AMEN!

There is no park that feels as much like the true Christmas spirit in Orlando than SeaWorld. And Christmas Town at Busch Gardens same thing.

I'm about as far from being a religious person as you'll ever meet, but both parks really create CHRISTMAS, not just generic holiday and that's what makes them better at it. And I get it, both WDW and UO cater to an international clientele who they don't want to alienate with being too overtly religious, but it's Christmas that's really being celebrated.

Same here, I am very irreligious, but I like the Seawirld christmas spirit, maybe not the o wondrous night bit, but hey if people like it, then so what?

I just realized the word I wanted to use for SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Christmas events is "traditional". Classic Christmas music with instrumental groups and carolers. Lot's of the stuff you think of when you picture Christmas!

I don't think SeaWorld's Christmas dominance is because of religiosity. It's just that they go "all in". WDW half butts it. And Universal is just doing enough to be in the game.

Universal is good at going "all in". They just haven't turned their focus to the Christmas event yet.

Universal dominates Halloween and they could grab Christmas too.

And a fall weekend CityWalk event called "Hipster Fest: Craft Brews, Handcrafted Cocktails, and Artisan Apps" would be cool.

Of interest to you & Izzy, since you've both attended the park...At this week's Amusement Today "Golden Ticket Awards" held at Cedar Point, our local park, Kennywood, placed #4 worldwide for best Halloween Seasonal attractions and #5 for best Holiday Christmas Seasonal promotions. And their refurbed Noah's Ark (built in 1936) darkhouse won the award for "Best Funhouse/Walkthrough" attraction in the world. ...

Kennywood is a national treasure. The best traditional Amusement Park/Trolly Park left in America. There are others like Lakeside Park in Denver, but it can't touch Kennywood. The Jack Rabbit is by far the best old school woodie on the planet. The redo of Noah's Ark has put Kennywood back on my radar for a visit. And if they restore The Old Mill back to it's glory days, it will be my "vacation" that year. I love the story about how, when they built it, to make sure the grade of the trough was good they rolled a bowling out of the load platform and five mins later it rolled into the unload area. The Old Mill is the first "Tunnel of Love" ride ever built and Walt Disney rode it 12 years before he built "Pirates".

I really need a "Parks Road Trip". I think my trip will include Carowinds, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Kings Dominion, Kennywood, Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Dollywood.

Anyone want to do a ride along?

I know my way around KI pretty well (WV Native), but meeting awesome people is always a good thing.

And Skiers get extra awesome points. My family are Skiers. My brother has been a SkiBum at Jackson Hole for 25 years.

I got to go in the Noah's Arc on Labor Day, it was awesome!! Both kids had a blast at Kennywood. My youngest just loved Kiddie Land. I do have to say they are a little lax on height requirements in kiddie land, but in all honestly their height requirements thru out the whole park are odd. Like Jack Rabbit is 36" while Racer is 46" yet jack rabbit is faster, has a bigger drop, and they have one seat belt for both people while Racer has individual seat belts. I wasn't complaining about how lax they were since they let her on more than she was allowed. But everything she went on I knew she would be fine since she was seat belted in and she knows to hold on and not climb out. A product of growing up going to theme parks lol but I did laugh that the one ride she was the right height for seemed the most dangerous of all the things she went on :)

Wanted to add to what DHS said. What makes Kennywood so good and why theme/amusement park fans have to visit is the history of that park and everything that is still there. Everyone talks about the rides that must go to make room for the new and Kennywood has really managed to balance the new with the old. Some of the old rides used to be all over the place and now the last one exists only at Kennywood. And the best part is my daughters enjoyed the old ones just as much/if not more than the new rides.

One of the best old rides, and the only one of it's kind that still exists, are the autos next to the train. Even as an adult, I love that ride. Six coasters and they are all great, including that newest one that only takes up a couple of acres. That would be perfect for space starved Universal....As to the lax requirements, that kind of got them in trouble at their sister park, Idlewild. The reason that child got thrown from the smallish Blue Streak coaster last month was they let a very small child ride with their 7 year old sibling. Rules required a teenager or adult as a co rider, since there's no restraints on the coaster, short of a bar to hold on to. ........Yes, Kennywood is a one of a kind gem.....And, I still love the history of that piece of land, some of which is shown on the train ride. That's where British General Braddock forded the Monongahela River, and as soon as he crossed, his army was slaughtered by the French and Indian forces. The few remnants of the army, including George Washington, double backed through the Kennywood Park land area, as they ran from their attackers. They didn't quit running until they reached the top of the Laurel Mountains.

