Fight At Disneyland Caught On Video

Umm... wow. Lots of thoughts and feelings after seeing that.

Also, as a reminder, this isn't something to make light of. This is far and away beyond the run of the mill "stupid guest" story that normally comes out of the parks. This involved a heavy dose of domestic violence to multiple people who couldn't fight back in front of a crowd that seemed horrified and an incredibly slow reaction by Disneyland Security. Three women got, for all intents and purposes, sucker-punched in this video (mostly by one man - who had to be dragged off of beating up a woman senseless by park goers).

Jeez. Me too man. It was hard to watch the progression...

I see the motivation for slapping the lady in white right off the bat- she spit in his face. Still not a reason to hit anyone, ever. And it obviously should have never gotten there (duh), but his at least had a motive there. Even when she came back and he started hitting her again, he kept his hands open and was slapping her open handed. Hard, of course, but not closed fisted. Then.... he just starts wailing on his girl with closed fists. He gives her, likely his domestic partner, the full extent of his rage.

So he had enough awareness to open hand slap the lady in white. Closed fist go after the guy in black. Open hand slap the lady in white repeatedly. Closed fist to his girl in brown.
That guy can burn in a fiery hell for eternity as far as I'm concerned. F that dude.

Edit: So in rewatching, he starts wailing on the girl in brown because she knocked him mom over (while confronting the girl in white). His mom must be so proud of her son to have her honor defended in that way.

Other observations:
-Guy with the red backpack had him down in a second w/ a neck hold. I wish he and the other 2 would've stayed on him until security got there. If only there were an off-duty officer there. Doesn't excuse the ridiculously slow security team that STILL didn't restrain the guy. Pin his ass down like a cop would.
-Saddest part outside of the lady in brown getting clobbered was the toddler hitting her. The cycle will likely continue. Sigh.

Also I think they would've intervened when physical contact was made. I don't think the guy who choked out pink shirt was--even plain clothes have a dress code and to be blunt, I don't think he fit it. Also, he had a bubble wand in his waistband, which just would be odd. May just have been off-duty.

He wouldn't have been off-duty. Any off-duty would have kept him down and waited for security.

Slow as molasses Security response. Of course this was a troubling confrontation, but imagine a slow Security response if the situation was even more serious than this, like a stabbing or high level fight. I could imagine some crazy mental case out there watching this and realizing he could get away with a lot before a Security response occurs.....Very troubling and looks very very bad, more due to lack of response than the actual incident. I always thought Disney's big brother cameras and security control center would be soooo much better. Guess not.

Most places work that way.

I was at universal last year. Guy started yelling/cursing at family inside the 3 broomsticks. Before security got there guys in chef hats came running out to try and keep the abusive guy from hitting the woman he was threatening. They pretty much defused the guy by sheer numbers.

What are the limits to Disneyland's personal security? Do they have the option to handcuff/break up a fight?

Similarly, at HHN I witnessed someone getting escorted out of the exit to a house, but it was by contracted Orlando P.D.

I am curious because I'm not sure how this works

Allegedly the incident was a familial dispute, as they're all members of the same family. None of them pressed charges, but they were non-cooperative during questioning and now Anaheim PD is investigating a criminal case after seeing the video. I'm guessing domestic violence? I'm not sure what charges can be brought on them if the victims aren't seeking any.

Regardless, it's incredibly sad to witness. I feel even worse that the women outright refused to press charges, but again, we don't have the entire story here. Abuse is abuse, though.

As for security: yeah, this is not a good look for them. Period.

HHN is a totally different beast and there are probably at least 50 Dressed Officers working any given night, and they also make it a point to be seen when something is happening.

I'd think they could charge them with Disturbing the Peace if nothing else.

I don't know, I think since its on private property Disney would be the ones that officially have to file any charges if those involved did not... but I'm not a lawyer but I'm sure at least one person round here knows the correct answers.

I know a lot of stuff can be charged if an officer witnesses it regardless if someone is pressing charges. I don't know if seeing a video is the same as witnessing it live. That being said, I'm sure Disney is going to do everything in their power to make sure they never set foot on their property again.

I'm pretty sure they can charge them with child endangerment and maybe child abuse because the child was present, and at risk of being hurt as they fought around him with no regard to his safety

Yup. If this is what they’re prepared to do in public, it’s going to be worse in private. That home is no place for a child.

Shame on those disgusting people for acting like that, especially in a theme park full of children. Those poor kids should be taken away from them. The little girl in the stroller was thrown to the side and the little boy was watching that behavior.

Shame on Disney as well for not reacting fast enough. This is embarrassing and a bad look for the company.

People seem to think Disney should have done more or been quicker to react, but this is about what their normal response is. Security generally has a hands off policy to these type of things, they just keep the regular guests out of the way while they wait for police to show up they’re not supposed to get physically involved. I’ve known CM’s who’ve gotten reprimanded and even lost their jobs due to trying to help break up a fight.

First, children were in danger.
Second, it took way way to long for Disney police to show up. Unacceptable.

I place the blame on the people fighting. You don’t act like that, much less at a family oriented place with children around. Then you wonder why kids are violent. They learn it from their parents.
