Honestly, the WedWay Peoplemover system that Walt envisioned in the original EPCOT plans looked pretty darn efficient...

Capacity. I believe it's been stated that Cabana Bay will have more rooms than any other Universal Onsite Hotel (please correct me if I'm wrong). Because of this and the pricing, more guests will be staying at Cabana Bay than any of the other on site hotels. Because Cabana Bay will be the farthest away, and because there will be more guests traveling from Cabana Bay to the parks, then it will take a lot of time to transport guests, therefore testing their patience. It also means that Universal will have to spend more for fuel, and possibly buy another boat and hire more drivers. Or, they could replace the boats with a fleet that has a higher capacity.

I think this is exactly the reason why. You are right. There will be far too many people with transportation needs that the boat system would not be able to absorb. Even if it was doubled.

What is that odd scaffolding picture... looked like a double staircase or the peak of a roof...

You can see in this crop of the full size image that the rise of the stairs is not high enough to reach the next deck. Therefore, they place the first run up to an landing platform the brings you onto a step somewhere on the next run. This way the top landing will be inline with the following deck.

This makes a lot of sense why the lagoon will never connect to Cabana Bay, which is a same. I think peoplemover would be amazing, but if Universal wants something that is cost-efficient and eco-friendly, I would go with DH's idea of a sky ride type of system that you see on skiing mountains.

See, I think this is by far the best answer. They already have a relationship with Doppelmayr (Hogwarts Express), who is one of the world's leaders in cable gondolas. And these gondolas are cheap to build, cheap to operate, and high capacity.

I know a few have mentioned cables ruining site lines, but I really like this idea.

Alton Towers have a fantastic Skyride system which I don't think is that much of a blight on the landscape. Here you can see them going over AT famous gardens, the view up there is beautiful

Towers Times

Beats buses and the views would be amazing. Once installed they're cheap to run and better for the environment, win win in my book.

What do you guys think?

I don't see that happening. For one, maintenance becomes an issue. Two, high winds -which become common oftentimes in Florida would have the thing shut down...and at times that would become a nightmare.

That's an excellent point. The Skyway at MK was down often due to that and the common Florida storms. Someone mentioned they could do a Peoplemover type transportation system, and that would work if they covered it up.

:P but that would require tourists to be logical about something. "Oh it's only a 5 minute walk and so there's no transport? Okay, that makes sense - let's just walk." If they did that it would be more like "I paid all this $$$ to come here and now I have no way to get to the parks? What do you expect me to do - put one foot in front of the other?!" People already complain about there not being transportation between the two parks (which, you know, Universal is currently fixing that issue...) they would scream to high heaven if Universal wasn't going to provide a ride of some type to Citywalk.

They could install moving walkways / sidewalks for part of it. That way people could just stand. You know, ignoring the "walk" part of the name.

The walk from CBBR to CityWalk would be about half a mile, 10 minutes long. I've walked from CityWalk to the RPR before, which is a similar walk in length, and it wasn't that bad. But, after a long day of walking at the parks, or if you're not an active morning person... it's not preferable  I mean, I can do it, but I'd rather not :P

Also, from the CBBR you'd have to cross Hollywood Way, which is quite busy, and walk all along it to CityWalk. This is probably also not ideal for people with children. From the RPR to CityWalk, you're waling along a secluded path that's never directly on a road. So I think they will have to do something for those electing to walk from the Cabana Bay to CityWalk.

Then, who knows, maybe in a few years we'll get the themed water park, and the CBBR can be connected to the water theme park, which can be connected to the RPR, and we can use the RPR's existing walk-way to City Walk, if that's not too complicated

With kids/strollers and older folks in the mix there will have to be some sort of transport. CBBR will be tied with Portofino Bay as most remote on-site.

yeah i see the gondolas being a major problem. With hurricanes, bad weather, etc, i just feel like it would be a pain in the butt to deal with.

With 2 infants we usually walk from RPR to IOA or CityWalk instead of waiting for the water taxi. Though probably would wait for water taxi to go to USF. I think for the money people will be saving the walk from CBBR won't be so bad though I am curious to see what kind of path UOR creates for that resort or if it will be only a shuttle for access to the parks.

That is a deceptively long walk! I took a stroll the morning I went to get pictures of Bumblebee at 7am since I had yet to see Portofino Bay and had a good hour and a half to kill after I got my shots. Needless to say, I was not doing the return walk and took the boat back to CityWalk.
