like the ball was dropped by somebody. "Geez, this thing is so decrepit we have to close it...hmmm, probably could put a new attraction in that space. We should get on that soon"

Because of stupid decision making, we now get a quickly written show show based off of a crap IP shoehorned into a facility which was purpose built to house a specific E-Ticket attraction.

As I recall @Skubersky once said, when he was a tech at T2 the company never let the screen fall into such disrepair. Why spend a good chunk of money on making a new pre-show to let the screen of the main show fall to crap? They also upgraded audio in the main theater too before they closed it.

Hopefully this new show is more watchable than Sinbad

I don't think 18 months would be considered "quickly written" in theme park parlance.

I believe Alicia that permits weren't applied for until June. Those should have been applied for BEFORE they closed the attraction. I'm just not an apologist for UC or whomever is in charge.

To be fair, neither is Grease, but white people still lose their minds over it. In the little beachtown I grew up in, every musical we did was under scrutiny. Too much sex! Bad language! Adult themes! But Grease? It’s our favorite!! Mamma Mia is the same way.

I’m not saying it’s my ideal choice for a Universal park, but when I saw it in theaters this month, the thought did cross my mind

Grease is about a nice girl that turns into a slut to fit in... What's the problem.

F&F didn't even get the bar off the ground.....Thank the theme park gods for Diagon/London, HE/Gringotts. That great land has kept USF relevant and entertaining.

Good thing they didn't see the original version in Chicago. It was cleaned up for Broadway and even more so for the movie. lol

I mentioned this in another thread but is anyone else concerned this will be another case of Universal replacing an aging E-ticket due to maintenance costs and replacing it with another dud that has a shoehorned Universal IP? I mean, Terminator was a headliner back in the day with groundbreaking theme park tech and something tells me this stunt show won't exactly be a worthy replacement.

I definitely foresee Universal fans writing this off prematurely, so no matter what the outcome it's probably going to get crapped on, because that's apparently what we do now.

EDIT: To expand, I think this will end up being similar to Fallon. A serviceable replacement for an attraction that was at the end of its shelf life. Stunt shows are always at least a passable experience, and people usually enjoy them at the very least. But the fanbase has already decided this is going to be bad because of the IP. So even if this does end up like Fallon and the GP really enjoys it, the fans are going to whine and moan. They've already written it off.

I'm in no way guaranteeing this is going to turn out to be good, but I already expect the fan reaction to be that it's bad, because I already see the same fan response pattern as Fallon and F&F.

I mean, you wrote off Pandora quite a bit while it was being built so it's not like you haven't judged a book by it's cover before (i.e. mistaken IP for quality or lack-thereof).

Sure, but I never thought my opinions would mean other people wouldn't like it. I always expected it to do fairly well for DAK, if for no other reason than it had been a decade+ since its last real addition.

Plus my objection to it was more in the sense of it being a long-term mistake to spend an obscene amount of money and land on a property that has few intensely passionate fans, not that Disney couldn't make a good land out of the product. Imagineering is Imagineering. They're always going to put out a crazy product. The issue is what happens in 5-10 years.

I don't find Pandora's attraction and entertainment offerings to be more than mediocre, but I never expect the land to be bad.

I don't expect Borne to be bad either.

I think people just need to take a step back and realize it's a stunt show based off an action franchise. People will be entertained. Sure some fans may have enjoyed T2 more in the end or they may like Borne more, but we can't let the love of a previous attraction cloud judgement of a current attraction.

Agreed all around. I also want to be clear and say I think Bourne is a stupid choice to theme an attraction after. I think a generic spy story with maybe a Disaster-like comedic flair would have been the better choice. But I understand that the powers that be probably see more merch $$$ generated from an IP, no matter how old.

I do not enjoy Sinbad, even though the stunts are good. (Mainly the finale fire fall.)

I adored the Wild Wild Wild West Stunt Show. Loved every minute of it. A good story, or at least likable characters, can go a long way.
