Yeah... Didn't quite think that one through. It just appeared as though there was a physical set piece in one of the pictures, much like the dragon head in FJ but with a screen element. But you're likely right - I doubt they could do it in a manor that allowed free-movement from the dragon.

On the other hand, a fire element could be really neat as well. This whole project has so many little nooks and cranny's that we're unaware of and I love it. All these things we're still not sure about, lots of surprises coming for opening day.. It's just great!

Disney doesn't seem to have a problem with building quality attractions in a timely manner in countries outside the U.S. I would like to have seen Mystic Manor at lets say.....Animal Kingdom. Oh well.......back to Potter.

Very good point. The Ratatouille ride in Paris looks very high quality. Why don't they clone these attractions for the US market? At least Universal is smart to clone their WWoHP to several locations.

There's a rumor that it might go into Epcot actually, but rumors are made all the time.

So was it right to assume that the body will be on a screen by the head will be an animatronic element?
That would be a very cool utilization of both elements - like the dragon in FJ but better... Thanks for the update! And there's no need to apologize - we all make assumptions, sometimes they're right, sometimes they're wrong...

I still think this is a good possibility. As for the head having limited movement, it may work to their advantage that the dragon's neck is still in shackles at that point, as you can see in the released image.

Also, if all of the surrounding scenery is screen based, then they could theoretically make it appear that a stationary dragon head is moving by moving the whole environment around it. Add to that the motion of the RV, and I think it would be nearly impossible to tell that the head wasn't moving.

I've been warned that we will hear lots of rumors regarding the future of WDW over the coming months to combat the Potter steam. I'm not falling for anything until they either announce it or dirt starts moving.

When I'm on vacation, I don't want to stick a room key in a hotel door. Now, I don't have to. Thanks Disney.

How about the AA head attached to a screen, that is attached to a Kuka arm? That way the head could move and the screen would move with it. Might be tricky making the moving screen blend into the background environment, but doable I would think.

I think by that point with something that complicated they might just wish they'd built the whole thing as an animatronic!

Or maybe, the entire dragon is projected, but "fire" comes through the screen?

That comment reminded me of this patent. Anyone know if this will be utilized in Gringotts? I could easily see this being used in conjunction with a character casting a spell to block the dragon's fire.

I thought someone confirmed that there was no real fire on the ride?

I just got an email from Universal with basic info about DA. The only thing that may be new is a possible image of the dragon blowing fire (all CG) on the ride. Did anyone else get this email? Unless it's a still from the movie...here's the link: http://content.email.universalorlando.com/frontend/dynamicAssets?e=t43CB03198F21F6E377B355576C76EB455E71B46EA2DFCCA76AF98F2F264EF6796DAECC42B7FF02A2B85BAE29F2A04CF4F5DA4C8ED83165025A3860CE071CAAF6B0C6F1CB89FAD85F15787239AEF377F24D536112D0BB094ED0316C77128A56F32BBA5C69FDD00F0A39C5BE2DA0F0413029A9B684C06E6DE696B02572328EC65D4D1B3D7116CDC2314784B02EB47EB649615727E558845922BF1B5B1916B0B755C42B370DD90C12CF400D2668AC8E12724ADEA7E888AF3EF5DA087CC57C7087C57CA873B77DE90F3E

Two things I'm curious about with this ride. First: how will the transitions from scene to scene be like? Will they include banked turns, or something similar to how Spider Man and Transformers do their transitions, or something completely different? Second: will the ride have a complete musical soundtrack? The footage we've seen from the first scene has the music from the movie in there. That leads me to conclude that there will be.

1. I see the transitions being very dark and performing coaster maneuvers, or maybe just 3d screens around us like the scene transitions in Forbidden Journey.
2. As for the music, I picture scores from the Harry Potter trilogy being gently played in the background, also like Forbidden Journey.

The music from Deathly Hallows Part 2 in Gringotts scenes and Dragon Flight would work perfectly.

I can already confirm that "The Tunnel" from DHP2 is played during the first part of the ride just from that short clip of the ride footage with Belatrix.

Going back to another piece of news from Tuesday which hasn't been discussed much yet...

I was glad to hear the ride time is around 4 minutes. Given the track length (pretty guessable from the layout diagrams floating around), I think it's quite impressive and gives us a good idea of what the average speed will be. I really think, knowing this, that the coaster sections will be very short. I'm happy with that.

in one of the interviews they stressed the word "family". making it seem like this would indeed be a lot tamer then FJ. Which I'm sure is too thrilling for a lot of kids/adults. I'm thinking thrill level of Indy at Disnyland.

I think the ceiling of the loading station looks a bit awkward. Maybe when you're actually there for the ride it won't be lit up so bright and will have better lighting. I just don't get why they did the orange color for the stalactites? They look very unnatural to me, plus they are grouped in small circular chandelier-like sections. It would have been nice if the whole ceiling was raised and covered completely in stalactites, to look more like a cave. Not to be a complainer, because overall everything looks amazing. I'm just wondering why they did it this way. The early concept art looked better. It doesn't look like the load area in the movie.

I'm guessing it will be darker in person and those stalactites have a lighting element to them.

I'm thinking this depends on your definition of "thrill". Indy has a 46" requirement, which is the tallest at Disneyland. While not "fast", it does throw you around A LOT and is pretty intense.
