Usually when an attraction starts up there are waves of ride operators sent in to safety test the attraction and get the operations down before employee preview night, followed by softs.

I guarantee you that there is still a month to go before it opens for actual riders.

yep. it means the physical ride is done. just got to fine tune those employees haha

The negative part of me that is sick of simulators wants to say "the ride BETTER be done already. how long does it take to program some damn moving chairs in front of a screen?"

But the positive part of me wants to say "I'm so happy we're adding to our ride count here in Hollywood :)" haha

Long. Look no further than the programming headaches at Gringotts and Forbidden Journey. Fine tuning takes the longest in these attractions.

I compare DM to Simpsons more than Shrek.  Shrek is a theater, but DM has a semi wrapped screen with multiple vehicles bouncing to the same screen.  The only difference with Simpsons, is that you aren't supposed to know you are sharing screens with someone else.

I have a feeling that Shrek is not getting any love at the moment because it is in the way of the overall plan.  Allow the attraction to finish its days until Potter comes and then get rid of it!  Anby getting rid of it, I mean tear down the building and start new.

Hopefully it "accidentally" sets itself on fire. It's just so awful and stale now it's sad.

BTW TM softs are happening March 12th with AP softs happening around the 26th. Also, walls are coming down in a couple of weeks once they finish little things like putting curtains in the neighbor's windows.

I would expect Public soft opening to happen the day after employee preview night.  Keep your eyes open!

Closing Shrek would be expanding an already clustered and confusingly massive construction site with Potter/Springfield. I too think they should wait until potter is open.

AP softs never fail to make me laugh. "Yeah, the ride's been open for softs for nearly two weeks now but this one's special for annual passholders only! Yay!!"

But sounds like March 13th would be an ideal day to head to USH, guys.

I'm also hearing that there's double of everything. Two glasses/salad bar rooms, two laboratories and two ride-rooms. Dance party is before the ramp like everyone thought. The only hazy part is the two living rooms.

*sigh* I'm well aware, trust me. Done a lot of studying on the ins and outs of simulator type attractions. I was just trying (failing) to be funny by poking fun at simulators since we have so many.

Also, I wouldn't even dare compare the programming of Gringotts and FJ to Minion Mayhem.....one is sationary simulator cars in front of a screen, the other two are complex hybrid (and brand new) ride systems on a track that have to be timed with physical effects, props, screens, etc. Not saying programming Minion Mayhem is easy. I just wouldn't bother comparing it to the beasts that are the two Potter E Tickets :P

Gosh, that can't come soon enough! I do agree that it'll happen after Potter. Unfortunately it probably won't be torn down until 2017 at latest IMO. They'll want as many things open as possible in 2016 for Potter's opening to soak in the crowds, even something as stale as Shrek.

Anyway, yeah, March 13 sounds like a good day to visit the park :) Happy I have my new AP already.

If this is indeed true, this thing might be a people eater. IIRC the ride in Florida has a paltry capacity somewhere between 1K and 1500, so doubling it is an absolute boon.

I love that they built salad bars which once again will not be actually used until years into its existence.

Well I'm not sure about the actual salad bars but I had it confirmed that there was two of every room and that the line splits with "grouper" which I'm guessing happens before we go into the old Kimberly room. Hopefully I heard everything correctly as there were a lot of operations terms being thrown around.

The grouper is the one who deviates the different groups into lines to make the sure the ride is filled to capacity. So I assume there will be a regular queue portion, to which they meet the groupers who decide which lane you'll be waiting in. It's a far more streamlined version of the queue for The Simpsons Ride. The problem with Simpsons is that they separate the floors. On a two-dome day, they're only able to group at max 48 people once you reach that portion of the queue. And with gate A's, that becomes even more pitiful. After the 48, it's probably another five minute wait. That is absurdly atrocious and is why it feels like forever.

Here, they're simultaneously loading around 90 on one side, and 90 on another. A nice 180 total...much better than 48! It's about a four minute wait between pre-shows, so it'll go by much quicker, guaranteeing a better line flow and more guest satisfaction. As far as Universal is honestly concerned, once you're inside Gru's living room holding your glasses, you're on the "ride". So this is really fantastic.

This is fantastic for Universal. This major increase in capacity thanks to having the second ride room is almost like a whole extra new ride, right? One thing is for sure though for me: I'm gonna be very picky about where I sit. I'm gonna request a good car each time if possible.

Speaking of, for those who have been on the ride in Florida, how does that work in terms of which car you get? Is it based on which row in line you're placed in, similar to Simpsons, or is it like Shrek and T23D where it's every man for himself once you get in the ride room? Lol

It's by row. Each group of eight goes down furthest and piles into the cars like so.

I have to imagine for a good spot you'll probably have to hope you're in the middle of the lane.
