More news... nothing staspled, but there is a company and writers on it at least? We'll see. I need Murray in this to really be on board. :thumbs:

Los Angeles (E! Online) - No need to believe in UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full trance mediums, the Loch Ness monster and the theory of Atlantis.

Just believe that the allure of nostalgia and a monster paycheck is strong enough to get Bill Murray to strap on that positron collider again.

Variety reports that Columbia Pictures is gearing up to bring another Ghostbusters film to the big screen, ideally featuring all four main characters from the 1984 blockbuster and its 1989 sequel—Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.

Both '80s-era films were cowritten by Aykroyd and Ramis and directed by Ivan Reitman.

Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, both executive producers on The Office, have been tapped to pen the new installment—after which, Columbia will approach its would-be leading men.

Eisenberg and Stupnitsky recently collaborated on the Ramis-directed comedy Year One. Despite a handful of small parts over the years in comedies such as Knocked Up and As Good as It Gets, Ramis—who also helmed three episodes of The Office last year—has had more of a career behind the camera since his Egon Spengler days.

While the project remains officially unconfirmed, the general consensus is that getting Murray to suit up after all these years will be the hard part—although the Oscar-nominated thesp deigned to contribute his Dr. Peter Venkman voice for the new Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

After helping to keep the dream alive for the past two decades, Aykroyd told a radio station last year that the idea of another Ghostbusters sequel was still alive and kicking. But...

"It will not happen as a live-action [movie], 'cause Billy [Murray] will not come on, in the live-action stage anymore for it," the veteran character actor said. "But he will voice his part, and we are looking to do it as a CGI animated project."

But who knows what will happen if the script stacks up?

Ghostbusters II didn't exactly recapture the magic of the original, which grossed $229.2 million (at '80s prices) at the box office, but it still brought in $112.5 million and millions more from home video sales.

Besides, even the lamest sequels are usually good for lines like, "Only a Carpathian would come back to life now and choose New York!"

Live action would fantasic, animated would be less exciting. Any animated sequels for me HAVE SUCKED! There are only those few occasions where I am satisfied ( Toy Story 2 and Shrek 2 for example.). We need new ideas now. I am sick of sequels and remakes, we need new stuff. Sure I love sequels but come on.

"yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my [Year One] writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing [Year One] and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity.
 
yeah I saw 2 months ago that they are going to mentor new busters to take over the company in the movie.

I thought I heard that Ramis and Reitman were writing it.
Apatow is funny and all but I wish it would stay true to the original writers and not turn into a curse fest like alot of Apatow's movies.
And we know who will be in it as the new guys, somewhere along the lines of Rogen, Carrell & Jonah Hill. Eh.
I want the classic guys with a bit of play on them being a lot older but still doing it.
To me Murray has the best sense of dry comedy delivery of like any actor.
I dont wanna see them only be in it for like 20 minutes and that's it. :(

February 23, 2009 - Dan Aykroyd has given fans a brief but revealing update on what's happening with Ghostbusters 3.

Aykroyd was asked about GB3 during a web chat with readers of The Boston Globe, and he replied, "Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009."

Columbia Pictures has tapped the Emmy-nominated writing team of Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (co-executive producers of The Office) to pen the screenplay.

Original GBs Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson are not signed for the sequel but are reportedly willing to reprise their roles if the script is right.

Same here I've heard this over and over again and untill its on the main Hollywood web site for up coming movies I wont be getting all worked up.
 
Just another example of Hollywood milking old ideas for new money. I loved the first two but to think of a third would be a little much, I thought the forth Indy movie was good but not near the caliper of the first 3.
