I’ve just looked at the London Resort location for the first time - surely it’s in a massively less convenient location for the majority of the domestic population and major airports? Heathrow might be a toss up (though Elizabeth link/Thameslink is beautiful to Bedford) but Gatwick and Luton on direct lines to Bedford and Stansted oddly inconvenient both ways. Direct line from the main London train terminal to Universal site too.

London Resort site is beyond Dartford, well beyond M25. East of London is the 9th circle of transport hell. Birmingham/North to London Resort site would be an odyssey.

Assuming I’m looking at the right place that is.

Bedford is a much, much better location. It will have way better transport links for the majority of the UK, including most of London, and for international visitors who want to go direct to USGB.

I think the 4-lands quote is oddly specific. It might be that The Mirror is simply rehashing the Bloomberg story from a couple of weeks ago, adding their own speculation about the composition of the park to pad out their story. Or, they’ve been briefed by someone who has seen the detail of Universal’s proposals to the DCMS and the opening day roster for Universal GB will be based on an entrance zone/hub plus four separate lands (or portals ;-) ). Sounds perfectly plausible.

It's possible that they're referring to the "4 lands" as the overall zones planned out on the proposals - Lake Zone, Core Zone, East Gateway Zone and West Gateway Zone.

Not sure where the source of this information has come from, or the legitimacy of it, but a rather large Universal fan group is making some claims that a decision/announcement may be imminent.

That’s just repeating what was in The Mirror (a British tabloid newspaper) a couple of days ago. Might be something, might be nothing. Probably something in it, as Bloomberg said something similar a few weeks ago, likely based on briefing or insider info from the relevant government department.

Hilarious that both my quick image I threw together with a logo and a free stock image background continues to be used for this, and that in this case, they actually watermarked it!

This is interesting. The land in the article has been discussed on here quite a bit.

One of the few times I added a watermark and @Brian G. was awesome enough to ask for permission.

I don't think this effects the licensing of the property one way or another. Amazon already had ownership of the IP, they just have significantly more creative control over the content of future films now.

Shaken, not stirred?

I don't think this changes anything but I'd be inclined to think this would be better news for the IP in the park than not.

Giving my take; I actually think this won't dampen anything at all. From what can be gathered through licensing, UDX already has connections with Amazon through that of their time with Halloween Horror Nights. Excluding the rumored Fallout house--they worked with the merged Amazon/MGM when Hollywood brought them onboard for 2022, when they had Killer Klowns from Outer Space (And had Candyman represented through the Monkeypaw requel).

Even excluding that, I imagine the door is still open regardless; it just boils down to how Universal offers things and how appealing it would be for Amazon.

Yeah, Amazon has continued to license properties to Universal ever since buying MGM (KKFOS at Horror Nights in 2022). I think Amazon owning Bond is really bad for the IP but actually pretty good for the chances of it coming to Universal.

Agreed. The previous ownership was much more strict with the IP, thus the lack of new Bond news. If anything, this is an opening of the floodgates and perhaps an invitation for Universal to do even more with the property than planned... that is, if they can reach an agreement.

Sad for the IP in general though. Which tbh if amazon flog it to death it’ll be worth naff all prestige wise in the long term anyway.

A couple of slightly esoteric updates:

A planning inspector from the national Planning Inspectorate has granted Bedford Council a further delay in the process for examining and approving their 2040 local growth plan. This delay was requested by Bedford Council because of the uncertainty around Universal's proposals for its theme park. Prior to Universal's purchase of the plot of land at Kempston, that site was being considered by Bedford Council in their 2040 plan as a potential new housing settlement. As there has not been a conclusion to the negotiations between Universal and the Government, Bedford Council has for a number of months put the examination of their draft local plan on pause. The Planning Inspectorate has now agreed to continue that pause until 31 May, but has asked for monthly updates on the situation from 1 March.

In unrelated news, the local MP, Blake Stephenson, has secured a debate on 'Government Support for the Tourism Industry'. This debate takes place during 'English Tourism Week'. Wonder if that would be considered a good opportunity to confirm that Universal and the Government has reached an agreement and they will now move to the next stage of the planning process? In bidding for this debate Mr Stephenson highlighted Universal's possible investment in his constituency. A government minister will be required to respond to points raised during the debate on 20 March, and I'd guess this will be Sir Chris Bryant, Minister for Tourism and the lead minister for negotiations with Universal.

I think if Universal announced the park / resort a lot of other people will know where they stand for the future.

Wixams station has started to be built but they don’t know if it’ll be 2 or 4 platforms until universal confirm or bail out. The whole thing might need redesigning depending how far they progress with the build.

Easy West Rail have done consultations but also can’t confirm what they are going to do until agreed with universal.

I guess how can Bedford Council plan anything until they know if a huge resort is being built or not? Kind of makes sense to me.

So much seems to be hanging on the Gov and Universals secret talks.

As a few people have pointed out, the government keep talking up investment by lots of big companies and name everyone except for universal.

Comcast have got some clout so keep it so quiet!
