No where near it....Potter is witches and magic...LOTR is mythical dark and wars....this would be the tentpole IP if the rumored 3rd gate comes to fruition.

^ They are very similar in that they both hinge on a thing(s) of power that must be destroyed in order for good to prevail. They differ only most by the cultures and periods represented.

And of course, Islands of Adventure will be dubbed "the Harry Potter AND The Lord of the Rings theme park".

I'd hope Toon Lagoon would leave in favor of Lord of the Rings, if this would be the replacement IP. Of course, Disneyhead did mention something revolving around food... Specifically chocolate.

onion Rings, Chocolate manufacturers, and adult Trolley rides appear to be floating around as blue sky big picture stuff right now. That said, keep in mind that a Year Round HAUNT was nearly guaranteed to be built between NY and Hollywood 13 1/2 months ago. So... dream away if you must.

All right, look, there's only one "Return," okay, and it ain't "of the King," it's "of the Jedi." Oh classic Randal.

Just wondering....is the theme for Lord of the Rings too similar to Harry Potter?

No and Yes.

People who aren't too familiar with both series assume they're similar, but they really aren't.

There's no wands in LOTR, almost no spells, besides a few for Gandalf, it's sparingly.

Most of HP revolves around the school, hogwarts and london and tells several stories. LOTR takes place in a multitude of areas but has one very strong storyline. LOTR is one of the ultimate stories of good vs evil.

I think the fact that Dumbledore looks a bit like Gandalf throws people off.

I'm not much of an HP fan at all, but I LOVE LOTR

Someone here already asked me this privately, and the answer is no. One of these three leaves me cold, but that isn't saying much considering Simpsons leaves me cold. One of them seems absolutely impossible to pull off to anyone's satisfaction. The last seems dull and hackneyed.

But UC is creative, and have a far greater research team than I alone. So, what ever is next we will have to see. Just beware of false leads, unintended or not.

LOTR, Wonka. The Trolley ride part has me stumped

A trolley system connecting the new future expansion in place of the monorail that has been floating around lately?

Well Charlie and the chocolate factory seems like a strange replacement for LC, but anything would be an improvement...anchor of a third gate would do lotr much more justice, but if they got their hands on it I'm sure they'd want to act as soon as they can, not wait until the 3rd gate is constructed

Wonka's actually interesting. Wilder, Depp, candy mascot, or pulled directly from the book somehow? Boat ride is obvious, the food service/unique dining options are kind of a "duh," and, done right, Oompa Loompa merch would fly off the shelves.

Still have a hard time believing Tolkien's son would settle out of court, which means the rights could be tied up for years. He's seemingly not fighting for money, but for his view of his father's wishes.

Adult trolley has me stumped. Tennessee Williams Land?

Both Wilder and Depp versions are owned by WB.

Awhile back ago I guessed Willy Wonka as one of my choices for the MIB mystery land. I wonder if that's it?!

Just throwing this out there since it has been mentioned recently - Could "Adult Trolley" mean the supposed monorail coming to the resort?
