Oh well that's already a given. I was talking about how it would ruin the magic of riding the train if you can easily see what's really happening by riding Dragon Challenge.

Off topic, I would love for them to enclose Dragon Challenge, but yes I understand that is near impossible.

But I think that these Samsung TVs can work, because they transition from a window (where you are seeing Kings Cross) to a screen which with some tinkering I am sure would seem like magic to the guest.

Imagine pulling out seeing people in the queue, or queuing up and then all of a sudden you see the English country side, whizzing by, all while you are on an elevated train, going from park to park.

Hopefully the elevated train will be seen by guests at USF as it will be a great weenie, and it will provide some great kinetic energy.

Overall though I am flippin' jazzed by this!

What is so special about the Samsung tvs? They are just LED/LCD tvs! That commercial is shot in such a way as to give the panels depth where there is none. The little girl on the train isn't actually seeing the boys full front face as she would in real life, she is merely positioned to give the camera the illusion that she is. The only thing special is that it is a very well planned and thought out commercial.

It's not just by the commercial. The other one that looks like a window (transparent) is pretty rad too! Super thin, OLED screens just look pretty amazing. And all those interactive features are pretty cool too ;)

Sorry if I'm missing something here since I'm not a HP fan, but why are we discussing interactive screens? Isn't this about projection, not interactivity? And it definitly wouldn't be an actual window. They want something that hides the actual exterior enviornment. They need a screen that gives the illusion of depth, so it doesn't look like you have your face pressed against a computer screen.

That's the thing. There isn't one.

Not with multiple people being able to freely view a screen at any angle they'd like. Microsoft is working on a screen that uses kinect for head tracking to mimic the depth you get when you ride Spider-Man, but even then it only works with one person at a time.

The only fool-proof solution is to put as much distance between the viewer and the screen, so the viewing angle doesn't change much (i.e. King Kong 360 3D). But it doesn't sound like that's happening. :/

I think we're more discussing them because they're super thin screens, and they display picture with remarkable depth without being 3D TVs. And like mentioned before, these have the ability to be transparent while you're in the station, and look like a window, but then display a picture and shield the outside world.

No, you don't understand. We see in varying degrees of depth. If you were to watch a scene from the train using those TVs, your face would see the screen behind the glass at a weirdly distorted angle, just as if you put your head by a TV in your home at the same angle. That window-pane technology is similar. There was a small model "outside", and the only thing that was new was the interface on the pane itself.

There is currently no technology sufficient for this illusion but using the 3D technology akin to that in Kong 360-3D (except through window panes, of course). As Decemberists stated, the perspective change that Microsoft is developing still would only work for one person. So 3D is the only way. Now, why we would be wearing glasses indoors is a question for Universal Creative to answer.

They could probably get away with it not being in 3-D. They pulled it off with Forbidden Journey fairly well, although I admit it would be better with it.

I wasn't suggesting there was such a technology. I was just saying that you can put all the fancy effects in the screen that you want, but you still have to be able to see it and believe what you're looking at.

Would the windows interfere with the 3D lenses?

Just in case anyone isn't following along with what we're talking about (skip to about 2:00):

Pretend that the screen is a window. It only works because they have complete control over the rider's viewing angle.

On a side note: I'm looking forward to the update, but I'm really going to miss the comic book style. :(

I can definitely see a spectrespecs tie-in so we can "see the wrackspurts" or something. I don't know. They'll manage.

The more and more I think of this, the more complicated it becomes in my mind. I'm for a regular screen displaying the countryside and maybe some magical mayhem to encounter along the trip. But if it's a screen, any screen, the passengers by the windows will be right up against it and that would be bothersome. They could figure a way to angle the seats so there's a better viewing angle for all passengers, but it might be a little awkward. The best way would be if the seats turned 90 degrees and we would face the windows/screens, and be at a reasonable distance from the screen, but that wouldn't be very authentic now, would it?

They could possibly make the sides of the train larger to give the viewer more room to make a forced perspective window. The window would still be next to you, but there would be space between the actual window and the screens.

Also to answer some one elses question...I only did 2 park pass once, and I didn't really like it because I hated walking through City Walk twice. This train ride woul definitely give me an extra incentive to purchase the 2 park ticket...although I was just at IOA, and I don't really feel any want or need to go there for a while.

I think you hit on the real conundrum.

But honestly at this point I have so much faith in Universal Creative that I am really not worried.

I really think the Samsung Window would be the best and most practical

All jokes aside, I wouldn't be surprised if this had been considered at some point...

A dome screen would be the most practical. No way to screw that up unless the train derailed and just happened to slide right next to the screen.

Well I suppose they'd be more worried about deaths then...

Gah! If it weren't for the fact that the track will be elevated specifically to allow traffic flow, I'd say they would be doing this, too. King Kong 360's track is elevated to allow the dome to extend down some. Bah. Frustration.

--- Update ---

OMG.

You guys.

I got it.

It's so simple.

Curtains!

Yeah, the train being elevated limits the solutions to the problems. Now if they put the train underground....:idea2:

Really what they need to do, is close IOA. Build the park up a good 10 stories. Make that a parking garage. Put in a mall. Rebuild that park on top. Then leave the floor below that for the train. Problem solves
