^ That's certainly unexpected. Guess we won't see a hotel break ground for a few years.

Being Potter wasn't as big as anticipated, I'm not surprised.

I wonder what it'll be used for... most likely employees but I've never seen Frankenstein get that bad before.

Still, this is definitely a byproduct of Potter's underperformance. At least they did something with the space.

Holy. Crap.

I hate to say this, but this will be a change for the better.

Interesting timing. I have to also agree this will be a major change for the better.

Super inevitable considering the way 2016 has gone, but Larry clearly wasn't fitting in as well for this evolving park. It was time for the change, and while Irwin comes from a more retail-oriented place, she still comes from Orlando and that's blood USH sorely needs.

Of course, this doesn't mean change is imminent (or even at all), but it's a good step in the right direction for the park. Hopefully better things come out of this.

It's not going to be a change that is instant; but I think this is the start of operation changes for the resort that'll hopefully be for the best. Either way, I can't wait to see what she has in-store for the parks; especially considering that it's Orlando blood that is coming to LA which could be great in many different aspects.

Even then, the timing is suspect and I'm surprised he doesn't have a quote in Universal's recent press release. They obviously gave him time to look for a new position, but this doesn't seem like an entirely amicable split.

A lot of whispers in the company suggest he was ousted or his contract wasn't renewed.

I'm taking the latter. It was definitely a bit more nuanced than "Larry leaving at his own free will" like certain bloggers are protesting.

He carried the park through difficult times, but different times at that. Really hoping Irwin, like your article suggests can inject some more unifying between UOR and USH in their AP programs and possibly with FOL to Express. As long as they're changing passes all the time, might as well give us some plastic ones to make up for it!  ;)

I really don't understand this perspective. These are the same people peddling the notion that Universal is doing fine, and that these pass changes are business as usual. How could someone say that in the face of all these changes is beyond me.

I think you're underestimating that space. They can put a small "land" in there if they wanted to. It's a huge space.

Haha Yeah... but I was actually kidding about that. Your right though, it is a pretty large space.

I cannot imagine what a WaterWorld ride would be like :)

Going back a few posts. I for one am excited for the change. Larry Kurzweil did an amazing job guiding a company through 9/11 and the 2007-2009 recession. I strongly recommend everyone go back and listen to our interview with Mike Sington and hear what he has to say about the job Kurzweil did (http://insideuniversal.net/2016/04/046-inside-universal-podcast-april-22-2016-mike-sington/). Kurzweil was also the one behind many charitable events Universal Studios Hollywood was involved with, both of these should not go unnoticed, however, it was time for a changing of the guard.

With all that being said, I am extremely excited for Karen Irwin's coming in to take over the reign's of Universal. From the outset she has all of the qualifications you'd want in a President and COO. She's a theme park person with a massive amount of experience in the industry. Hollywood has always been run like it's own business. This move will align the two coasts more closely together.

Universal Parks and Resorts wants to bring this place to become a full on resort and they believe Irwin is the person to do just that. Kurzweil was old hat and more than likely was not able to take the park to the next level.

Hmm, I would wonder if you are implying it for the SS28 Plot or SS's 29 and 31. Either way, I'm intrigued..

...And in other news....

Today, I got word that the (in)famous falling Jurassic Park jeep will no longer be functional, at least in the foreseeable future.

The company that manufactured the falling mechanism and spare parts for it ran out of business a few years back. Since then, the ride mechanics have done their best to keep it running with the limited about of parts they have (hence its sporadic operation). Well, as it turns out, a fatal problem occurred within the mechanism which cannot be repaired without a special part, only available from the manufacturer.

Whether or not Universal decides to contract a new company to make a new mechanism or just leave it there until the end of time remains to be seen. I figured everyone should know so they shouldn't be too bummed out when they don't see it working.

The long and short of this is, as of right now, the jeep will never be functional again. It will remain precariously perched on the corner of the building until the end of time, or until it decides to fall on its own will.

I'm going to step out on a limb and say given its fairly recent poor service history, I don't think most of you on here would be too surprised to see it non-operational.

Sorry if this bums you out, congrats if it doesn't.
