I was gonna make note how USO already has a theme park within a theme park with krustyland, in response to the super silly funland overlay for kids zone. but then it dawned on me...USH will have both by years end. So super silly funland isn't all that farfetched as it may seem...

To me. looking specifically at cgi animation and eliminating the studios associated with Disney, this leaves:

*Sony Pictures Animation - Notable for Open Season (2006), Surf's Up (2007), Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009), The Smurfs (2011) and Hotel Transylvania (2012)

*Illumination Entertainment - Notable for Despicable Me (2010), Hop (2011) and The Lorax (2012)

*Blue Sky Studios - Notable for Ice Age (2002), Robots (2005), Horton Hears a Who! (2008), Rio (2011) and Epic (2013)

ReelJustice's original Obi Wan quote hinted that this was an "established" IP that had also recently been re-used/reinvented. The most obvious choice from that list (excluding the Seuss stuff) would be Smurfs. Supported by that survey a few months ago, as well, and could certainly support an entire land. That said, I don't know how anyone can say the Smurfs are not directed primarily at children. Then again, I can't think of any animated IP in the past 20 years not primarily directed at children.

Crackpot Theory of the Day: Sharp-eyed Universal lawyers found a loophole and obtained the rights to Rankin-Bass Hobbit/LotR IP, bypassing the Tolkein estate. Explains the seeming confusion over whether or not they have the rights. Established, animated but not aimed at kids so much, still recent from a certain point of view. And they could play "Where There's a Whip There's a Way" in heavy rotation on the background loop.

I would love to see a Hotel Transylvania area. I really enjoyed that movie. However, that would probably clash with the classic Universal Monsters, so I doubt that would happen.

Wait, what about Alvin and the Chipmunks? Has that been mentioned yet? Universal Creative has been spending a lot of time with Fox over the last few years in preparation for Springfield. Alvin and the Chipmunks is a Fox property, so...

I have to shake my head at some of these suggestions and how little folks think of Skip and I's taste in IP.

In Regards to super silly fun land, remember that reeljustice and skip hinted that Universal has or is close to obtaining this IP... therefor Universal didnt have it before. so you can remove super silly from the list

Not necessarily.

EDIT: Basically, this is a very fluid situation with nothing nailed down. What they want to do and what we get could be very different things.

I agree that TMNT would be pretty awesome. How cool would it be to have some pizza with them? And TMNT work even work great as a show.

What if they turned Animal Actors into a TMNT show, and KidZone Pizza across the street to a TMNT themed pizzeria?

I wouldn't mind a TMNT show but I'd have to see what else is coming to KidZone first.

Krusty Krab is my favorite choice for KidZone Pizza.

However, Nickelodeon is on the way out apparently so we might not see either :stunned:

That's what I'm hoping for more than anything. Hopefully the new movie is a critical and Box Office success so the odds are a lot better in the future. Also I have a question. Does DC own the rights to the Lego versions of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern?? I mean I'm not suggesting DC because we know most of you dread anyone talking about it. But what about LEGO theme with Superheroes? Or even other characters from the LEGO MOVIE that are not necessarily superheroes? Or does LEGO LAND have all the rights for this type stuff in parks?? Rights to DC Superheroes in any form--dark and brooding movie versions, Silver Age comic book versions, Lego characters, costumed toddlers--ultimately reside with WB. Would have to reach a deal with them, and almost certainly reach some sort of accord with Six Flags as well, for any of them.

I assume Lego Land has at the very least some restriction on the word "Lego" being used in other attractions around central Florida. They might have substantially stronger protections. Haven't read the contract, don't know.

Re: Mattel. Hot Wheels and Barbie are both iconic brands, not sure how well either fits in a theme park. (And yes, I know Barbie was in EPCOT at one point.) Monsters High makes a bit of sense--the anti-princesses--except they essentially co-opted the characters for Beetlejuice. I hear He-Man is being rebooted, but I'd think Universal would want to see how new version performs before committing.

I made a throw-away comment about Smurfs and TMNT being established but also recent--it inspired the first Obi Wan quote. If it's not those, I think it will be another 80s property recently rebooted. But TMNT lends itself to a ride, an interactive "training zone," a pizza restaurant...
