In the category of attendance decline, there is still not a single date for Mickey's Halloween Party that has sold out yet. For the most part that is not unusual, except that last year Halloween sold out on August 3rd. Halloween last year was on a Saturday and this year it is on a Monday. That could have an effect.

Tracking this hard ticket event will be a good way of tracking how busy Disney is this year compared to last year. I am posting a link to the Touring plans page that has a list of the dates with when/if they sold out for the past few years.

OK, I promise to get back on topic after this. This was my family on the turtles...

I think Monday vs. Saturday is huge for a couple reasons.

First, people vacation weekend to weekend, so if they want to do the hard ticket event they probably vacationed the week before and go home and spend halloween at home.

The other reason is locals won't want to pull their kids out of school to go to the event nor will they want them up late at night and then try to get them to school the next day.

I'll go with the GP eating it up because it's Star Wars. But the Star Wars fans will be less excited because this isn't a place they already love. The only location I have ever heard a Star Wars fan say they want to visit is Chalmun's Cantina and drink blue milk while listening to Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes. They won't be getting that. They will get some other cantina with a different band.

I disagree once again. I'm a big Star Wars fan and the SWL we're getting interests me much more than getting just Tatooine. The majority of Star Wars fans I know tend to agree. It's still going to feel like you're entering the world of Star Wars, because it's going to have the atmosphere and "magic" that everybody loves about Star Wars. The same way TFA feels like something classic and Star Wars-y despite not having a single location from the OT. To each their own, I guess.

I don't think I am qualified to really talk about this, but Hogsmeade and the castle were a no brainer. I mean the first 4 movies that is where the main action occurs. Is there really a place like that for Star Wars? Is there a no brainer option? From talking with Star Wars people no one seems to come up with that one location they could use.

They should build the death star of course!

It just seems to me like if Universal had built the 2 Broomsticks Tavern in Frogsmeade Village.

It's the fact that they're being so ridiculously authentic with Pandora at the same time, even including the floating mountains etc.
Whether you're a fan of that movie or not, that's commendable.
Yet for Star Wars we get to visit the 'generic space port as not seen in the movies'.

The problem Disney has with Pandora, Star Wars, Toy Story, Muppets, etc (ad infinitum) is that none of those worlds are going to really give them the same kind of success that Universal has had with Potter when it comes to the complete package of selling food and merchandise. None of those environments (as immersive as they are) created the food and drink and things that people wanted to have the same way Potter did. Anyone who read the Potter books (or to a lesser extent saw the movies) wanted to try butterbeer and every flavor beans and so many other things that were described in great detail. So far the only food we've heard about from Star Wars is blue milk (which sounds revolting). Muppet pizza endorsed by a rat hardly sounds like something people will flock to. Will there be Mr Potato Head baked potatoes? Magic mushrooms in Pandora?

So far Disney's attempts to do similar things (grey stuff, Le Fou's Brew, drinks in traffic cones) have not exactly set the world on fire with sales after the initial duster wave of people who just HAD to have them.

If Universal had Star Wars, do you think we'd get Generic Star Wars land, or do you think they'd make multiple lands in multiple parks themed to different movie planets?

If people will happily eat a Krusty Burger, I don't think they will have a problem with rat pizza. Particularly if they can get Remy to give it a good review. And remember the whole place is run by a celebrity mouse.

Multiple lands in multiple parks themed to different movie planets. You got it! and, at least one of the lands would have been already finished. :)

A Universal Star Wars land would be a single tan soundstage with a poorly edited mashup of the 7 movies in 3D while your psycho seat causes lower back injuries.

And an exit shop and a meet and greet.

Oh wait! It's no longer 2005.

At this point, I'd rather they turn Future World into Star Wars Land than what they are doing to it.

It is stunning how bad both DHS AND Epcot are now. There is absolutely nothing at Epcot that I would pay to visit. And the only things at DHS I like are ToT and Star Tours. RnR is a nice filler. GMR is about as fun as a good root canal. And all of it is more expensive than ever.

I am shocked they are having attendance issues.

It was tough to find Epcot fastpasses even worth scheduling when I was there last fall. You could only do one of either Test Track or Soarin in column 1. So that left two fastpasses that it wasn't even worth using on anything since the lines for everything not in column 1 were short anyway. So there was no sense being corralled into a time. So, even though the three times I was at Epcot, I picked 9 total fastpasses, I only used three of them.

I always assumed that almost all of Future World architecture was inspired by the original Star Wars movie.

Since most of it was designed right after Star Wars came out in 1977, it's probably that it was at least partially inspired by the movie.

After looking at the locations in the first 2 Star Wars movies, (Tatoonie, Yavin 4, the Death Star, Hoth, Dagobah, Cloud City), I really don't see much exterior visual influence. Other than the 18 story Death Star smack dab in the middle. And a lot of the interiors look more like The Star Ship Enterprise than either the Millennium Falcon or the Death Star. What the original EPCOT Center did have down pat is that rather cold and sterile feel that comes from the monochromatic style of the late '70s SciFi/Space Fantasy films. In the '90s, they went in and "colorized" the place. It looks like Ringling Bros. did the set design on a new Star Trek film.
