Well what a time to lose the internet

Absolutely fantastic effort you guys, thank you so much. This is the most exciting thing for a long time. I have so many questions now! Looking forward to all the wild speculation from here on out.

I got the impression that the 'bridge' is purely temporary for construction purposes. Specifically for transporting materials for one side of the site to another is what it looks like.

I was thinking this as well, but this is also why they have the giant tower cranes. The concept art and permits do suggest an overhang of some sort, but the current bridge structure does seem extreme and does look out of place compared to everything else currently in the land.

Being indoors it could still simulate being outdoors, although it makes sense to be indoors, or more closed in.

BTW, random but somewhat related note:

Diagon Alley > Diagonally (as in the shape)

Knocturn Alley > Nocturnally (as in occurring at night)

I love JK Rowling and her creativity

Thanks to richjagr I got the correct FireWire cable at TigerDirect. I got 4:14 of edited video above WWOHP:DA and as soon as I get home I'll be uploading to YouTube. I need wireless, I am going to use my air card for this. It should be up by the AM.

I think if they theme it well it might look okay from the ground. they could make the sides and bottom old and rusty. Its that shiny aluminum thats making me nervous.

The bridge/canopy/warehouse walkway is permanent, absolutely permanent. If we all think back to the "water plans", there was a small concrete footer in that location that I mistook for a statue or obelisk. In actuality, it was the midway support for this "bridge".

It has been suggested to me that it may serve two jobs: Whimsy and lighting... and possible 'in land' pyro effects. I see either side mounted with translucent dirty windows that would be lit up each night.

That said, it is starting to grow on me...

I know I am late to the party but I just have to add to the general "that's freaking awesome" vibe going on here. Great job to everyone involved. Just excellent! Count me in as a contributor on your next journey.

Some interesting info right there. We're seeing a bare-boned visual obtrusion right now, but in person this is probably pretty high up, so it won't obstruct that much of the view, and also once this is themed, it might not be as bad as it seems right now; it might end up being quite nice.

I know its been brought up here before but there was a bridge/walkway shown briefly in diagon alley in the sorceress stone. At 0:08 on the far right of Gringots

I'll worry about the elevated walkway when theming is done. As of right now I'm not concerned

Great Pictures Bob and everybody else. I have to say I'm more excited for this expansion than anything except the original harry potter construction. The only concern I have is that with the size of the alley, demand is easily going to outweigh space. Nevertheless I love all of the realism in the land and cannot wait to see what the final product looks like next summer.

Just curious about the walkway, but if it is indeed a cast member access, why not do it disney like and just do a tunnel? I'm sure there are things buried there that would be an inconvenience to work around, but you'd think they could find some way to bury it. I don't think it will be a huge deal when its all done, but still, I can't see the benefit of having it there.

There are actually not as many CM tunnels as many people think. And they are not actually underground. Magic Kingdom was built with the tunnels above ground, and then the park on top of that (like being on the second level). That was quite a massive project, much larger than DA, and they formed the land around the structure to make the park appear at ground level.

Remember, the Utilidoors are not tunnels. They are the first level of a structure. Digging in that area would be hell with the water table.

With that being said, I don't think the walkway is there for TM access.

The bridge isn't for cast members, and Florida has a very high water table at times. MK is built on a man made hill for those tunnels. Note that they never tried it again, as it is fraught with water difficulties. The deepest tunnel you will see in this construction is with with the south station.
