It's true about the queue videos, however I was focusing more on the on ride experience. The queue video impact is far less than on ride experience. As Gringotts as showed us, there are ways of enhancing the queue experience without resorting to queue videos featuring main actors as set up (doesn't Gringotts queue have only one instance of the Big three showing up, and in only shadow form at that? Outside of the moving Daily Prophet images, which were mostly taken directly from the movies). That same approach could be taken with just about any future attraction Universal plans on building.
And I can understand not seeing Star Trek's influence if its not part of your circle. It isn't in my circle either. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Nintendo, comics and horror films are the driving geekdoms in my group of friends. However, I am a massive convention junky. I travel all over the country, from SDCC to NYCC and countless other inbetween every year. The influence of Star Trek is enormous at every one, with the Star Trek actors having among the longest lines for autographs. Just last year I attended a convention where Marina Sirtis from Star Trek NG (I think?) was in attendance. Her line for autographs was the longest, at almost a 2 hour wait at one point, with people of all ages waiting. And that was against other massive geekdom favorites like Stephen Amell, and some others I can't for the life of me remember. I myself swung by Robert Englund's table, talked to him for about ten minutes and was in and out of the autograph area in about 15 minutes lol.
