That was just King Kong... we are talking about Harry Potter here. One is proven to be a mega theme park cash cow, the other, not so much. Too, much of the costs involved in the kong attraction had to be the mega CGI creation itself. Four separate rendered CGI films.

Still. That's a whole lot of money. This would probably rival the price tag of the entirety of Phase 1. Speaking of CGI, the film would have to be a lot longer for this type of experience. And you would probably need extra footage to splice in during any stoppages.

Wow, you were forward thinking long before the rumor of a train between, or the WW in both IOA and USF! 14 months before! That said, yesterday I wasn't trying to come up with an attraction, just a filler for 1600' of distance that could merit the choo-choo ride.

Hey guys. Been watching the thread for a long time. Pretty exciting stuff!

I had a thought in regards to a Hogwarts Express connecting the two parks, if that ends up being the case. At first, I thought it sounded awfully boring, but I've warmed to the idea. As to concerns about creating a King Kong-style 3D video tunnel for such a long distance, couldn't they simply have two shorter tunnels with screens at either end of the track? The first could show us leaving London and heading into the countryside, then entering a train tunnel. The actual transportation from US to IOA could all be enclosed in a dark tunnel, during which there could be voice-over and even in-car effects, then upon reaching IOA, we come out of the tunnel and into an epic 3D Scottish Highlands environment. They could easily make it look like the train is traveling much faster and much farther that it is on both ends. And obviously vice versa, for the return trip.

Yeah good point you're right, my idea was way before any thought of having the two parks connected, just having a shuttle to Hogsmeade to the L.C. expansion.

Anyway, does anyone know the limits to the King Kong technology at USH? From what I remember of the making of the ride (with Sir PJ), the tram drives into a room with big screens in the shape of a giant ellipse, the screens are at quite a big distance from the stationary trams (I haven't been on it, do the trams move?). Back to the tWWoHP: P2R/S, could this tech even be used in a window pane of the train like the Samsung Smart TV ad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vf9UQnCjDc) or would the screens have to be at a distance from the train, thus having a super wide track?

Does anyone think the Train debate of the potential Phase 2 will rival the Great Courtyard debate of Phase 1 LOL.

I believe the screens are so far away because of the fact that 3d needs to be at a distance in order to create the optimal effect. I'm sure you could use window pane type screens, but the resolution would be so terrible, and you'd be so close to the screens that any type of 3d would not really work.

^ I have examined this today and I would have the kong style building at the IOA end. Reason: You can't fake a train leaving a forest and the countryside except in a film based solution, but you can easily fake the real Kings Cross Station in that all trains come out of a tunnel just before the station. The short distance between the tunnel can be faked with parked trains on either side of a fake track whizzing by.

So, 200' queue on both ends
200' show building
1000' ft at 20mph = 33 seconds of dark tunnel and station entry.

I love it... Get the engineers in here to make it a reality.

Rather hoping none of this is finished before 2015/16, otherwise I feel like I should postpone our 2012/13 vacation. Still, can't exactly get upset over a Harry Potter expansion! Especially not one that involves Diagon Alley. HECK YEAH!

I wouldn't cancel. One of the best attractions you will see in 12/13 is everything being built! If ehrm... AHEM, anything... is ever.... well, you know... built.

I don't think the train windows need to be 3D. Regular screens would be fine IMO.

But you it would still be awkward since it would be a closed train, not open like the Studio tram or WDW Railroad.

Why would it be awkward? It'll just be like any other ride held in an enclosed environment. Although, it does bring up the point of what to do with people who suffer from claustrophobia and wouldn't be able to ride... They could have a train vehicle with regular windows for them, but I bet the number of people who are bothered by it would be minimal and it would be a waste to have such a vehicle. Those people can just walk to the other park the old fashioned way :P

Well I guess it would depend on how many people are in a row. Anymore than two people in a row would be tough for the people inside to see since everything would be taking place outside the window. Unless they went the way of the Submarine Voyage and faced the rows to the outside.

Ah Teebs, back to the riddles, trying to tell us that something will be built before something is built? So a mini expansion, before a major one?

Well, if it's a regular screen, then the whole Kong system is out, which was my argument. Even if Teebin's proposal was built where we would only enter a 200 ft section that we went into at the end at 20 mph, you have three options. You stop the train so that people can see the screens, or you cruise through them at the same rate of speed, or you go through at a slower speed. If you stop the train, you get to see everything but you would have a real serious congestion problem. If you go through at the same rate of speed (around 20 mph) it would be in there all of ten seconds before exiting, but congestion would be alleviated. If you slow down, you get a medium amount of time in the screens, but also cause some congestion problems, but not as many as coming to a full stop. Either way, the Kong system here is a headache. An EXPENSIVE headache at that.

Screens on the window, I'm not down for, as you'll just be too close. Regular screens on the outside would be feasible, but rather boring. When you're zipping around on FJ and are submersed in the mini Imax domes, 2-D is fine. But regular screens on a slow moving train just seems dull.

No. He's just saying construction is a great attraction.

No, simply for the fact that if they DO add a Hogwarts train, the Sinbad show is directly in its (likely) path.
