Isn't there a reformatting/expansion of Kids Zone supposed to be happening? Seems that land would be perfect to make a "knock it out of the park" style kids area for Universal, which is the primary criticism. Maybe an animated area, but not tied to any one company like Dreamworks or Illumination. Just a thought.

My gut feeling is that's not in the works. The parade infrastructure is in the way, some of it built as recently as last year.

Yeah, I don't know that they need that much more land to redo the kids area, they just need to use the space they do have a little better.

As far as we are concerned the plot of land kidzone sits on now wont be expanded if a remodel is in the works. No need. That giant plot of land will be constructed upon regardless of when. Pyro, parade etc...can easily be moved and still be on site. I.e. empty soundstages. There was talk of Uni purchasing more land which could possibly mean more empty space if offices storage etc...were moved off site.

I'm guessing that if Star Trek were to go there it would pretty much just be like Star Tours

I wouldnt count on it. Universal is a lot more creative than that.

Between production, events and creative sound stages don't sit empty for that long. There really isn't that much space left on site that doesn't have a practical purpose. Also if they were really moving in the direction of moving the parade equipment they wouldn't have put up the maintenance area (which has been installed in the last year).

I always though star tours was such a waste... You get the rights to build an attraction based on one of if not the most successful movie franchises of all time and you come up with..... A generic simulator... I hate that ride system too... Hate wild arctic hated the Akbar thing at Busch gardens hated star tours... 2.0 is a big improvement but you can't polish a turd.

I'd love a space mountain type ride with a bit more thrill to it.

Actually Star Tours was the first major theme park simulator so it was a big thing.

Yeah back in the '80's it was equivalent to FJ in terms of innovation. People went wild for it. Even though its been copied it was still a great ride system for higher time. Could it use a better system now? Maybe. But they've done a good job, IMO with keeping it up to date for what it is

have you seen the size of their backlot? I mean youre sounding as if Uni is completely incapable of moving some equipment or coming up with a plan.

AS far as were concerned this isnt being built upon soon but regardless those things can be moved.

If they ever do build something there, they best not get rid of the Coke Alien! That has to be the most nostalgic thing at Uni for me.

I have seen their backlot. And I've seen that they are running out of open space. The last bit of space that really wasn't used much at all was where FJ sits. The space between Ripsaw and River is used as a bone yard (obviously that stuff can easily be moved to a warehouse off site). But there isn't a whole lot of space you can easily move a pyro lock down area. Or two large support structures for the parade (not to mention you'd probably want to keep those buildings near the parade. Some offices can be moved off site, but most of the ones that it's practical for are already off site. Your offices for attractions, entrance ops, security, food, merchandise, events and entertainment really shouldn't be moved off site. Your rehearsal rooms, warm up rooms and costume storage can't really be moved off site. There are huge warehouses off site, but there still needs to be a certain amount of storage onsite for food and merchandise. Tech services needs a lot of space to properly maintain all of those rides, the vehicles, and the buildings.

On the practical end there's a whole lot that goes into the operation of the theme parks that's a lot rougher then roller coaster tycoon's demo and build method.

I'd rather have Universal own the theme park rites to Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

This is sort of off topic but you know what really grinds my gears lol Universal was interested in Marvel when nobody really wanted it and now that The Avengers comes out and makes over a billion dollars Disney all of a sudden were interested and bought Marvel. Universal are the ones to build Marvel themed rides and lands first. I think that's horse crap that they now own Marvel and are all of a sudden wanting to build rides and lands.

Indeed. The movie you are looking for is Spider-man. Universal invested in Marvel before Spider-Man came out and brought forth the comic book movies.

But of course from 89-95ish Batman was everywhere, and worked it's way into six flags parks. So not really a shock that comic book characters are a good fit for both theme parks and movies.

Has it really been three years already?? that's scary. It literally feels like they bought them last year. I still stand by my point though, Universal was interested first and were building stuff in their theme parks first.

Why did it take Disney so long to buy Marvel?? Ive heard from numerous articles and other people that Universal was more interested in making lands and rides themed to Marvel comics.

Would you rather have Universal or Disney own Marvel?..i do think its lame that Disney has to take that away from Universal in the future. They wanted themed rides and lands first.
