Halloween Horror Nights 21: Your Luck Has Run Out

Ahhh I love to read about people who love the Halloween season..Sadly most of them only go to one Halloween event sad part of living in Central Florida.. Well I am excited to see what happens I am more interested to see if BIll and Ted can rebound from a horrible year last year. I am excited to see the camera work in acid assault. Also with this being my 14th year going I have seen some terrible houses and scare zones done at HHN. I am very excited to do my behind the screams tour and get all of those crazy photos.
But no matter what I am going to the event with a number of people I enjoy hanging out with (even Octobers Fade,,lol) and that to me makes the whole event no matter what else the event holds.

^Awww a touching moment in a sea of excitement

Sorry couldn't help it dude

Yea the company we keep especially at the event can make or break it

Hey guys. Merchandise wise, the only thing I actually care about getting (and I REALLY want to get it) is one of the HHN 21 hats. However, I heard someone say that they haven't put them out yet. Is that a sign they won't be sold tonight at the event, or is it more like that they will start showing up tonight? I really want one.

They don't sell the merch until the event starts, so it should all be out tonight.

I'm just interested in my usual shot glass, and a deck of cards since they are selling them suppossedly.

I know that they don't sell it until the event starts, but it's usually all out in the gift shop ahead of time, and everything else is out for sale in the gift shop except for the hats. Sort of worries me, but do you assume they will have them tonight?

The express pass for Saturday is so expensive, I don't even think it's worth it since you can only do the attractions once. $89.99 + admission !. Even if I was rich, I wouldn't want to pay for it. I know they have to have it like that, but its crazy.

It's $59.99 for tomorrows event. The only dates where it's $89.99 is on October 15th and the 22nd. They're obviously expecting those two nights to bring in the larger crowds.

Yeah you would either that or you would take the tour, I mean come on your rich!

Are you ready for the hordes of mutants, monsters and maniacs roaming our darkened studio streets?
They’re ready…. For you.

I'm so ready!! I can't wait till next Friday!! ♠

I've been watching some of the videos Inside the Magic is posting of the scare zones, and I have to admit...they don't seem very scary to me. Some of the costumes/masks seemed surprisingly low-budget. Like the one worn in the video below. Are these scare zones better than they look in some of photos/videos?

I agree on the Lady luck masks, even though I've just seen videos and pictures. I think they should give the monster Lady Lucks face prosthetics and black goop like in the promos, not a stiff, shiny, very fake looking mask.. Come on, it's the icon...

Lady Luck was the only mask that I found ridiculous in person. Lady Luck in general was a giant disappointment.

While Lady Luck does look terrible, you have to remember, most of those costumes and masks aren't meant to be filmed/seen with camera lighting in their face. They're designed to be effective in low lighting, so they aren't always going to translate well onto a video.

I wish the costume was better, I don't mind that Lady Luck isn't a strong icon. I like that the theme of luck runs through the backstories of houses.

As cool as some of the icons are, I feel like they over relied on them, and kinda handcuffed themselves to the icon concept.

I guess you have a point, but I can't imagine that mask being scary/looking even borderline realistic in any lighting/situation. My local haunted houses have better costumes than that. I was expecting Universal to really go all out, but I'm actually not that impressed by what I'm seeing thus far. Still, it IS one thing to look at it online, and another thing to experience it.

Even in person with the appropriate lighting, the mask looks ridiculous.

As for her as an icon in general, to each their own I guess. The luck theme is alright, but nothing about her is scary or even the least bit intimidating, which is disappointing to me.

Oh I know. My post was mostly directed at AcidPop who said some more of the costumes didn't look great.

Yea, she's not great, but I don't mind her not being a huge focus of the overall event like some previous Icons. She's in her scarezone, and that's fine with me.

I actually really like icons and having a central theme to each event. I am pretty disappointed with Lady Luck and the fact that she is not very present in the event. With Fear, sure, you can argue that his presence is felt, event even though he wasn't there much physically, because everything has to do with fear and horror. But with Lady Luck, her presence in the event is VERY subtle. Even seeing the commercial on TV just now I feel so deceived that I'm gonna get this event with a casino vibe/theme and that couldn't be farther from the truth... Hell, I'd get more casino if I went to HoS! I know there are ways that bad luck/ bad choices play a part in the story lines of the houses and zones, but I would have liked to see more with the gambling, casino, luck theme. So much could have been done with it... I know I'll have a blast at the event and Universal never disappoints in creativity and quality, but I think the casino/gambling theme is a missed opportunity.

I like having a much more subtle, personification sort of icon. Lady Luck is literally the personification of Luck. Point being, this route I think, works very well, they did something similar in 2008 and it worked well then too. Where there were those wink and nods to Blood Mary throughout the event but she wasn't visually assaulting you constantly at the event.

Once more, we take some of the focus off the icon and we get stronger houses. I'm not saying the two are directly tied together but I am saying that taking some of the focus off the icon hasn't hurt the event.

Bloody Mary was actually scary though. Lady Luck is just too subtle and weak, in my opinion. I understand how some people appreciate the approach, but I'm not a big fan of it. I don't mind the icon being taken out of the houses, but the scarezone is pretty weak for an icon's zone and we've already discussed the mask.

Either way, she's one of my only complaints about this year's event because I loved this year.

Something else I forgot to mention, the ops were almost unnoticeable this year and I loved it. I don't think I saw one flashlight on opening night and it really helped the environment.

P.R Video has dropped. For those of you who cant make it, this is what you're missing.
