Well before we go any further lets also give credit where its due and say Universal has greatly improved show standards and this may be a non issue.

Agreed. As Despicable Me is a centerpiece of the theme park's 2012 marketing campaign (and apparently a fetish of Universal at large lately, since it's plastered on absolute everything [note - not complaining, it was a great movie]), chances are good they'll take extra care to ensure it's in top condition for (at the very least) the first years of its operation.

After that, it's anyone's guess how long show standards will last... but it can't be worse than Mummy. (And for that matter, we're purely speculating on potential show problems. We aren't talking about a super complex A-100 here.)

Hey guys I was at the park today so I snapped a few pictures (please excuse the quality). Gift shop was open so I got some in there as well.

Some of the posters on the outdoor queue:

It looks like they're putting up paneling which will probably separate the Express Queue:

I'm guessing this is where riders will exit from:

I still wish the whole queue would have been put indoors, but what's there looks great.

I somewhat agree, but the last thing that part of the park needs is more walls. At least an open queue adds some depth and layers to an otherwise flat part of the park.

Queue Video (Mostly just recycled footage from the film cut with some narration over it)

Also snapped this one on Sunday:

Could this be related to the oil spill?

I cannot imagine they would set something leaking oil on new and pretty concrete in a queue. It would permanently stain it. ANYBODY: Is that a worthy prop display?

Well the barrel is sitting on top of something else so I don't think it would touch the concrete if does contain oil. And I got a closer look at it and it doesn't look like any sort of prop, its kind of random in the middle of the queue and serves no purpose.

It'd shorten the width of the queue and not meet ADA standards, so no. Almost every new attraction and park is set to those standards, but I'm sure you know that. :sneaky:

Yes, this is more than likely related to the oil spill. The funnel on the drum appears to be a safety funnel with fusible link used for oil and other flammable liquids. When the lid on the funnel is secured open it will automatically close if a certain temperature is reached. Although, I would thik that Universal would use a non-flammable fluid. The drum is sitting on an overflow containment receptacle (aka - spill pallet). This prevents any overflow from contaminating the environment. Or in this case from staining the concrete.

I also saw this on Saturday and my wife told me I should take a picture. I did not. Oh well.

Like the FJ queue, I could not tell from a photo where the queue rails actually start/end or where this object might inevitably be placed.

And you do not find it screeching odd that they would place it on new concrete within bars of a queue?

If it is a prop, it wouldn't be placed there in the first place. Do I find it odd? Yes, but maybe it'd necessary that they put something there for the time being. Would I put a tarp down before putting a collection unit there? Yes.

I must admit it is in a strange location. Although I would not be concerned about spilling oil, that's what the spill pallet is for. If technical services cannot handle the oil without spilling it we have bigger issues.

I doubt this one rig leak could have haulted all preview rides for the employees as someone said earlier. It has to be more major than that. Or maybe they just take extreme safety measures, who knows?

It's sitting in the middle of switch backs. Something is leaking, and it's being caught in the funnel into the barrel. If the barrel overflows (they probably don't know how much is leaking) then the barrel is sitting on top of another reservoir. We use those all the time at my work to catch oil.

"Given where it is, it seems it would be something directly above that funnel that is leaking. So what is usually overhead in a theme park outdoor queue that could be leaking?"

"Flatscreen!"

"no"

"Ummm, lights?"

"No."

"BATS!"

"No!"

"Uh huh! Bats do to leak!"

"No,...well, yes, bats do leak. But I am pretty sure they don't have a 55 gal. drum because of leaking bats."

"Ummm, ok......oh, oh those mister fans. One of those could be leaking."

"Mmmmm. Could be."

Thank you for tuning into Insane Internet Guy Theater. Join us tomorrow night for a lively debate with myself over Popcorn VS Churros.

They updated the attraction main sign today. It now features minions within the sign itself. Didn't get any picture though. :(

It doesn't feature the minions on the sign as said above, but this video show the tons of little minions they've added to the side of the soundstage on ladders and shimmying up the pipes:

'Went to the park today and saw alot of interesting things. Camera died earlier in the day though.

Here's the new minions on the sign, and yeah, the wires have LED's and light up at night. It's pretty amazing.

Here's the after ride area (dance party area?), saw a pretty wide opening and snapped a picture.
