So, there were recently some Star Trek related Trademarks filed by CBS Studios that definitely indicate the intent to use the IP in a theme park/amusement park setting (attached below).

And I know what you're probably thinking, "Trademarks don't mean much, companies file them all the time and don't always use them..." But, what really leads me to believe there are Star Trek attraction/theme park plans on the horizon is CBS Studios' track record for filing "amusement park" related trademarks.

Unlike some companies (Fox, for example) who like to file blanket trademarks for their content, CBS has only filed three (3) other amusement park related trademarks, and they were all utilized (previous trademarks highlighted):

So that makes me fairly confident something is in the works, and hopefully that something involves Universal!

Well to be fair, I don't think anyone would (or at least they shouldn't see) see a Star Trek attraction as an attempt to directly compete with Star Wars. Star Wars has always been the far more popular IP. And Star Trek has never been a big player in international territories, though that is slowly changing. Into Darkness has been the biggest international grossing Star Trek film to date.

With all that said, Star Trek is arguably the second most recognizable sci-fi IP out there, so any attractions based on it should do well for themselves.

You could say the same thing about the Fallon ride. While they aren't paying a licensing fee, they are paying Fallon himself, which is similar. Which property would say is a bigger draw to the GP then? Fallon or Star Trek? I'd be willing to bet Star Trek wins that one for most people.

I mean, Universal is paying Fallon either way. He works for them. And that's a one-time expenditure to film Fallon's stuff.

There is no way if his lawyer is worth anything that is how it played out. I'm sure his original contract with NBC didn't cover amusement attractions... And if that's the case, negotiations would have had to take place for his involvement with the attraction.

Star Trek films aren't big international players but the Star Trek: TV show is widely popular in the Eastern world with the exception of Japan and Star Wars is widely popular in the Western world.

And if we are going based off licensing...Universal should have gotten Avatar because even the Force Awakens could surpass blue aliens.

Except there's no money in Avatar merchandising (maybe the DAK land can change that), which is all they care about Parks-wise.

Like I said above, it's doubtful that provision was even considered when he first joined NBC's payroll (let's not forget the turmoil NBC's late night lineup was in when he came on board), so then negotiations would have had to take place.

I am by no means a Stat Trek fan, but I think you are far underestimating the devotion of its fan base and the merch potential. While it wouldn't be as big as Harry Potter or Marvel, I think it would quickly grow to be better selling then probably most of the other properties in the parks.

I think some sort of Star Trek ride (maybe a small area?) could be successful on brand name alone. Plus, if it's a good ride, having it be based off an IP is only a bonus. While I don't think it should go into either two of the current parks, if the third park has some sort of sci-fi themed area, Star Trek would be the perfect thing to add.

I actually agree with @Stitch_101 here. We don't know the full details and they are using Fallon's likeness/Brand, just the same as using the Star Trek Brand, to create a ride.

If I was re-negotiating a contract for Fallon, i'd want licensing fees as the ride will be popular BECAUSE OF HIM. He could've said no and NBC likely couldn't have done anything about it. Of course Fallon is a puppet and having your own ride is cool, but i'd be surprised if he isn't getting paid licensing fees based on attraction performance.

I recall previous OU posts that there were talks a year and a half ago negotiating for Star Trek at the Studios. Evidently nothing came of them. Or perhaps they were discontinued once Universal engineered the Nintendo agreement. I guess one problem is that there's so much Universal would like to do but there's only so much they can put on their plate at a time. Plus, expansion space is somewhat limited without having to tear down existing capacity. I guess this is where a third park would solve those problems with fresh space to build on.

Don't forget that Fallon does the USH studio tour safety video. I would imagine that his contract already had some focus on theme parks. now an attraction that features him may be a different thing.

Does the expansion pad next to Seuss still exist?
