News about Dinklage's character from Collider

Peter Dinklage to Play Villain in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

X-Men: Days of Future Past is raising my expectations too high. Judging by his latest interview with Steve, Bryan Singer looks like he hasn’t missed a beat when it comes to the franchise, and he’s assembled an amazing cast. The film only got stronger yesterday when we learned that Emmy-winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) had joined the film. While it was speculated that he would be playing the Alpha Flight character “Puck”, today we’ve learned that Dinklage has landed the villain role.

According to Variety, Dinklage will play the “main antagonist”. I’m not sure if that means he’ll be the only bad guy, but all of the other X-Men films have had a lead bad guy and then powerful underlings (even if they weren’t acting under their own volition like in X2). At the very least, we know that the Sentinels (giant robots who exterminate mutants) will be a “big feature” of the story.

So who will Dinklage play? Devin Faraci over at Badass Digest made the interesting argument that the villain could be the bizarre Mr. Sinister. Even though Sinister doesn’t factor into the Days of Future Past comic book, Singer isn’t being precious with the material. I think if we did see Mr. Sinister, it would be so far removed from what we’ve seen in the comics that it would render the character nearly unrecognizable. He’s simply too outlandish to bring to the screen even if you did motion-capture. Perhaps, as Devin argues, Sinister could be a neat stepping stone to Apocalypse, but I have a different theory.

I think Dinklage will play Bolivar Trask, the creator of the Sentinels. I believe the Sentinels will be the major foe because we can only see mutants fighting mutants so many times. Furthermore, the sentinels lack personalities, so it’s up to a great actor like Dinklage to provide the emotional aspect of the threat. It would also be a nice touch that if Trask was Dinklage’s size (he’s not in the comics), then he would devote his life to creating gigantic machines as a way to realize the physical strength and power he lacks.

Additionally, director Bryan Singer recently tweeted.....

As Collider points out.....

The one on the left belonging to present day Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and the other belonging to 1970s Charles Xavier (James McAvoy).

Had to go back a few pages to find this thread, but what did everyone think? I thought it was awesome. I never really liked X-Men but I always liked Wolverine. So the last week I watched all the movies and got into them more. Thought this was great, maybe best of the summer so far

Here's my Review of it.

This is My favorite Superhero film since THE AVENGERS as it works perfectly. The sentinels are accurate to the film, all the Casting is supurb, Its nice to see

Reasons to some of these films get fixed to fit in. I loved Patrick Stewarts interaction with James Mackavoy (It was shown in trailers) and with alot of the scenes of

Fassbender and Mackavoy made me smile. I also loved the 2 actors (Stewart and Ian) preformance in a war in the future to stop it from happening. Ellen page is great

with Peter Dinklage. I still enjoy Hugh Jackman but the one actor that stole the entire show was Evan Peters as Quicksilver. He is the one character that stole the

ENTIRE film for me, making me laugh and root for that character as it felt as he was a Subbern ass to some of the thugs and was cocky. It made me enjoy him to a

laughing point on one scene of where he stages a takedown to get someone out. This film; never had me saying "Why does it not make sense" and kept me on the edge

of my seat (Due to I never read the storyline of the comic). It is right now, the BEST film for me this year as its really 'Fun' and 'Enjoyable' in ways that I haven't

seen a film in a while. Score is a 10 Out of a 10..

And THAT X2 THEME!

Loved it.

Was a big fan of First Class and this was a great follow up. Right mix of action, storytelling and humor.

Loved it. Best of the summer. Thus far, anyway.

Really wasn't interested in going to the theatre to see this but my dad offered...absolutely loved it! Great film! Raised a lot of questions in my mind concerning the timeline they are creating but overall a very good installment to the X-Men franchise!

LOVED this, UK TV had all the other movies on in the weeks leading up, so got to refresh before going. I thought it might end up too long, but was engrossed from, beginning to end, even forgot to eat the popcorn!

I liked how they set out the story at the start. Anyone who hadn't seen the other films could get confused with the backwards and forwards.

Good flick. Not as good as X2, but then, X2 is one of the best superhero movies ever made. I love how in all these interviews with the writers (who also helped write X-Men: The Last Stand) people ask them why there are continuity errors between this and X3. Their answer in a nutshell: "F*ck X3."

Am I the only one who thought it was "meh". It didn't live up to first class imo. It was a good flick. One I could add to the collection even... But I'm not gonna turn it on and watch it every day like I did the avengers or plan on doing with CA2.
