I watched S2 over the last couple days after being spoiled on most of the big reveals and thought this season was roughly on par with the first. I think that S1 is more consistent but S2 has better highs. The series works best when it's not connecting into other areas of the Star Wars universe, so I have low expectations for how Book of Fett, Ashoka, and Rangers will turn out.

I think I’m probably pretty safe in my assessment when I say there will be probably be individual, but loosely connecting stories that ultimately lead to a Defenders-style team up with Thrawn serving as the big bad.

I'm also confused on why Thrawn is a bad guy.....ok in the first books it made sense he was the after the Empire new leadership....but now from the books I've read he was only with the Empire to defeat a threat from beyond.
The Republic is the new power..wouldn't he now want to team up with them to beat this treat from the unknown regions?

I know he is a villain in Rebels but that was because he had to beat them or else he would have no army....I see no reason's for him not to want to work with the Republic after the second death star

I think you need to look at the Post-RotJ shows (or as I've been calling them, the Filoni-verse) as a live action extension of Clone Wars and Rebels. The Books, while canon, are not widely known outside of Star Wars circles.

Favreau makes it sound like THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT will flow pretty directly into MANDO Season 3. He said Season 3 will go into production as soon as BOBA FETT is done.

I'd guess it will arrive in February(ish) of '22.

That does raise the question of when ANDOR and OBI-WAN will air.
If I had to guess, I think we're looking at:

The Book of Boba - December 2021 (I'm guessing this will be only 6 episodes like Obi-Wan, so it'll be over quick)
Andor - January/February 2022 (this is already filming, so I can't see it coming out after Mando)
The Mandalorian 3 - May 2022 (Andor is 12 episodes, which is why I have such a large gap between shows)
Obi-Wan - July 2022
The Bad Batch 2 - Mid/Late 2022

Maybe one of either Ahsoka or Rangers comes out in Late 2022? Depends on when those starts production. I also think it makes sense to do it in that order as Andor and Obi-Wan are essentially Standalone projects that only serve to flesh out the characters a bit rather than add to the universe. I think a lot of people will be more interested in the Filoni-verse tbh since it's connected, so you ideally don't want to put two stand alone shows back-to-back on the calendar. Doing it so it's every other show is just good business sense, imo.

Then yeah, I don't get why they got Timothy Zahn to write 6 books about Thrawn if he is going going to be a generic bad guy

Zahn created Thrawn, that's why. And I don't think he'll be a "generic bad guy". I think he'll be a bit more nuanced like Thanos. Like yeah, Thanos wanted to halve the world's population, but when you heard Thanos' perspective on why he wanted to do it, it was sort of like, yeah, I see where he's coming from.

I really hope it turns into more of a they find him and then he explains himself and he doesn't die.

He poached from the empire so...he was for sure not on there side just trying to create fighters to help not just defeat rebels but other threats....also if Books don't count no clue why they are making High Order books.

Like video games I can live with non canon stuff if we get a fun adventure but if i read a book (especially 6 of them) they need to be canon or just stop wasting fans time

Literally, we know nothing about Thawn in The Mando Universe except that Ahsoka is looking for him and that Ezra is probably with Thrawn wherever he is based on the end of Rebels. They could be sticking to the new canon Thrawn from the books perfectly. But like I said, expect them to continue with who Thrawn was at the end of Rebels.

I'm going to assume that while Thrawn will have more similarities from how he was written then in Rebels..will become, more skilled and versatile with dealing on unknown environments and trying to survive against a Jedi during the time.

As Thrawn returns, he becomes more attuned and sound with his goals--and would adapt and evolve from his shortcomings: that being those beneath him.

Just a bit of a random comment: I love the music that Ludwig Goransson has currated for this show. I've been listening to the soundtrack just on it's own recently and I've been learning some of it on ukulele and piano. It's amazing how he was able to capture such a classic Star Wars sound, but at the same time incorporate lots of elements that sound like it's off of Daft Punk's TRON: Legacy soundtrack. I hope all of the upcoming shows are similarly able to have stellar soundtracks.

EDIT:
"Troopers" in particular (from the season finale) is one I really like. It sounds a bit like a spy thriller mixed with some western elements at the same time. When I listen to this I can imagine this being from Bourne, James Bond, TRON, etc, but it fits perfectly with the scene in the show. Most probably won't even know the song, but this instrumental sounds a lot like NSYNC's Live Version of "Up Against The Wall" almost to the point where I can start singing the song

As someone who made the Mando ending Song as there Ring Tone the music is dam good.

The Sequels while composed by John Williams to me had NOTHING anyone would hear and think "ohhh thats from the sequels" even the Prequels had some songs people knew (Duels of Fate) and Mando has some strong songs and tones people could hear in the theme parks or somewhere and know where its from

Rey's Theme from TFA and The Spark from TLJ (especially the back half of it) were really solid songs that had their own distinct pieces. Mando with its increased variety of situations and locales and not being hemmed in by the overall main saga's music did give it a fresh sound. I like em all.

