And I guess this was after the BIG lump of money added to the original budget after the opening of Diagon Alley, perhaps a show of force or something. Almost 2 years after the opening of DA, we still waiting for this to open... and wait for the delayed opening day just like everything else. If lucky, we might get to see this project finished by the end of summer 2017 (after the delay, of course).

I really enjoy all the keyboard engineer talk about how creating realistic looking floating islands isn't a design challenge....

There is no doubt that Disney is spending way too much money on this....but last I checked they were raising your ticket prices anyway.

To say the parks aren't "profitable" due to their spending is just silly. As discussed numerous times, part of the reason these projects take so long is so that they can properly budget them with each fiscal year.

This WILL bring people to Animal Kingdom. If people still go ape**** over Christmas lights, the nighttime lighting will do wonders to the parks attendance. Regardless of whatever IP this is.

To be clear, I wasn't saying the parks weren't profitable. That's absurd. I was simply saying that there's been very poor budget-management lately.

It makes me wonder if this "going over budget" trend is a convenient situation for the top management. Pandora started with a budget and that budget was raised after DA. Now the project is going over budget like many others lately and STILL! there's no new attractions added to the original concept art... the only new thing was the river ride returning to the construction plans after being cancel for a bit. So the only 2 reasons I personally see for this happening again and again is 1. They are just awful at math, or 2. They are very, VERY good at math (if you know what I mean).

This "new budget after Diagon Alley" is new to me and one I don't think is new.

To my point earlier about construction progress.

The tallest floating rock, still not complete. That's been up for months now.

Even the exposed lifting beams are still mostly exposed.

I'm trying to figure out if there is a real design and assembly reasoning for this, or have they just not decided to complete it??

Perhaps it needs to be visible for inspection?

Overspending means more than likely less investment later on and projects being cut like TSPL, Star Wars, etc. (Disney can't cut as much with Avatar compared to Star Wars and any other property as they actually own those IPs and per contract Disney has to spend a set amount on Avatar per year blah blah blah)

The issue is planning. Like any big company, projects are more likely to occur and be successful when they've come in on time and on budget. Drastic cuts to a project or massive overruns cause issues with other current and future projects getting approved. If Disney can predict returns and costs they're more likely to build more thing.

Thanks
are we sure of the cost over runs?
are we sure the Pandora budget has cut into the DHS budget?
are we sure cuts have occurred to TSL and Star Wars?

Who knows. I sometimes wonder if these over run rumors are always put out there by Disney. Maybe they think if they look like they are spending a lot people will shut up about not offering enough :lmao:

In reality they are probably true, but maybe not accurate in the actual over runs. Unless you work in finance I doubt anyone will ever get the exact figures and in most causes it seems multiple numbers are floating around. I think the over runs are massive no matter what the number is, but I doubt we will ever know the actual number.

Personally I don't think the project has hit cost overruns RECENTLY. I think it has in the past. But I'm not sure at all.

I say MM+ and Shanghai has more to do with any DHS cutting back than Avatar. Just my informed $0.02.