I agree. :)

The event's not even religious really, besides it being Christmas and that show. It is more traditional and the extent to which that is celebrated is what makes it true lot great.

Nah, that's in Kentuckey. The Noah's Ark attraction at Kennywood is an old school (1936) walk-thru funhouse type attraction.

The Wizarding World is also authentic in that it features locations shown in the movies and allows you to 'step into them'. Star Wars Land is a 'generically' star-warsy location not shown in the movies. I cannot understand this at all, it seems ludicrous to me.
I did the secret cinema Empire Strikes Back in London last year and they recreated Tatooine in an old factory to an incredible standard, it was like I was IN the movie. Sitting in the cantina drinking blue juice, surrounded by crazy creatures and with Han Solo & Chewie in the booth next to us was AMAZING!

I disagree. There's way too many locations in Star Wars, that choosing one would completely limit them. The only one remotely fleshed out enough to be able to an entire land is Tatooine, which is kind of a boring choice, both because of how obvious it is and how it's pretty much just a desert. Now doing a planet that's an combination of pretty much everything everybody loves about Star Wars both allows for much more creative freedom. They can have a cantina just like the one from A New Hope right next to a First Order Battle ride. That's compared to Harry Potter, which has two prime locations, both described in detail to the point where making just two lands based off them is easy and makes it feel complete.

Yes, we talked about the coaster issue. We all said no wonder why that happened. Which as a parent I would NEVER let my youngest ride with my oldest. When my youngest is 36" tall she will be riding with one of us on a coaster, not with big sis who would be 6 or 7. Coasters are a whole different thing over a small ground ride with a seat belt. Heck my oldest would be allowed to ride the jack rabbit on her own now (she is 46") and we all said, no way. Not happening. I let her ride Shamu on her own, but that thing is a kiddie thing. No way I let her ride Jack Rabbit where you fly out of your seat lol So I put some fault on the parents as they should have known better too. It takes FOREVER to load kiddie rides especially with no line since as they load the first couple more walk up and they open the gates and let those more in. So if at any point my youngest start squarming or thinking about doing something she should not have we would have pulled her off. The operator did pull off a kid who was freaking out and refused to hold on. So he was at least making sure kids were in the proper riding position.

And my favorite old school ride is the turtle. I love that thing even as an adult. Oh and having the whale back with the squishy tongue on Noah's Arc was awesome. We all enjoyed that.

Do people want to step into a Star Wars movie and visit the places they have known and loved since 1977 or are they really clamoring for a generic Star Wars-esque Land.

When Universal built Hogsmeade, they had to choose A location. They didn't build generic Potter-like land and throw the entire canon at it.

I don't think I am qualified to really talk about this, but Hogsmeade and the castle were a no brainer. I mean the first 4 movies that is where the main action occurs. Is there really a place like that for Star Wars? Is there a no brainer option? From talking with Star Wars people no one seems to come up with that one location they could use.

Tatooine, specifically Mos Eisley Spaceport on Tatooine is the obvious choice and includes everything that going into generic star wars land. So why don't they just build that?

I don't know. The main complaint I hear is that Tatooine is boring. I am not an expert on Star Wars, I just watched the first 3 movies a couple months ago. So as I stated I am not qualified. It just seems like when I hear people talk about it they can't pick a place or say Tatooine would be a boring land to look at.

It should be interesting how it plays out. Like will people like it? Will they hate it because it is not in the movie? Or will they not care because the GP will eat up anything SW?

I'll go with the GP eating it up because it's Star Wars. But the Star Wars fans will be less excited because this isn't a place they already love. The only location I have ever heard a Star Wars fan say they want to visit is Chalmun's Cantina and drink blue milk while listening to Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes. They won't be getting that. They will get some other cantina with a different band.

Jack Rabbit, though really ancient, is one of the best air time coasters anywhere, especially if you sit in the back. When I was a teenager the Turtle was my favorite ride in the park.