I think plenty of even casual fans would recognize "March of the Resistance," as well. (As evidenced by all the people who recognized that Goransson referenced it on MANDALORIAN in an episode earlier this past season.)

And while I can't speak for how "memorable" the overall score is to the masses at large, I think John Williams knocked THE FORCE AWAKENS out of the park. To establish a slate of new themes (Rey, the Resistance, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren -- who actually has two themes) while also feeling like a natural continuation of work he did decades earlier is not an easy thing.

Williams SW Scores Ranked
- THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
- A NEW HOPE
- RETURN OF THE JEDI
- THE PHANTOM MENACE
- THE FORCE AWAKENS
- REVENGE OF THE SITH
- THE RISE OF SKYWALKER
- THE LAST JEDI
- ATTACK OF THE CLONES

And I think even CLONES is a terrific score.

Looking forward to the Documentary special tomorrow. It's not an 8-episodes season this time, just a one hour special - which I think is for the best since they covered the basics one the first season - the only thing new is casting, directing and maybe a few other things.

Hopefully it focuses a lot on the new characters added to this season like Cobb Vanth, Bo-Katan, Koska Reeves, Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett, and specifically seeing raw footage of Max Lloyd Jones doing the saber work/acting work as Luke. And of course, Frog Lady.

Also, I wouldn't mind seeing some stuff from the new directors this season like Peyton Reed, Carl Weathers, Jonny Favs and of course Robert Rodriguez. With COVID though, I don't know what to expect from this. Idk if in recent months since production began again if they did a sit-down or if we'll be looking at more of a zoom-call type of a special (hopefully not).

In speaking of Carl Weathers, how do we think he’s going to factor in to season 3 now that it seems like there will be a huge focus on Mandalore?

I think he will be more in Rangers than Mando 3. He may actually not be in Mando Season 3 at all. He was only in one episode of Season 2 as it is.

Ohhh......god no

Honestly I was hoping for one for each episode even if they were only 20-30 mins each...but there is a lot to talk about with each episode and its kinda a bummer this is what we are getting this time around.

Also I saw in a review someone saying they thought Morgan Elsbeth was witch of dathomir since they were killed in the clone wars....it would make more sense why she was a threat then because if she was just some human then yeah, not as sure why a Jedi could not just take her out.

They didn't cover episode by episode last time though. They covered Directing, Legacy, Cast, Technology, Practical, Process, Score, and Connections. Since all of that is already covered, logically, going on the formula that they went through in season 1 of the documentary, the only updates they need to make are to Directing, Cast and Score with maybe talk a bit about the larger shared universe that's at play. The Mando Cinematic Universe if you will.

So I watched the special. How in the crap was there nothing in here on Luke? This blows my mind. Anyway...

I like that they spent time on every episode. Do I wish maybe it was a bit longer than an hour? Yeah, but being a special was fine. No need for multiple episodes this season. Their use of the volume is simply amazing. The Visual Effects team deserves a ton of credit for creating such photorealistic backdrops (especially Ep3 on Trask).

Robert Rodriguez just has such a chill vibe...

I think it needed to be much...much longer. You had GEORGE LUCAS on set and gave him like 30 seconds...I bet if Dave asked him to do a sit down they could talk alone for an hour on idea's for this season coming up back when they made clone wars and rebels (officially Disney made this but sure lucas wanted a sequel show to clone wars)

It was wayyyyyy wayyyy to short. Easily you could have sit down talks for 30+ mins per episode going over the details more, how they filmed more of the stunts and just talking last season literally had Dave go on a "rant" that ended in a great way of how he see's the Duel of Fates in Episode 1.
I don't want these made for "causal" fans these should be for nerds like us who want to hear every single things talked about because that's why we are watching a behind the scenes video.

But besides it skipping sooo much I wished they talked about more, hearing how everyone and especially Dave talks about SW just shows why this is working so well. They care about making Jabba's Palace Perfect...not for 90% of the people watching but to pay tribute to the people who made the films before them they care about this and unlike Johnson who seems to really dislike the fans...Dave/John are one of us and want to make the best thing they can and for most people they are doing great. I talked to my cousins at Christmas and they loved the end episode and said it basically brought them to tears how good it is to have there favorite Childhood Galaxy back.

Last note....I would love a Clone Wars Season 7 Doc as well....in fact I will take as many as they can give me. I would lobve all the old Rebel/Clone Wars mini docs that made for most important episodes to be added to Disney plus.

I think part of it is with Covid this year, we weren't going to get a sit-down doc. It would've been zoom or nothing, so i'm happy with what we got. Sure, filming is happening again, but it's still risky and to film just for a round table would be stupid. Once they realized that that was out of the cards, they probably spliced all of this footage together to at least have something.
