Ehhhhhhh...I don't really think I like this choice.

I always felt that Affleck is pretty mediocre when it comes to acting. Argo would've been near-perfect if he didn't cast himself as the main character.

I've been a big fan of his recent movies like Argo and the Town. 2 of my favorite movies, honestly. He's way more qualified to direct this thing than Zack Snyder.

It's usually the actor that people hate that ends up being loved by all. I'll wait til more pics/vids comes out. So far, I sorta dig it.

I think the problem with fans is tolerance for stylistic variation. Although I'm not a die-hard comic book, I fan been a fan of other works, ie Harry Potter, were I let my perception of the books distort my judgement of the films. I've learned that things simply don't always translate between the mediums.

Micheal Keaton and Christain Bale had a "Batman" voice, and it makes perfect sense for the characters use of fear and his need to keep a secret identity. Of course this sort of thing would never show up in a comic book, which lacks audio, and an animated show for kids may want to keep the association between Bruce and Batman clear, as well as keep it family friendly. But in the case of the films, a voice change works to benefit this character of Batman as a funnel for his own emotional torment, turning Batman into a distinct entity of the Bruce Wayne persona.

And, on this note, I think Man of Steel took a stylistic approach to differentiate itself from 1975 version and it worked to the film's benefit. What's great about the film is you do get the impression that Superman is a hopeful believer in people and an idealist, but by challenging him with the question of which people, Kryptonian or humanities, he is forced to make a very black and white choice, while confronting his own demons and his own identity. In the end, I felt that it was a Superman film, not because he blindly fought for humanity, BUT because he was bounded to both Earth and Krypton and willing to defend them, and when something like Zod comes around, he is willing choose the greater good over his wants and needs.

Man of Steel was an average film, but it's style was solid and I think if done right Superman and Batman could be a fantastic film within the series.

EDIT: Ben Affleck? Yes! He's a better director, but probably the only A-list choice that would stand out on screen. His film's, specifically The Town, also tend to be stylistically within the same range as Nolan.

People hated Heath Ledger as The Joker when that was first announced. I think Affleck is truly underrated. He definitely does some paycheck movies that end up being **** i.e. Daredevil, but he's also been nominated for some awesome awards for his great acting. Mallrats, Good Will Hunting, Chasing Amy, Argo, and don't forget "Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms, yo."

So the real question now, is Matt Damon playing Robin?

Affleck is not the same actor from Mallrats. I am excited about this choice, and I think he will play a great older Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Affleck is a better director than actor. If they were going to go for an Affleck they could have at least gone for Casey Affleck  I'm not sure how he'll turn out but right now I'm not that excited about it.

Kevin Smith is probably soiling his pants right now. As for me, eh, I don't care for Ben Affleck. But, I can't stand Leonardo DiCaprio either, and I enjoyed Inception. Guess this is a wait and see.

Sums up my feelings perfectly.

I mean, I'll give him a shot and all, but I'm feeling very iffy about this casting.

He'll be fine in the role. There are many, many, many other things above Affleck on the "Wrong" list for this film

Eh, not really excited by this news, but I don't have much of an opinion otherwise since it's still early. Like BriMan said, I'll hold judgement until after I see some footage.

Even if Affleck blows it, which I'm confident he won't, WB has already created the worst possible Batman movies. Nothing will be worse than a Schumacher Batman film.

It's always a good thing when you have to pull out the old "well, it can't possibly be any worse..." card

He's definitely a much better actor these days. I think I like this decision. But I do wish he would step in and help write/direct this movie.

They shouldve gotten Joseph Gordon-Levitt...after his appearance in TDKR and people wigging out over what his role in it in the end was, it seems logical. I know he wasnt meant to actually become Batman, but neither was Ben Affleck...at least Levitt has a connection with the series.

Nolan's Universe is different than the DC Universe now.
