I thought Dreamworks would have realized better after Home. It is really clear though a lot of studios are trying to get that Happy level radio hit after Despicable Me 2.

Home was a success for them.

So when I saw Civil War they were showing a newer trailer for SLoP, and I noticed something very peculiar in it.

Apparently in SLoP they show a bus which has a big advertisement for SING on it, now it's one thing to do a callback/reference to a studio's previous film. (In the case of Zootopia, do not only that but also playfully spoof upcoming films) But literally showing the poster for a film coming out the same year?

I know buses have advertisements, but that kind of move always feels a bit cheap n' desperate in a film.

There's a bunch of Comcast tie ins in that trailer (Sing, SNL, Jimmy Fallon, etc)

So a buddy of mine who works for the film division of Uni mentioned that this film was the test to see if Illuminations could pull of an animated Wicked film.

Same movies over and over? You do realize that Illumination is putting out SLOP, which is basically Toy Story with pets and Sing has little that separates it from Trolls...

Doesn't bother me one bit, its not like its the same move line by line but with pets instead of the toys. You know how many movies are similar to prior movies this day in age anyways. As a parent, its just nice to add something new to rotation, gets super old watching the same movie over and over but we do it because that is what makes our little ones happy and that is what matters the most.

I still am confused a tad what you mean by watching the "same movie" because if there's anywhere Disney hasn't been slacking lately, it's high-quality animation. Inside Out didn't make $900M or however much it made last year because it was "the same", it did so because it was different and smart. Same for Zootopia.

Good lord.... Why are you fighting him on this?

He's saying he's tired of his video playlist and is looking forward to adding a new movie to it. i.e. Watching Frozen 5960605 times.

Ok, so it was a miscommunication. No need to be rude.

All you said was watch the same movie over and over in the post I quoted. I apparently missed where you said Frozen, but since I did, i'm not going to automatically know what you're talking about.

The full trailer for Sing has come out...and, i'll say this.

It looks better than the inital trailer. Will I see it in theatres? No, but it'd be a rental for sure.

The new trailer makes it seem like what a movie would be if Zootopia held a singing competition, which I think is a much better way of tackling it from a marketing perspective.

If it does well, it'll probably be because it's the only animated release that month. This doesn't look good but they're smart to start marketing it now, while I don't think I've seen a teaser for Trolls nor Moana.

Yeah, Moana hasn't really seen a trailer at all yet (not even as said, teaser). Atleast with Trolls; they had the announcement trailer from a while back, showing animation but Moana is somewhat in the dark.

It depends how well Moana is received. If received well enough, because it's a Disney movie, it could have strong legs that run through the holidays. I agree though, by the time Sing comes out, any momentum from Trolls and Moana will mostly have died off so it should open strong. Whether it holds is another story.

Disney still has Finding Dory to focus on. I wouldn't be surprised to see a teaser come out just before Dory as it could play in front of Finding Dory to it's target audience.

Point is, Disney doesn't normally like to market more than 1 animated movie at a time.

Well the full trailer is slightly better then the teaser, though that's in the "not saying much" catagory for me. Once again, I'm not a fan of most jukebox musicals and this is looking like no exception.

Considering it's release date, I wouldn't be worrying about the momentum of films coming out the previous month. Trolls comes out Nov. 4th, so animated film-wise Moana will probably take the momentum from that. (Though Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them could throw a wrench in things since that comes inbetween those two.)

For Sing I would be worried about the momentum of a film that comes out five days before it....Rogue One. That's a juggernaut IP that get's a wide audience, add in it's looking to be the anticipated film for the end of the year, that's hard to counter.

Well the reason I say momentum is because Disney November releases tend to have long legs.

Also animated films tend to not be disrupted by big live action films, normally because parents are looking to take the kids to see something. Rogue One and Beasts are a tad different than usual though as it's Star Wars and Potter.

good dinosaur proved that Disney films also have to attract the public for long legs in November.
