Peacock (Streaming Service)

I will say people do underestimate the binging powerhouse that is The Office a bit

Sure, but Warner Bros. has Friends, Big Bang Theory, Games of Thrones, two WWII miniseries (Band of Brothers and The Pacific), Curb Your Enthusiasm, and others. Not only they have Cartoon Network, but they have a bunch of other classic animated shows we all know and love (e.g., Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera, Animaniacs, Pinky and Brian, etc). They also have adult-animated shows like Rick & Morty, Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Home Movies, etc, which are shown on Adult Swim, not to mention DC Comics shows as well.

Unfortunately, Universal Studios has none of these kinds of IPs they need to sustain a successful streaming service (Fun Fact: they tried to buy Hanna-Barbera in 1991 but got outbid by Ted Turner instead. If they had succeeded, they would have its own successful legacy of children's programming next to Viacom and Disney instead of Warner Bros. by now). Shows like The Office, Parks & Recreation, Brooklyn 99, Mr. Robot (which is its final season), Good Place (also ending this year), SNL, Chicago Fire, Law and Order: SVU, and several others aren't enough to stand on their own against the juggernauts of HBO Max and Disney-owned streaming services (Disney + and Hulu). The best Comcast/NBCU can do is to offer a free version with ad-support.

SO THIS POST WILL COVE R TWO THINGS: Spanish language television and the new pricing tier coming start from CNBC.
___----------------------

For Third Consecutive Year Telemundo Retains Its Lead As The #1 Spanish-Language Network In Weekday Primetime Among Adults 18-49

Having Spanish language content will be the saving grace...the numbers don't lie. With Telemundo being on Peacock, they have demographic that none of the other streaming services has so far which may benefit them greatly. And I'm actually surprised the shows on Telemundo have surpassed even NBC's regular primetime shows.

During 2019, Telemundo continued to rank among the top five broadcast networks alongside NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX, and outperformed the majority of English-language cable networks including TBS, TNT, MTV, and others, among adults 18-49 and adults 18-34 in weekday prime. The network also registered the highest composition of adults 18-34 (19%) out of total viewers among broadcasters.

Telemundo retained its leadership across all platforms in 2019. In keeping with shifting media habits, streaming on the Telemundo app more than tripled this year, while Telemundo ranked as the #1 television network on YouTube, reaching the largest audience over the last four years, above Univision, CBS, and CW. As the Spanish-language network with the highest engagement, Telemundo registered 116M global fans who generated 36M+ monthly average engagements across Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Lastly, for the ninth consecutive year, Telemundo was the most viewed Hispanic network on VOD.

La Reina del Sur – Season two of Telemundo's most successful series in history finished as the top regularly scheduled program on Spanish-language television across all dayparts among adults 18-49 (1.1 million) and adults 18-34 (424,000), while reaching 12.5 million total viewers. During the series' run, Telemundo ranked as the #2 network, regardless of language, in its 10pm timeslot among adults 18-34 behind ABC, and the #3 network regardless of language in its timeslot among adults 18-49 behind NBC and ABC, and beating top cable networks like TNT, ESPN and Adult Swim.

Betty en NY – The first scripted production filmed at Telemundo Center, positioned itself as the #1 regularly scheduled program at 9pm in Spanish-language broadcast television during its run among adults 18-49 (677,000) and adults 18-34 (284,000), while its finale ranked as the #1 primetime drama series in America among adults 18-49 and 18-34.

El Final del Paraíso – Telemundo's "El Final del Paraíso" premiere ranked as the #1 primetime drama series in the U.S. among adults 18-49 and adults 18-34 and was the #1 most social drama series, regardless of language.

Three tiers of service and Live video will make Peacock different.
  • NBCUniversal is looking to differentiate its streaming service Peacock from rivals through its pricing structure and user interface.
  • There will be a free, advertising-supported version of Peacock, a limited-advertising version for about $5 per month and an advertising-free version for about $10 per month, sources say.
  • Comcast subscribers and, eventually, other pay-TV subscribers will get the limited-advertising version included for no extra charge.
When streamers first log on to NBCUniversal’s new streaming service Peacock, they may get something they won’t see on Netflix, Disney+ or HBO Max — live video.

