This probably has a two-year construction timeline. If they want this open in time for SW, it can be finished in August or September 2019.

Well, I'll be there the last day I guess. Luckily it's a day after blackout dates end.

I'm profoundly saddened by this news. Yeah, the ride didn't age all that well but GD IT, it was a certified classic. MUST visit it before it closes for good.

I want to wait to see how the art style will be done on a grander scale as opposed to just a peak of a mockup build.

are we assuming this is all being done inside the current structure? Is it using the same ride system?

I've heard 8 minute ride length. Much shorter than current ride. Much of ride track space being claimed as backstage area... and maybe a gift shop.

It may be shorter because the ride itself will travel faster.

True.

I'm not sure what ride vehicle will be. Trackless maybe.

Insert "So hot right now" meme for new trackless ride.

Why did Disney spend time replacing the audio and scripts for GMR, what 2 years ago? If TCM paid for that then it must of been a short spondership deal. Seems this was not planned for long at least.

Glad I got a last Great Movie Ride in during my May vacation . I even got to see the Western scene for the first time in a few years. Loved that ride & hate to see it go. But it was getting a little frayed around the edges, so I guess it's time had come.

I will never experience The Great Movie Ride again. It's taking some time for that to sink in.

I missed the GMR last time I was in the park. I think it was the most underrated ride at disney.

Posting it here cuz some might have missed it. It' midtransition screengrab from the effects test.

Long story short, all the "buildings" and "trees" are the same things physically and change shape and rotate and such to transition the scene.

Is anything we're seeing in that test supposed to actually be there, physically?

Hard to explain it - but all the little rectangular "city" bits on the test segments were trees like the one on the front left a split second before. Little tringular sort of cones.

They spun around and in the process changed shape into the rectangles.

You can see it in process going left to right..

A tree.

Tree shaped but with projection transition.

Flat shaped but with transition.

Full flat.

Found a gif!!

That looks interesting, but I can't tell...is that a screen? Or is it real sets changing?

I will never forgive this ride for not being in Animation Courtyard. Totally unnecessary to put this in GMR, as much as the ride was on life support as is. Some of the effects could be fun. But they're really limiting the benefits to DHS with its placement.
