The parade has actually been at 5pm these past few weeks. I believe the 3pm was when the parks were closing earlier.

The parade has always been at 5 p.m. I was referring to the 3 p.m. parade at MK per Teebin's post.

I saw the parade last year on the premier opening night for the parade & the lagoon show. Due to the rain that night, it didn't start till around 9:00 PM. Looked great in the dark. I saw it on subsequent days during the day, but I enjoyed it more as a night parade.

The 7pm Parade is a trail period for the month of August. There are several reasons that I've been hearing from friends that work there. One is the mini shows in the morning by Mels weren't well attended because guests were preoccupied getting in line for DM and TF. Putting a whole show on for a handful of guests isn't worth it. The other reasons are to keep guests in the park longer and to prevent the parade from being canceled do to rain. If this new time works better they'll look into making it permanent.

Random question: anyone know how tall the floats are? They all look to be about the same height.

Did Blaine Kern Studios make these floats?

Did you hear that from your same source as the gem regarding the Simpsons statue? ;)
I will say, though, that the parade won't be running while Macy's is at 5. There will just be more shows throughout the day. Hopefully, once Macy's is at 8 and Superstar is back at 5, the floats will be in MUCH better condition than they currently are.

No not the same source  but ending because it does not let there be major HHN scare zones, and the parade itself is quite pointless :)

I think they did an alright job this year. I mean, it does put some constraints on what they can keep out on the streets, but they still managed to put out quite a lot, and that's the first year they've had to worry about keeping room for the parade. They can only learn from that.
And the parade being pointless is definitely not true. Just because it's not your cup of tea doesn't mean it's not popular. And a heck of a lot better than any Disney parade since Block Party Bash. I will say, though, that it has its issues, but, with the money Comcast is throwing at the parks now, those are problems that should be fixed, not eliminated.

No chance in hell that's right. No insider info here, but c'mon, that's terrible reasoning.

Does anyone know how the parade does in guest satisfaction surveys?

I found the parade underwhelming... you have E.T., the Simpsons, Optimus Prime AND Megatron, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman, Beetlejuice, Woody Woodpecker, Shrek, Terminator, Betty Boop, Marilyn Monroe, Doc Brown, Kong, and Jaws... yet SpongeBob, the Minions and Dora are the only characters chosen?

Not to mention Hello Kitty, Godzilla, Fast and Furious, etc

The parade needs to be turned into a Disney-sized one, and with the fuddle-duddles at TDO throwing $1.5 billion down the drain with MyMagic+, Comcast should strike now!! Add 3-5 more floats and make the parade for more than just little kids

Don't forget about the characters from the "hit comedy" Hop. :look:
The catch with what they decided to do with the parade is that they gave each unit its own moment during the show-stops. If they had more units, the show stop would be excessively long. I mean, the parade is short, but not when you stand somewhere you can watch the show. If you do that, there's even quite a bit of replay value because of the variety of the units.
I wouldn't mind terribly, though, if they did away with the idea of each unit getting its moment and added more units, just so it could be entertaining if you wanted to watch it go by. Like the Hollywood Dreams Parade in Singapore, but with show-stops!

I'm just saying 3-5 more IPs get included so the parade has more variety

1) Simpsons
2) Transformers
3) Classic Monsters
4) Spielberg (E.T., BTTF, and Jaws)
5) Woody Woodpecker as host of the parade

Shrek is on the way out so there's no point in adding him to the lineup

The floats are neat, but when you can see them during the day you know it's not a good parade. The stops are only there to make it longer, since in reality if you don't watch it in Hollywood or New York it's a 2 minute parade. I agree with what others are saying, Universal just needs to make one long year round parade with most of the existing IPs they have in the parks.

I know it's the wrong park, but JP would be fun. Singapore uses crazy lifelike puppet/costumes for raptors and a large animatronic t-rex.
Their Shrek unit is actually cool, too, even if the IP is fading. I just hope Uni never gets rid of the Donkey M&G. That experience is awesome regardless of the IP.

Oh **** this... Wait U-Turn, yeah it's legit. Fast forwards 2 days, oh it's back on!

Sarcasm....

Why would they stop the highest rated form of entertainment and something that does exactly what it's supposed to do each and every day by keeping people in the parks longer? Why lessen guest options during what's expected to be the busiest year for the resort ever? As for character choices this was a direct result in going after YOUNG children and their families. Not a whole lot of young ones interested in the Simpsons, Doc, or Dracula...

I like the trend of adding show-stops. The best parade Orlando has ever seen, IMHO, is Block Party Bash, which was actually considered a "moving show" or some noise like that. I'd love if they'd add more units, but I definitely wouldn't say it's not good. With as poor as the current offerings are in the US, I can't think of anything better that's currently running.

I don't think all of us are saying they should use every IP. Scooby Doo, Woody Woodpecker, Betty Boop, that's the stuff that would fit in the parade. The parade would improve vastly if there were more floats since 4 is really, really bad.