Users will be greeted by streaming content, similar to turning on traditional television, according to people familiar with the matter. The showcased video could be a live offering from NBC News Now, NBC’s free streaming news service that will integrate with Peacock, or an on-demand show, said the people, who asked not to be named because the product is still confidential.

NBC Peacock to offer live content, tiered pricing

How is this possible when Lionsgate just signed a 2020 contract for their content to go to Hulu lol

Not all content will be exclusive...its like how Dreamworks Animation Television signed a contract with Hulu and Netflix at the same time. With Hulu getting original IP series made for families in 2020 and Netflix getting Original series based off Universal properties in the second half of 2020.

I feel Peacock could be extremely successful if they invest in an Indie film company like A24 or something and also have their films. Between having Peele films, Blumhouse, Classic Monster films, and Ari Aster films, Peacock would be the streaming home for all horror film fans.
Also, A24 has very strong lineup when it comes to their film catalog, would diversify their offerings a bit. I think planning to have this be available for young millennials/GenZ viewers will be huge

they already have a deal with Amazon which the fact people didnt realize A24 had a deal with prime shows how low the demand is for their movies. Also just want to point out the most profitable indie film company this year was Neon.

Not only that but A24 films are also on Kanopy. Many libraries have a deal with them where you can watch for free.

You know what I think? NBCUniversal should start investing in adult-animated shows/movies because many other streaming services like Disney-owned Hulu, Netflix, and HBO Max are developing them too which would certainly grab the audiences by the tens of thousands. They need a few more appealing content than just live-action sitcoms like Brooklyn 99 and Superstore.

Funny thing came out today which were both the most watch broadcast programming and most watched cable networks both which proved that theory wrong. Adult animation is popular but its popular within its niche fans. Additionally want to point out USA was the most watched fictional channel whereas NBC was still the most watched network in total viewers. Additionally Bravo was the 2nd most watched channel by those 18-49 which last time i checked does not have any animation whatsoever and is famous for all those Housewives shows.

The most watched programs still remain News and Sports which Peacock will have. Which is why it will do well compared to all the Disney services (you have to buy ESPN to get sports in addition to Hulu and Disney+), and HBO Max which was tainted by CNN which ranked low on the ranking.
Cable Ratings 2019: Fox News Tops Total Viewers, ESPN Wins 18-49 Demo – Deadline
Fox Tops Fall 2019 TV Ratings For First Time In Decade – Deadline

One thing about the internet is people are really vocal and lots of forums skew under 35, cisgendered, straight, male, caucasian, which creates an echo for whats popular when it actually may not be the most popular thing out there.

I fully expect ESPN+ to be woven into Disney+ down the line. Especially if what you’re saying happens. You think Disney won’t act if they find out consumers are choosing a different service over them because of its all in one nature? It’s an endless game that is being played by everyone.

Reason why it isn't happening already because once they include it in their cost, they lose their negotiating power with paytv providers at charging it $6 a subscriber. So Disney+ would have to increase its price or Disney lose the battle against paytv. Its the same reason why HBO Max had to be at least $15 dollars a month otherwise they couldn't charge paytv providers the cost they want for the premium network.

The italicized matters. The bold doesn’t. >95% of the population is “straight and cisgendered”.
For a media conglomerate, who isn’t a human being, that’s the only opinion that matters to them. $$$$$

But we're not talking about news and sports, we're talking about scripted and appealing content in which I happened to talk about adult-animation and most people get their news from websites and sports on TV rather than on a streaming service dedicated to entertainment like Disney + and HBO Max. Peacock currently doesn't have that except the old shows people have seen a million times and wants new content. So stick to the topic. And trust me, you're downplaying the importance of adult-animation, which is still widely popular in the entertainment industry, in no part thanks to Netflix bringing in creators in serving new content that they won't get on broadcast and even cable TV.
