Thanks for the additional pics, Dave and Jwhee!

I guess after sleeping on it, I get it; the sagging part of the building makes sense as where # 12 appears and disappears, like in the movie. In the books it's slightly different, but visually, I understand it, it makes sense

HTF posted this on his Twitter feed today:

"Dragon on top of Gringotts is legit. It will move and it will be badass. Got pyro?"

I'm extremely curious (and excited) to see how the dragon turns out. I was opposed to it at first, but now I'm thinking it's a very smart decision. The dragon could turn out to be a stunning focal point for the expansion.

From an engineering perspective, I'm highly skeptical of the movement that'll be involved here. Pyro can be pretty sustainable as we've seen from volcanoes and other such effects, but the constant wear and tear on something so massive operating 365 days a year is incredible. Let alone when you throw that thing outside on a roof in the elements. I'm very curious as two things: 1) the range and intensity of movement 2) the frequency.

This has become one of the most intriguing parts of the project for me.

You mean like....ride vehicles or show elements...? It'll require upkeep, just like anything else lol.

The tech they're using isn't too new. Just upscaled.

This is my main concern with it. For the dragon to live up to the name and hype of DA, it's movement will have to be super life-like and I just can't see it being that way if it's outside and operating everyday. And what about downtime? Will we just have a passed-out-drunk Dragon lying on top of Gringotts?

Funny.

Totally different animals. Parts that wear on RVs are usually easier to maintain and replace. Rides have multiple vehicles. There's one dragon working all the time. Find me another show element that's an enormous moving mechanical figure exposed to the elements. Disney couldn't keep theirs running inside of a controlled mountain. Look at the very sorry state that JP slips into got another. Don't pretend this has been done before. And the standard is high to maintain in HP. It can't be anything but perfect.

I'm wondering is the dragon won't just be a show deal. Something where it only comes out once an hour, or even less than that. If its something that only is visible 4-5 times a day, does a 2 minute show then goes back inside, it is more doable. That gives them plenty of downtime to maintain it.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking too.
And even if their intention is to leave the dragon out all the time, I'd think they would design it to easily disappear within the roof/dome for maintenance.

That was my initial thought. It was similar to something I had seen not too long ago at (forgive me) downtown Disney. The new update to rainforest cafe every 20 mins or so flames shoot out of a volcano. My thought is this would be similar.

What could HTF's most recent tweet mean?

"@hatetofly: One feature in the Gringotts queue is something I've never seen done before. It's also something they're going to make a "secure" dollar on."

Possibly an in-queue merchandise location designed to look like a teller counter or vault (secure) where you can make a "withdrawal" (purchase) of Wizarding World money?

I like the money idea. Noble collection makes a replica set from the movies, it could be that. I think a vault door key would be cool too
