Dead Exposure: Death Valley (HHN 2024)

My major question on this one is what it can do to stand out, or be unique. Zombies are pretty generic, and even the military base/experiment gone wrong angle is a bit generic. I hope that the Death Valley part is more than just a title pun - it would be neat to see zombies breaking out of the base and into desert scenes.

The graphics the HHN insta teased had "green toxic ooze"...

As far as the "Dead Exposure" title goes, i knew this was going to be a "thing". So the best way I translated it to make it fit with the sequels is:

DE 2008 = Camera Exposure
DE 2018 = Exposure to the virus
DE 2024 = Exposing the truth of the secret labs (or Exposure to the radiation) ...pick one lol

It's the only way to simplify it because it just isn't that deep. But I do love the zombie designs & Murdy said this is going for "intense scares". It could be beyond terrible, but I'm tentatively hyped.

Honestly. As someone who LOVED 2008's DE, I dislike the use of the Dead Exposure name for this. Being a Hollywood house, I would've preferred the "Toxic Tunnel" branding since all 3 iterations were "toxic mutated zombies".

The whole super soldier gimmick reminds me of Orlando's "HAVOC" house(s). "Havoc: Death Valley" probably would've made more sense context-wise. I'd have still chosen Toxic Tunnel.

*sigh* eitherway, I still look forward to this house. The premise is good & sounds like it'll offer a decent variety in zombie scares. I appreciate the inclusion of concept art.

I have to say, I'm not really digging the whole exposed brain gimmick we're seeing with all the zombies, I can understand not wanting to evoke viral infectious zombies but I feel like theres gotta be a better way to show theyve been experimented on than giving every single one a big cartoon brain, at a certain point I kinda wish they would've Tetsuo'd it up a bit and given a bit more variety in terms of chunky sci-fi electronic bits sticking out of them, but maybe I'll eat crow if there's more to it we just haven't been shown.
I can agree that it's kinda weird to give it the Dead Exposure name but honestly idk if I could handle it being called something like ToXXXXic Tunnel: Super Soldierz or something, I just wouldn't ever be able to say that with a straight face lol.

Looking at the pix, this has partly solidied my fear that this will be this year's most basic and generic maze. The cast is gonna have to kill it on this one.

as someone who advocates hard for originals, this concept just seems very….eh. It feels generic. Sounds like it’s going to confirm my suspicion of this being a “less colorful” Black Sabbath rehash from 2013.

As I said before... this is going to either be really good or really bad. Not likely an in-between.

I'm curious about the soundtrack. And also the "show lighting".

All the different facilities listed makes me feel like they could've just made this your typical sci-fi Area 51 roswell alien themed house.

Conceptually it was very generic, I think in the case of Dead Exposure people are probably referring more to the types of scares we've seen in the concept art, limited as they are.

lol, I’m on the opposite end. Thought the house sounded terrible, but the concept art has garnered my interest.

The organ harvesting table victim made me sigh. I'm tired of seeing it. It's not an actual scare technique (unless there is a scareactor placed across from it to get the actual scare while you're distracted). For me, "show scenes" like this are just lazy filler & don't always help the storytelling. It's cheap.

That zombie gorilla scene not included, I still have high hopes for this being great. Maybe we'll get a random animatronic zombie puking in a toxic barrel.

Saw some of the BTS photos SoCal Exploring posted.

Gonna be real….its kind of what I expected. It feels a little generic. Hopefully it will be better than expected because I’m not exactly overwhelmed with what I saw.
