3rd out of 7 for me, jumping above Jedi, but one subplot was an anchor that really dragged the entire thing down for me. Still, all the new characters, well the main ones, were awesome.

While I liked the character and what they were going for with Kylo Ren, I wasn't big on having him sorta "lose" to Rey or Finn. 2 untrained duelists taking it to someone seen as the next Vader-type took a little away for me. Rey I was little more forgiving because "The Force", but Finn getting 2 good licks rubbed me the wrong way.

Another Deathstar-type weapon, and the similarity to the solution/finale of New Hope/Jedi.

A few callbacks may have been a little forced, but I don't think it detracted from the movie in any negative way.

I wish Luke was more involved/bigger role, but I get why they went that route.

Remember, Ren was pretty badly injured, and he was completely out of control.

The Death Star 64 subplot was unforgiveable. It was completely and utterly pointless, and actively hurt the movie. We're getting to know and love these new characters and their more intimate stories, and all that grinds to a halt for a completely uninteresting "blow up the Death Star...AGAIN!" plot. Not to mention the Death Star One plot was tied to the new galactic political structure which they didn't bother to explain in the slightest. Ugh. I really liked the movie...but that subplot was worthless.

Yeah.

I read a review that pretty much sums up my thoughts movie "Comparing it to the prequels; for every 1 thing the movies got right, there was 5 things wrong. With Ep 7, for every 1 thing wrong, 5 were right."

Saw it last night too and agreed when I say its #3 in the series, but its a 2A and 2B with a New Hope.

My only gripe int he movie was :

The music....although John Williams new score was AMAZING, the only time I ever got chills...literally chills...watching the movie was whenever the old score was introduced and playing int he background.

This was also easiest the funniest Star Wars movie to date, but it wasn't a bad funny, it felt like talking to an old friend and rehashing some awesome memories, and you're laughing at those awesome memories.

The similarities in the story albeit were there, it still felt fresh, the call backs were great, included a mini trench run, but they did similar things and they changed them up enough to feel new.

I also do with Luke was in the movie longer, but that final helicopter shot was easily one of the most beautiful shots ever in Star Wars, you felt the importance of this moment more than anything, and Hammill's look as old Luke was perfect.

If you hate this movie, something is wrong with you.

Did you all see this in 3D? Reason I ask is there are no 3D theaters nearby up here in the north woods. We only have a Nickelodeon theater. This is me watching Jurassic World at the Nickelodeon:

This movie was awesome. Hadn't seen a star wars movie on the big screen before but my girlfriend and I followed with little issues.

Wow, you should get a job with the Chicago Sun Times. That was very well written JS. The structure was organized and quite concise in thoughts!

What's funny is after watching it regularly, we thought it would be beast to see it in3-D. We're thinking about going back to see it in 3-D tomorrow.

It was probably altered because you posted a spoiler for all to read on opening day. Just ask how to post a hidden spoiler tag.

My question was A spoiler? ... I guess
I don't even have that option on mobile. Doesn't matter I'll just ask the question on another forum then. Thanks.

Thanks! I've been writing reviews throughout the year, but I definitely think this was my best one.

Great Review!!! Hit everything I was thinking about after the movie right on the nose!!!

But I still had one burning question!!!

How the hell could the resistance or the Republic or whatever their called now ever let the Empire regain any strength.

I think the point about Ren is that he's more a less Darth Vader wanna-be, and he's still basically a kid. A kid with awesome powers, but still not yet an adult. It does seem weird he's in charge of so much, but even the General dresses him down at one point. Its like they tolerate him because he's strong in the force. And I assume the Supreme Leader sees potential, but even he admits to not having fully trained him yet.

Remember, --- was pretty badly injured, and he was completely out of control.

I put Phantom Menace above it. Despite Jar-Jar and Kid Skywalker, That flick did a lot right. The final fight had everything it needed to and the build-up to the conclusion of it was astounding. It built Qui-gon well, built Obi-wan well, Built Padme and young skywalker well... It wasn't until the 2nd and 3rd that the prequels really fell apart imo.

Episode 7 just had an entirely lackluster conclusion and final sequence. Starkiller Base had no presence. There was nothing "stand-out iconic" about the film. JJ was too busy trying to throw every single last sub-plot possible into the film and missed out on building the iconography and the audiences relationship to the characters... The only one who I even cared for besides the returning cast and BB-8 was Rey and her possible relationship with Finn.

It wasn't until the final shot where the final act redeemed itself. That shouldn't have been the case...

By far my favorite Star Wars movie, even better than Empire Strikes Back. I connected with these characters.

Loved it, but not as much as New Hope and Empire Strikes Back.

One other thing, Rey is now one of my favorite characters in the entire Saga, close to Yoda and Luke to me on that level of character.
