You have to finish one sequel before you can release two, three, or four. So, yeah.

I wonder how many sequels we'll see before Disney finish Star Wars Land.

Listen, I'm interested in seeing the next Avatar...but 4 more Avatar films? Ugh...He's so talented and RICH. He could literally do ANY script/Any movie/Theme/etc he wants...and this is how he wants to spend his golden years? I just don't know...

Right?
I could see them releasing two more Avatar films, but anything more seems like overkill. I highly doubt the sequel will do anywhere near as good as the original.

There's just no way he'll follow through with it. He's planned a LOT of projects that he's never followed up with. Battle Angel, Spiderman, The Dive, A Crowded Room, etc. The first draft I read of Avatar was dated 1995 back in 2000. It was a miracle he actually made it.

I wonder if Disney is pushing him (or persuading $$$) based off the investment they are making into the world of Avatar. It wouldn't surprise me at all.

Then again, it surprised me initially that Disney would invest so much into a world with such limited history.

Nah. I doubt it. He seems to be the type to do things on his own terms. I'm sure Disney is very happy by this news though.

Or are they? With the first one not set to drop until the end of 2018, Disney has to do the whole Avatar hype thing completely on their own next year. And they've got to go from 0 to 100.

Yeah, Disney's marketing department is so good they could make gold out of sewage. That's the strength of their company. Marketing is the one segment of Disney I never criticize since that are just that darn good. It's one area they are still far superior to Universal.

Oh, I agree with that. Just would've been nice if they had some help. Imagine if Universal had to drum up relevancy for Harry Potter all on their own 7 years after the franchise lay dormant.

Well I think the new land will be a big enough deal that it will draw lots of crowds when it opens regardless. The public is starving for new attractions/experiences at their resort.
Now Disney can look forward to 4 additional years of free press/marketing after the park opens.

I just wonder what will happen If Avatar 2, or 3, or 4 flops....do you still keep going?

How many stories could he possibly be dreaming up? My guess is that the Earth will eventually become inhabitable, and the story of Avatar will involve the great migration from Earth to Pandora and all the terrible things that happen in between.

I don't know if it flops, but I don't know if it comes anywhere close to what the 1st one did or even half that.

I liked Avatar but we all know, regardless of mostly positive reviews, most could agree that it wasn't a completely original story. The first one was a product of the hype of "THIS IS WHY 3D WILL BE THE FUTURE OF MOVIE WATCHING", the talk of his filming techniques & visual effects, and Avatar being Cameron's first release since Titanic. After the first ended, I wasn't leaving the theater yearning for more of the story of Jake and the Na'vi, so to make 4 more movies is beyond me....

Now in regards to the land, we all know Disney is going to hammer and milk this out in marketing with each respective release. Will the public roll eyes by the time Avatar 3 or 4 comes out and see a Disney "See Avatar 4 then experience it! Only at Disney's Animal Kingdom!' commercial?

No way does Avatar 2 flop. There's too much goodwill/hype from the first one. Like Star Wars, everyone's going to see it at least once.

I predict Avatar 2 will be a flop of epic proportions.

I think with a strong marketing campaign expanding the mythology of the series, it'll perform well, but it won't reach anywhere near the take of the original.
