So, I FINALLY got the answer to what happened here, from the inside. It was an after hours troubleshooting test by maint. techs in which an illegal trick was used to override an important sensor. It was a mechanical trick to fool the system computer.

The screen was hit by an rv and the kuka system and screen were damaged, but I was told that residual damage was minimal.

I suppose that the closure was used to thoroughly check the track alignment and footings... everything. It would appear they had other scheduled refurbs that they fast tracked into getting done during the shutdown.

One or two of the techs were fired.

So, after much ado, there you have it.

WTF were they thinking?

Idiots.

Teebin thank you for finally finding out the mystery of what happened. Can't believe these people would be dumb enough to do whatever it is that they did. Reprogramming Imotep to do Wyld Stallion poses would be one thing, seeing if you can crash an RV through a screen is a whole other level.

What the hell would they do that for... Seriously what are the benefits of doing that for them?

I get the impression that they either thought they could stop the car or that the ride system wouldn't let the car continue past some certain point. Obviously, they assumed they knew how every bit of it worked, when they really did not.

I don't always goof off at work, but when I do... I make sure it is with my boss's multi-million dollar finale.

Their "experimenting" ruined things for the rest of us. Hope to see out fixed soon. Such a cool effect.

Of which I was one and in the end, we were correct. It is impossible during guest operation.

Very few if any of us have a complete knowledge of what goes on in the wee hours of the morning. The good news is that it all makes sense now.

Well, I was referring to someone else, but since you chimed in, your post here: http://www.orlandounited.com/forums...the-Escape-from-Gringotts?p=398042#post398042 has no references to guest operation. You are actually quite adamant that it didn't happen. The experts here scoffed at the OI report, but the OI report was correct. The circumstances are irrelevant. The car hit the screen.

Right, and they were correct, but unlike OI, I finally explained in detail why and what the consequences were. I am one of those odd ducks that will not always believe the "what" until I know the "why" and "when".

Circumstances are irrelevant? How many members here would find it relevant whether or not there were passengers on board or if it was a normal system controlled run?

I would hope that you agree that the why and when are deeply fascinating and informative in this case.

BTW, Beyonce has retired from singing and film... also... 478 people were found dead at the Department of Defense (DOD) today.

But tomorrow, Austin and it's liberal roots! A discussion.

I'm no expert nor have I spoken of OI, but I was chiming in on the discussion when the ride re-opened. Heck, when I rode it, I was in the last row. I was so impressed w/ the 'dome' room as I think it was the 1st time I had ridden where the movement of the vehicle in that room made sense, when the vehicle turned to exit, I noticed that I didn't see the screen pull away for the 1st time (I maybe average two rides a quarter since Diagon opened) and I assumed the fog stayed long enough for the screen to move without me noticing.

Anyway, when I had read talk about a car hitting the screen...my mind concluded that there is no way they would have had the ride open in three days if a car had hit the screen. I just did not think anyone meant that someone purposely overrode a system that enabled a ride vehicle to come in contact with the screen or the arm...in other words to me, an unknown malfunction did not happen, for if it had, there is no way they would have guest on it so soon afterwords.

So I am happy that the missing piece of the story was shared here, but I do not think it takes an expert to know some fact was missing if the only info giving was that a cart crashed into the screen.

Ehhh what you gonna do

I can't be right all the time and OI like others has proved that several times over as well.

So, thinking about it, is it possible that kukas are built with a clutch type system, like a clutch screwdriver? So that it might immediately release (spin loose) on a certain pounds resistance?

It might be a pointless conversation other than such a feature would be a big safety element. That it would not oppose a high impact. This would explain why the RV won out with little resistance and damage.

That said, if it had such a system, the Kuka wasn't quite ready for that hard and fast a resistance.

It could also come down to the stall torques of the motors on the kuka arm. It is only expected to hold that screen and move it between two positions. Screen is on the order of a hundred pounds or so. The kuka is gunna give way regardless with something on the order of 10,000 pounds accelerating through it unless they really over engineered the arm. I would be more worried of the impact tearing through the screen and frame and the frame impaling a person. Depending on how the frame holding the screen is set up.

"Rumor" has it that a night shift maint. technician tried an illegal time saving troubleshooting test on Spiderman around the same time. The next morning they found him enclosed in a web cocoon dangling from the ceiling in the warehouse scene with the rats climbing over his body. A note was attached to his shirt. It read "Spidey doesn't play that game"...... Just a rumor though.....LOL

I emailed my above text to a knowledgeable person last night just out of curiosity. I guessed CORRECTLY! The Kuka's do have what they call a "release gear" for when they encounter more resistance than they were manufactured for.

Goodness I love guessing and once in a while getting it right!

I'm nervous about the ride restraints, I've heard they are tight squeeze for some of the bigger riders. Has anyone on the forum had an issues with them? Is there any difference between the front of the cart and the back?

Pirates OBX, the train use a stadium seating system, so the back rows (3 and 6) has more leg room because the seats are higher and the front rows (1 and 4) have the least room. I have not had any problem with the restraint, they also do not have a click system but just close to wherever they stop. I know some people have complained about the restraints and especially about them hurting the intimate parts, but I have not felt that, but then I have reasonably strong thighs protecting my manhood lol.
