I've been hearing that cast member previews for Big Thunder are March 7-11th (Think the Slurpee dates). It should be open by the end of this month at the latest.

I hear that cast members will be able to invite a person to go along with them. Now's the time to start sucking up to those cast members you may know in your life! =D

Thanks Allen, I like the addition of the Frozen dark ride, is that currently being "rumored?" I imagine that movie will have to show up as an attraction sooner or later, especially with the Oscar wins!

Iger is very interested in bringing a Frozen ride to the parks, the current "rumor" going around is that this would be a way to finally bring the LPS "trackless" technology to the west coast, which would be an absolute win as the only trackless ride in the states is the woefully executed Antarctica attraction in Sea World Orlando. It's extremely expensive, but the massive earnings of Frozen could finally be the thing that warrants the price.

First off, yes its been rumored, particularly for epcot suprisingly but yea i think that cali might get the first of USA true trackless dark rides.

Funny thing is i heard it a few days ago and yea i agree on frozen having the trackless tech as now they kinda realize they have something big on they're hands, my hope if they do one is have a original story of Frozen, mabye a sequel ride. but i have a crazy ride idea that could come due to the trackless concept. It has more ability to tilt, spin and go wild with riders making it feel something like transformers as there hasn't been a true "thrilling" dark ride since and this is for me, TOT.

Disney really needs to bring the trackless LPS dark ride system to the states (Preferably to the West Coast, of course.  :) ). I'm not a big fan of Frozen, but that would be a fantastic ride. I can't help but think that, as much money Frozen is earning for Disney, do you think it would be big enough for Disney to put the Marvel stuff supposedly planned for Tomorrowland on hold?

Also Brover, Antarctica technically isn't the only "trackless" dark ride in the US. There's technically Ghostwood Estate in Kennywood, but it is pretty "eh". But yeah, Antarctica is technically the only *major* trackless dark ride.

True, there are a few ETF "Mystic Mover" attractions around the states that are rather rudimentary (ETF uses an embedded wire in most of their trackless rides... it's kind of a cheat), but I'm talking about Disney's own specific tech which use sensors and has only been used overseas.

Thanks to a connection with a fellow cast member, I was able to get a ride on Big Thunder Mountain last night. It was GREAT! The ride feels so much smoother now with the new track in place. The whole refurbishment was essentially a touch-up so aside from some lighting enhancements and a few new animatronics, there weren't any real major updates until the final lift hill. The Earthquake scene has been removed entirely and has been replaced with a WAY more awesome dynamite scene (Spoiler ahead) The digital mapping and "fog blast" effects made it look incredible. (End spoiler). That final scene definitely made the ride look amazing. Overall, I really enjoyed the refurbed Big Thunder and you definitely will too! I'm looking forward to getting to hear your reactions when you see the explosion scene. :)

I'm always impressed at the fact that Disneyland manages to reinvent older attractions with new effects.

Projection mapping is always cool to see and I can't wait to experience this in person.

Good luck with that. For CM previews they require the Cast ID and tickets that the member has bought ahead of time. There might be a cast member who may have plenty of tickets and say "Hey, wanna ride?" But I don't think it's likely...unless a CM may have broken up with his significant other after getting the tix and has another to spare. :)

Yeah, you're gonna have to be pretty good at convincing them. Only because if you think about it, if they're gonna let EVERYONE without an annual pass on the ride 'cuz they were good at begging and what not, I'd imagine they'd get in trouble and/or it would make the AP preview pointless.

I'm going to be vague for the sake of spoilers, but the new scene didn't have all of the effects working in the POV. They already fixed it since it was fully working when I rode it, but when you see it live....oh man, you'll love it. :)

SPOILERS :yeah with the final scene i noticed that a few things were missing only because i read that  the scene contained heavy fog effects (correct me if im wrong) and a few other things.  as for the me riding .it looks like i wont be able but still ill try ,it does sound like they will be strict :(

i found a video with the "proper effects " in the finally im not sure if there's more  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V560MYU7AJc

It is a bit loud, but you could hear the rumble all the way from the Frontierland entrance.
