TBH I think it's just not worth the cost for Universal. It's costly and a harder thing to market than an actual new attraction, and the current show isn't exactly pulling in large crowds anyways.I think part of the reason why they are no plans to do a new film right now has to do with the fact that animation is a long process and I am pretty sure the artists at Dreamworks would want their works to be shown for a substantial period time which would be several years (maybe a decade) to make it worth their while to create these attractions. I could see a new film in 2024-2025.
Replacing the Shrek 4D replacement with more Shrek when the experience would likely be similar to the original would be kinda weird, Puss in Boots would kinda fall under that. Bad Guys underperformed. I guess that leaves HTTYD, but with EU just around the corner, it'd be weird to have two fundamentally VERY different attractions based on the same property open around the same time. Trolls was wildly popular in the box office and in merchandising, is fresher and likely more relevant to kids, and would be tonally very different from KFP. I haven't seen the movie personally but at the very least it's easily recognizable to both parents and young children, and young children are probably part of the target demo for this attraction as it's one of the few in the park with no hight limit. That's just my take on it anyways, but again I don't think anyone should expect anything any time soonlol
If Trolls.....trolls gets a show when they have Shrek, Puss, HTTYD, Bad Guys and so on....just that sucks. Trolls is for one audience and rest are for everyone
