for example The Walking Dead is an IP. As Is Silent Hill.
Alice Cooper and Penn & Teller are IPs to a lesser extent.
People are unhappy about those because they strip HHN from some originality. Like TWD maze is going to be based on TWD so really Uni didn't create it.
This year I think SH and TWD are the only true houses that deny Universal creativity, but everyone freaks out about the 4 (more than half) IP houses!!!!
I base what lacks originality by people going into the house with expectations of what to see, something they recognize. SH has pyramid head that everyone expects to see, TWD has the Well Zombie and other scenes from the show. People (fans) of the Property will expect to see things a certain way...limiting the input UNI has on costuming/sets and whatnot.
Alice I dont think is a truly restricting IP. It is understandably getting some flack as it is a re-hash of the house in Hollywood last year. I still think the house is original as it is mostly based on Music and his stage act. People might go in with some expectations...but they probably don't have a mental picture of what exactly the sets/costumes will look like. Giving Uni creativity. I do understand the unhappiness with this house as a repeated house, but I bet most attendees won't even know it was used at Hollywood last year.
As far as I can tell Penn & Teller is essentially an original maze. Created by Universal Creative, they made a premise, costumes, sets...they just wanted a Vegas Act to be a part of the fun. I'm sure P&T had some input, I'm sure they'll appear in the maze to some degree...but this maze looks to be original.
All 4 are technically IP houses. Only 3 mazes are truly unoriginal. 2 because they are designed to look like something specific, 1 because it is an import from another park.
were people annoyed with Poe last year? It is technically an IP
