Is the reaction to recent attendance drops starting/ The Orange Couty Register reported that Disney cut sales staff this week in the Global Sales & Marketing Department.

Dug up a link to the article. Not much more to it that what you posted, but the OCR did think it worthy of mentioning. See a decrease in global traffic? Cut your Global Sales staff. Disney logic.

It's a strange one. Universal on the other hand throw money at their problems and its working well.

I think the attendance numbers show who has the better strategy.

Does anybody know what the attendance has been like at Disneyland Paris? Given the horrific things that have happened in France over the last year; the Charlie Hebdo shooting, the shootings in Paris, the events last night in Nice plus the Euros being on this summer which could have driven up the prices of flights.

I've heard that lots of people have held off on going this year, but more for the reason that there are so many attractions being refurbed until spring 2017. The list of these is quite extensive.
We booked a trip to Disneyland Paris about 3 months ago for Dec 2016, before Brexitpalooza, and that currency rate is just so depressing right now. The fact that we're also getting rinsed on currency for our Florida trip this year before then too, is really going to make us have to take a cold hard look at our travel plans for next year, as I'm sure many others will too.

Wow, that is a bit less than desirable.

Honestly, I think attendance decreases might be a new norm for the next couple years. Disney has already proven that they care more about the bottom-line numbers than the attendance numbers. So, as long as they keep raising prices, they can compensate for lower attendance. Universal is spending as much money as they can do do both - raise prices + raise crowds. At some point, that strategy might stop working if prices get high enough.

Customers you drive away because of higher prices aren't going to come back as long as the prices are higher. Remaining customers will have to make up that shortfall. The remaining customers will have to pay much more for no more than they were getting before.

Can't remember ever hearing about a theme park that wanted less customers. It will be interesting to see how this all works out.

Very telling....Plus the Mice Age article on Universal Hollywood said it's been busy and Forbidden Journey Journey has generally been at 90 minutes for the past few weeks.

Why would Disney be doing so much construction in its US parks if it wanted less people coming into those parks?

Disneyhead stated years back that Disney Company was disgusted by how much it cost to run WDW and how they were unable to wring squeeze crush more money out of it. It was the millionaires wanting more more more. They weren't happy with what Comcast is totally satisfied with. It's interesting business dealings. It appears that it all caught up with the Disney Co.

Walt Disney World is more of a city than a resort. It's expensive to run a city.
