The new JTA sounds awesome. Not a fan of the current one, but I'm sure I would be if I was younger. The Yoda figure sounds like it can be amazing if they figure it out and do it well enough.

I think something like this would be absolutely amazing, especially if, to take a line from John Hammond, they spare no expense.

I had no idea that Star Tours opened in 1989 I thought it was like when the trilogy was rereleased in theaters.

This land sounds really cool, but I don't know if I would want a whole section devoted to a specific movie anywhere in a disney park. IOA is ok, because that's the point of their park, but disney world (they can do what they want in the lands overseas) has always been one attraction per movie (besides toy story, but those are different parks and theming). This new e-ticket and JTA show sound fantastic, but the balance of the parks would tip. We would be so heavy in one area and lacking in others. I want dhs to make new rides more than anything (except maybe animal kingdom but im not even going there) but I would rather expand pixar place or replace indiana jones with an indy ride. I don't want to watch movie lands popping up around the parks. Disney was already crossing a line with adding cuteness to an alien encounter. I'm looking at you stitch.

:sneaky::stitch:

EDIT: woot woot! I'm a webslinger.

Complete side-topic to the possibility of a Star Wars Land: At Star Wars Celebration V last year, I bought an amazing print from a Star Wars artist of an imaginary Disneyland-layout inspired Star Wars theme park --- the print was called the Star Wars Dream Park. One of my favorite possessions now

Some of the attractions:

Death Star Trench Run (inside an Spaceship Earth-esque Death Star replica)
Escape From Hoth (think Matterhorn featuring a Yeti-on-steroids Wampa)
Jabba's Palace Grill
The Hunt for General Grievous
Boonta Eve Pod Race Classic (coaster on Tatooine)
The Gungan Bongo Adventure (underwater)

The "castle" in the center was the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Also featured a perimeter transport (think monorail in place of the MK train) that traveled through diorama's w/ audio animatronics like Yoda on Dagobah.

That's so epic I think my mind just exploded! Sad we will never seen any of those ideas come to fruition though.

Meh. A Star Wars land would be nice, but I'd much rather see Pixar Place expanded. Jedi Training Acadamy replacing Sounds Dangerous sounds cool though, that would be fun.

A Star Wars land would be awesome but in DHS it may not fit because the land still keeps a nice theme of a studio and Hollywood. Going from that to Star Wars would feel odd. Pixar Place works because it looks like the Pixar studio. I think that a Lucas area of the park from Indy to Star Tours could happen, but there isn't much room for expansion to really make that concept work other than the Sounds Dangerous building.

Disney has made passports. From Inside The Magic:

With 54 randomized variations available in the upcoming Star Tours: The Adventures Continue ride at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, intergalactic travelers may need help in keeping track of which Star Wars destinations they’ve visited.

For that purpose, Disney has launched StarToursPassport.com, allowing visitors to upload a photo (or grab one from Facebook) and create their own “Galactic Passport,” which can be printed and taken to the theme parks.

In the park, guests can have their passports stamped upon visiting the new version of Star Tours when it reopens on May 20, 2011 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and on June 3 at Disneyland in California. In addition, checkboxes and blanks allow guests to write down dates on which they visited the ride’s destinations: Hoth, Naboo, Death Star, Tatooine, Coruscant, and Kashyyyk.

Star Tours Galactic Passports can be posted to Facebook as well, via fun animations that include music from the original Star Tours attraction.

From Inside The Magic:

The cover story of the Mickey Monitor Summer 2011 edition features a preview of the upcoming ride update, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue. Inside, Walt Disney World annual passholders are given a sneak peek of what is soon to become one of Disney’s most popular attractions.

The cover of the issue features the new Starspeeder 1000 making tight maneuvers to get away from a laser-blasting AT-AT on the ice planet Hoth:

Inside, the article reads:

Where will the Force take you?
Star Tours is back with new adventures!

The all-new adventures of Star Tours® are set to begin on May 20, 2011, taking you even further into the Star WarsTM universe! You’ll have the chance to see some of your favorite characters, C-3PO and Darth Vader included! Along with the familiar characters, you’ll also get to travel to some awesome, new destinations! Here’s how Walt Disney Imagineers (with a little help from the Force) made it all possible.

New effects = New possibilities

In order to re-imagine Star Tours, Imagineers first had to make a decision: What planets should Guests be able to visit? Tom Fitzgerald, Executive Vice President and Senior Creative Executive of Imagineering, said that “When George was working on Episode I, we went to him and we developed an entire storyboard for the show around the podrace. At the end we stepped back and said that if we’re trying to create the ultimate Star Wars adventure, then why do we have to use just one?” This opened up a whole new galaxy to Guests. Added Tom, “Every time you come back, something new will be there for you to discover.” Imagine the possibilities. You can glide among the trees with Wookiees on Kashyyyk. Kick up some sand across the desert in a podrace on Tatooine. Submerge into the lake waters of Naboo. Weave through the busy city planet of Coruscant. Blast through the blizzards of Hoth. Or, you might even go inside the Death Star!

Droids. A princess. And who’s that guy in black?

Along with the all-new adventures that you can experience, now you’ll never know which of your favorite characters you’ll see! For instance, C-3PO and R2-D2 will be there to help get you through the galaxy in one piece. At least we hope so. And along with the duo of R2-D2 and C-3PO, you might also get the chance to see Princess Leia and everyone’s favorite baddy with a heavy breathing problem, Darth Vader!

Don’t miss your chance to visit some of your favorite planets in that galaxy far, far away! Star Tours®—The Adventures Continue opens during Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios®. Flights will be departing daily!

Accompanying the article is a closer look at the Starspeeder 1000 taking guests past the under-construction Death Star, evading TIE Fighters:

A sidebar reveals a few more tidbits about Star Tours’ characters:

In the updated world of Star Tours, we find some of our favorite characters in the middle of the action! Here’s what’s happening to them:

C-3PO: Protocol droid fluent in over six million languages. And now, in the all-new Star Tours adventures…a reluctant pilot!

R2-D2: Artoo knows a secret plan about Star Tours, one that he hasn’t even told C-3PO!

PRINCESS LEIA: The princess is just realizing the importance that Star Tours could play in the defeat of the Empire.

DARTH VADER: Darth Vader views Star Tours as a potentially dangerous threat. Will his
suspicions come true?

Tucked away in the Calendar section of the back of the Mickey Monitor are the following details of an upcoming giveaway:

PASSHOLDER LANYARD GIVEAWAY
Disney’s Hollywood Studios June 3–5
Sign in at disneyworld.com/passholder to learn more. While supplies last.

No details are available on the passholder site yet, but these dates coincide with the third weekend of Star Wars Weekends, so it’s possible these special free passholder lanyards will relate to Star Wars and/or Star Tours. And if so, they’ll likely disappear at light speed.

Walt Disney World annual passholders should receive their copies of the Summer 2011 Mickey Monitor in the mail soon.

I hope APs will get a special preview of the ride.

At least they readily admit that they started working on this since Phantom Menace.. That was over 12 years ago! The ride should use the tag line "An experience light years in the making!"

I wonder how they're going to pull off having Princess Leia show up. Carrie Fischer definitely doesn't really look like the Princess Leia we remember.

Oh, and this is a really funny article about the plot holes and whatnot of the original Star Tours: http://www.toplessrobot.com/2011/04/10_disturbing_questions_raised_by_the_original_sta.php

Not to be nit-picky, but lightyears are a form of distance, not time.
