I find little excitement to be warranted for this project with due regard towards the mediocre sequel that was the last film.

I bet that's not true. That was from an old draft written a decade ago. I wish Weaver would keep her mouth shut instead of spreading false info.

Do you feel any different about what Ivan said about it though? I mean personally I like to think that it gives me a little more faith into the integrity of the project. Even though sadly nothing is sacred or safe anymore.

Oh yeah, definitely. The fact that he's taking control of it like this makes me feel a lot better, rather than him letting it fall to chance.

Ghostbusters 3 in 3D?
So it’s really starting to look like Ghostbusters 3 is a go, but we’re living in a post-Avatar world which means just about anyone making a big summer tentpole like this is bound to be looking for ways to take things up a notch. For Ghostbusters 3, that may mean 3D.

Marketsaw claims that director Ivan Reitman is planning to push the Ghostbusters into three dimensions by shooting his movie in stereoscopic 3D. Stereoscopy is a process used to record an image giving it the illusion of depth. If true, that should put it on par with most of the great 3D we’re getting used to, you’ll be able to throw on your Real D glasses and watch Slimer float over the audience.

Not sure if I would like this move or not.

It doesn't make it any worse than all the other movies that are jumping on board this fad.

It can't hurt at this point. Every thing is going 3D so why the hell not? I want to see Slimer and the streams in 3D.

I would love to see GB3 in 3D. It'd be cool seeing Slimer, like most people said already.

From Comingsoon.net:
Vulture is reporting that Sony's Columbia Pictures is looking to make Ghostbusters 3 without the first two films' writer-producer, Ivan Reitman. The site says:

The studio's strategy is to revitalize the franchise for next year by having the original 'busters train a dramatically younger crew in Ghostbusters III, while a correspondingly younger director handles things behind the camera. However, Reitman's old contract — made at the height of his and Ovitz's powers — still gives him exceptional creative control over the series, including director approval.

The site adds that, along with Reitman, original stars Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis have deals in which they can single-handedly veto and kill the project if they don't like something. The studio would like to have the actors on board, however.

A second draft of the script by "The Office" writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will be turned in in May.

According to Vulture, Columbia had hoped that Reitman's new project would conflict with Ghostbusters 3, but Reitman thinks he can do both.

I would not count on anything for that park right now. Last I saw it was still a wasteland of sand. All this time later and still not much going on.

You guys do realize that they have been talking about making GB3 for the last 11 years right?I've head all of this before.

Anyone that knows me on here knows that I am a HUGE GB fan, hell look at my screen name. But the fact is,I'm not holding my breath on a GB3 until I see pics from the sets and a trailer on TV/online/at the movies.

They're not making the movie without Reitman's blessing at the very least. And he's not going to just go away. He shouldn't either.

Here's an excerpt from a recent interview with Bill Murray, where he talks about Ghostbusters 3 (or rather, the unlikeliness of it.......)

Here's the full interview, if interested.

You know, my younger brother will absolutely murder me if I don't ask you this question.…

All right. I should worry.

Is the third Ghostbusters movie happening? What's the story with that?

It's all a bunch of crock. It's a crock. There was a story—and I gotta be careful here, I don't want to hurt someone's feelings. When I hurt someone's feelings, I really want to hurt them. [laughs] Harold Ramis said, Oh, I've got these guys, they write on The Office, and they're really funny. They're going to write the next Ghostbusters. And they had just written this movie that he had directed.

Year One.

Year One. Well, I never went to see Year One, but people who did, including other Ghostbusters, said it was one of the worst things they had ever seen in their lives. So that dream just vaporized. That was gone. But it's the studio that really wants this thing. It's a franchise. It's a franchise, and they made a whole lot of money on Ghostbusters.

Oh, sure, I remember. The soundtrack. The lunchboxes. The action figures.

Right. And it's still one of the biggest movies of all time. And ever since that story broke, everywhere I go people are like, "So are you gonna make that movie?" I was down in Austin at South by Southwest, and you go at it hard down there—fun but, man, you need to sleep for days afterwards. Anyhow, I got into it one night with a bunch of younger people who were like, Oh, I love Peter Venkman! I grew up with Peter Venkman! We got to talking, and the more we talked about it, the more I thought, Oh Christ, I should just do this thing.

A generation awaits, for sure. You weren't even supposed to play that role, right?

Yeah. Originally it was Belushi. Like a lot of my movies. [beat] God, John died, what was it, twenty-five years ago?

It was '82, right?

Yeah, I think it was '82. I dunno. That part of life is getting fuzzy.

I read that you wanted to play a ghost in the movie. That's kind of brilliant.

Well, I hadn't wanted to do the movie. They kept asking, and I kept saying no. So once upon a time I said, just joking: "If you kill me off in the first reel, then fine, I'll do it." And then supposedly they came up with an idea where they kill me off and I was a ghost in the movie. Kinda clever, really.

But has the Zombieland cameo stolen that gag?

[genuinely confused] But that was a zombie. Not a ghost.

Ivan Reitman gives an update. Closer, and closer...

ComingSoon.net: So, you know we have to ask you what's going on with "Ghostbusters 3," right?
Ivan Reitman:
[laughs] We have a really good script, but Bill (Murray) has to read it. He hasn't read it. There has been all kinds of chatter online about him reading it and not liking it. He has not read a thing. He's never read anything. And I just sent it to him. So we'll see. God knows how long that will take. But we'll see.

CS: There have been a ton of stories online. Lots of back and forth...
Reitman:
There is almost nothing that is accurate online about that film. Will you write that for me?

CS: I will!
Reitman:
There is nothing... I mean, all these stories... there has been a ton of stuff about casting, about who's in... none of it is true.

CS: The whole Sigourney Weaver thing about her son taking over and Bill Murray coming back as a ghost...
Reitman:
Oh, no, yeah... I mean, Sigourney Weaver has a role in this movie. All the original characters have parts. As well as a whole bunch of new characters... it's got a really good story, this one. Maybe the best of the whole series. I hope we get to do it.

Glad they are taking the time with the script. Ghostbusters is good and remembered for it is a well remembered movie. Sci fi was just the backdrop.

Ghostbusters is my absolute favorite movie all time and one of the few properties that can truly get my geekiness going these days.

So for God's sake, PLEASE don't let there be a third one.
