Honestly, I'd rather have an unthemed box if the only other choice is that ugly, overly-busy nonsense from Mission: Breakout.

A giant, plain, industrial box would fit Epcot better, as awful as that is to say.

I totally get complaints on this decision, but to me, at least they are planning on theming the building.

Whether it fits or not in Epcot is another discussion, but at least it won’t just be a big unthemed box.

I like the skin on the front of the building, why can't they just continue that clean metal look all the way?

Mission Breakout looks pretty good in person imo. Will they make it work to fit Epcot? I have major doubts. But if they left it unthemed everyone would’ve been complaining that they cheated out.

Can’t have it both ways.

I think @Marni1971 had mentioned on MAGIC that there was a design that was a little less in your face than the Mission Breakout facade.

Honestly, even that building would look a lot better if the base color were silver instead of brown.

I’m not saying it does. However I’m willing to wait to at least see some official concepts and final product before making declarative statements.

I think the issue with the M:B facade is that it looks perfectly acceptable ON ITS OWN given the GotG aesthetics.

However considering Epcot is a fairly open park and this building isn’t going to be hidden from the rest of the park, I get hate towards this potential move.

Maybe they should just paint a big picture of Chris Pratt's head on the building.

The front of the old UoE building...They are redoing it to look very sleak, simple grey matalic look...I wouldn't mind that transferring up to the taller structure

Disney doesn't give two flying F's about sight-lines anymore.

The days of "all new original" attractions without an IP behind it are OVER. You could say "Epcot" is changing!!!

However, the truth is, the entire game has changed. Harry Potter made sure of that.

So next time you are drinking "butter beer" and thinking of what new Potter merch you want to purchase, think to yourself. "I'm actually part of the problem."

Disney has been using IP in the parks since Disneyland opened. The difference is the IP used to match the theme. Now its like putting Davy Crockett in Tomorrowland.

They may have for some of fantasyland attractions, but the original rides were mostly original IPs.

It's been that way for a few years now. It just hasn't hit the east coast as hard as it hit the west coast initially. I think we'll be losing Splash Mountain at the same time on both coasts. (NOT A RUMOR, just a suspicion)

Splash Mountain is safe, it's a classic and great attraction that to this day is a lot of people's favorite.

I'm fine with an IP filled Epcot, I'd rather have a character filled Epcot than a corporation filled Epcot. B

I don’t really see what a lot of the issues are with it happening. Most of the IPs going into world show case are at least relevant to the countries.

Guardians is obviously the big stretch here.

As long as they keep Food and Wine and add more rides, it’s a win for me.

Because people want to stay stuck in the 80's forever. Epcot's "heyday" was probably 1989 - Wonders of Life had just opened, Norway pavilion opened, The Seas opened in '86, Kitchen Kabaret was around, they hadn't given up on Horizons yet, I assume this is the time period when Peter Quill visited, etc.

1989 was only 7 years into the park's life however. The park VERY QUICKLY started to go down hill in the 90's and by the end of the decade, the EPCOT Center concept was pretty much gone and the park was in rough shape. To this day it still is in rough shape and has had very minimal changes to the park since the Millennium Celebration. Mission Space opened in 2003 (was already announced in 1999), Test Track has simply been given an overlay, Soarin' replaced KK/FR, Nemo took over the Seas, Imagination got worse, SSE had a narration change and unfinished finale, Cablleros took over El Rio and Frozen took over Maelstrom.

Notice all of that was either updates or replacements. Nothing has actually been ADDED to the park in that time. Actually, the park has lost attraction capacity as Wonders of Life is sitting unused to guests. Innoventions has closed as well. The Magic Eye Theater is all but closed right now too with them showing Pixar Shorts in there. Ratatouille will be the first park expansion since the Summer of 1989. It's also a thematically appropriate one.

IPs are not a bad thing, it's just about placement. GotG is an example of bad placement as it feels like it would've fit better in Tomorrowland and Tron fit better in Future World. It does suck that the showbuilding will be so large and seen from so much of the park. It's incredibly poor design imo.
