Yes, the walk from Portofino to the parks is a bit long for kids and non walking types. We do it often when we stay at Portofino since its relaxing and beautiful, but then, we are very fit people. If Cabana is about the same, I would say less than a couple percent would do the walk. We've never seen much foot traffic on the pathway when we've done it except for the bicycle transporters. People today would usually jump in their cars to drive three blocks instead of walking the distance. I do not see walkways as a viable mode to move a lot of people.

This paragraph is interesting:
It's the path guests at Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort, which is under construction, would take to walk straight to the gate for Universal's Islands of Adventure.

um, is IOA getting a back entrance for this resort?

I think it's just mis-worded. There's only a sidewalk on that side of the road. Sounds like this bride will deposit guest onto that sidewalk. Then guests will have to walk from the bridge to the main entrance.

I guess anything is possible though. Couple this with rumors to build on the JP expansion plot and it easily could be a back gate, but I don't think it's likely.

And... it would make it the closest hotel to the WW on property. Mercy, this is such a smart yet dicey move; Cabana. I feel confident they have most of it thought out.

Aside from the fact that I just don't like the idea of secondary gates, because they undermine the design and intended experience of the theme park... This is supposed to be the value resort, with less perks than the other resorts. I don't think it makes any sense opening a gate, specifically for the convenience of the CBBR guests. Makes more sense for the bridge to go over the street and onto the existing sidewalk that goes to CityWalk, and have these guests enter the parks like every other guest. (As I put it on the bridge thread: I think the bridge will connect the sidewalk outside the CBBR to the sidewalk on the other side of Hollywood Way, which already goes towards CityWalk, meets the PPR's walk-way, and then enters CityWalk from the side of Margaritaville. (Map) They would still need to do more work, put a fence and vegetation to separate the sidewalk from the road, especially HERE.)

Is it possible that CBBR guests would walk over the bridge and then connect to some new form of tram or transport that then takes takes them to the main gate?

That form of transportation appears to be in the form of a sidewalk. :blank:

Works for me. But that looks to be about a mile walk. Just saying could be an issue for some.

Those Pedicab guys are going to make a killing....

Why are there people here who want to walk a mile to just get to CityWalk like what's wrong with you :inquisitive:

I'm not saying I would like it. At all. But if in fact a bridge across a major intersection is all that is going to be done so that tourists can walk along the perimeter of IOA, then that is the reality we are dealing with.

Endless discussion about ski lifts and extending the waterway is pointless if in actuality Uni is going, "Screw it, let the city build a bridge and we can check guest transportation to CBBR off of the to-do list."

But no, I don't personally like it.

It's not going to be just walking. There will be shuttles or something. There's no way it will solely be walking.

That's what I'm thinking. The demographic for this new Resort is families, right. More specificallym families with 3-4 kids. That walk could be a huge headache (not to mention a potential safety hazard) for those with small children.

Also, walking along a busy highway with cars whizzing by sort of takes away from the whole Resort experience, imo.

Isn't there some kind of service road behind the IOA show buildings (but within the gates and relative safety & control of IOA) that they could clean-up and theme as a walkway/tram-way?

Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
