But we won't be getting Cars Land's rock work by all accounts. Making it all moot.

i would agree with you although i would like to see what ideas they have for an expanded pixar place because visually cars land is stunning

from a themed land perspective it makes sense to expand pixar place and not have a cars land at DHS

I mean i wish they could theme it PIXAR and have RSR as an attraction in itself representing the movie Cars.

That rock work in RSR is indeed beautiful. How much did it cost to build RSR?

Cars land cost 1.1 billion - RSR cost between 200-300 million.

HA! No. That's the price for the entirety of the DCA redo.

RSR was closer to 350-400 million

Yikes! never mind, I would rather them not spend that much on an attraction. Well anything Star Wars related I might differ lol

Yeah, my bad. The 1.1 billion was for the whole makeover. Where are you getting the 350-400 million for RSR? Or does that include the whole Cars Land?

So it cost Disney that much to build right. The question is, hypothetically how much do you think it would have taken another theme park to build? Just wondering after reading that WDI accountant guy's last few articles on Disney

When they finally go after star wars for real, they may just split the expansion up into multiple phases as they increase their creative development on the IP. We could just be seeing phase one here, getting a restaurant and a kiddie ride until they start raking in the money from the new films and can afford to go for phase two.

They talk it in here a little bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0lejenMwdQ&feature=player_embedded#! Most of the information came from theme park insider as well. Warning: The Pete guy in the video very annoying and I found him to be sort of pretentious.

It really is crazy how skewed TDO's spending is that 600 million is a laughable amount.

I am skewing on the hopeful size. If HKDL could eek Mystic Point, Gizzly Gulch and Toy Story Playland for less, good things can happen. Especially when money is not blow on rock work.

RSR rock work is lovely, but they don't need to blow their load on a cloned (albeit amazing) land. I think the Starwars additions will impress and Carsland will disappoint but only because it is being directly compared to DCA. Obviously whatever they do will not be as amazing as RSR, but if they make the attraction different enough it will prevent some of the resentment that WDW got a half-assed clone versus a different but not as exceptional attraction.

Really the easier thing would be to use a different Pixar property to prevent the comparison, but Cars is just way too popular and really helps fill the void in Hollywood studios for something that really grabs the attention of small kids and toddlers.

I can't blame them really for the way the budget seems to be playing out (~2/3 for StarWars and ~1/3 for a Radiator Springs). I think it is about the best they can with that budget and will really please a broad spectrum of age groups with two massive IP's.

With so many different rumors from trusted insiders, I don't know what to think at this point. What I do think is that whatever is "known" right now can change. Even whatever is "known" after Disney's first announcement can change. Look at Fantasyland. Only about half of what they originally announced actually got built - the rest completely changed direction. Budgets can change, and plans can change.

Yeah, just look at how Hyperion Wharf has turned out. 5 years later they announce that in 5 years there will be new stuff.

Yeah to turned out to really be "Disney Springs" and it still is on track to be done in 5 years, it is expected to be complete in 2016. (input sarcasm smiley here)

unless TDO changes the name again that might set it back 5-10 yrs

Technically both New Fantasyland and Hyperion Wharf changed for the better. It sure is slow going, but *if* - and that is an if - this finally gets moving 2016-2018 should be a relatively exciting period of time.

Poor poor Epcot. Not expecting much of anything but updating one or multiple of Soarin', Journey and Energy over the next five years can't be that much to ask... There really is no excuse for all three of them not to get a Test Track like redo in the next three years, especially since Soarin' is a freebee riding the Shanghai coattails.

I love the idea of having a Soarin' where you fly through different Disney settings, or incorporate characters that haven't been used in attractions before. Like I can totally see us running into the UP balloon while flying in the air.
