Whatever it is, it looks very inviting and cozy. I want one! As for Jock's, I don't get the hate. I understand that it was likely a quick change, but I'm down to give it a try one of these days.

The Indiana Jones bar. Yeah that's what most say.

Anyway, the Edison will have some cool features since it'll be the massive underground bar/restaurant. I just hope it's not a operations issue and gets used!

To help make understand what the Twitter talk is about, Disney announced 13 new Retail and Dining establishments. The Edison is one of them and the one fans at the very least are the most excited about. Here's what they announced (most will go in the Town Center, where the PI parking lot used to be):

RETAIL

Zara
Tommy Bahama
Lilly Pulitzer
UNIQLO
PANDORA
UGG
L’Occitaine en Provence
Edward Beiner

DINING

Edison
Sprinkles
Blaze Pizza
Vivoli Gelateria
Tea Traders by Joffrey’s Tea

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...o-disney-springs-at-walt-disney-world-resort/

I believe the rumor was The Edison is going where The AC currently stands. Not sure if that's still true or what.

Very much so. I don't personally care for the brand, but much of the world's population lives in colder weather climates. I see your location says Bronx, NY. I assume you've seen them more than I out in public given I live in Florida. Going up to the North East this past winter, the amount of people wearing them stood out like a sore thumb to me. And just think, from Ugg's POV, a lot of people from colder weather climates visit WDW each year and i'm not just talking the US, I more mean internationals with money to blow.

Overall it's not a bad start to their retail line-up in Town Center though. Most places are very unique to WDW or hard to find in the area, The Edison is a great addition and there's a few nice quick service locations going in (which are much needed in Disney Springs).

I used to see them more like 7 or so years ago, worn by high school girls, than I do now. Either I'm just not paying attention anymore or there simply aren't that many people wearing them here. I think people wear more heavy duty boots during the winter months. NYC slush/ice will destroy a pair of Uggs. Imagine my surprise when I learned we have 4 Ugg stores in Manhattan, 2 of which are in very fashionable neighborhoods. Does SoHo and Madison Ave mean nothing anymore?! Oh well, at least Hurricane Sandy destroyed a Croc store. At least something good came from that.

Well Manhattan has always been very fashion forward. Uggs aren't necessarily meant to be worn outside shoveling snow, but inside when it's 10 degrees out and your feet are freezing.

Parts of Manhattan are very fashion forward, that's why having a Ugg store in the Fashion District is a sin. For indoor use, fine, but if you can afford $200 boots, you can surely afford an apartment with heat. But now we're getting into my distain for ugly things people put on their feet and as much as I would love to turn this into a UniversalFreak Rants About Meaningless Stuff thread, I don't think anyone else would enjoy that

Either way, we'll see how well the store does. Clearly they are trying to attract tourist who live in colder places, but speaking for myself, buying fur lined boots in 95 degree Florida to cram into a suitcase next to my theme park t-shirts and my Harry Potter wand doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather just buy my overpriced boots at home around the time in which I need them. I think it would be better for Disney to open up shops that can serve both tourists and locals year round.

Hey, listen, I don't like or wear them, i'm just saying I still can see why than can be seen as fashionable in some sense. When you have people like Tom Brady and Taylor Swift walking around in them, it does a lot to boost the image and, especially with Taylor Swift, who has a lot of people who want to emulate her, things like that help, whether the things look good or not.

They do more than just the boots, including sandals and flip flops, which I imagine this store will be pushing more than the boots.

eh, i'd say it may depend on the time of year. If it's winter, they're going to push the boots just as much as sandals (even if it's 82 in FL) seeing as many of the vacationers will be from cold weather areas.

I'm starting to realize that DTD is a theme park without any attractions. It's genius. Give nothing but revenue centers, sprinkle in sparse entertainment here and there, and no one notices it's just an outdoor mall where everything is a little more expensive than you can find it at home. There is no doubt the atmosphere is great and the new transformation is a welcome addition. But, it's just a theme park with no rides.

That's a pretty serious line-up. Uniqlo is a store I'd definitely hit up.

I'm not sure anyone goes to DTD and expects rides. If you're going to DTD, you're going to spend money. You could be doing anything from going to eat, shop, see a concert, bowl, watch a movie or a cirque show, but you're spending money. They've never hidden that.

And you may not be used to lifestyle Centers like these, but stores like Uniqlo, Lilly Pulitzer, Zara, L'Occitane and Edward Beiner are all stores that, while if you live in Major metropolitan areas you may have one, they are high class and sparse throughout the country and fairly common in malls like this one. They will charge more because it's what they are worth. The Boathouse is also fully justified in it's prices given quality. STK, Morimoto and The Edison are also great additions to that line-up. Yes, you will shell out some cash. Yes, the experience and quality should match considering their reputations.

Sure places like World of Disney is overpriced (and all of the Disney owned stores). They are the only places I can say the price doesn't match quality. But they are EXPANDING World of Disney because it's so busy. Disney gets away with ridiculous prices, but so does Uni. Spend some time in their store in CityWalk sometime and tell me price matches quality on the majority of things. The Potter merch is cool, but I wouldn't buy most of what I buy if I didn't have a TM discount. Comcast preys on the people who nerd out over IPs just as much as Disney does. They just don't have the room to build a huge lifestyle center.

Friday was told an hour, wasn't even 15 minutes. Turn-over is remarkably quick--most casual guests are staying for one drink then leaving. Also, outside getting a little better at anticipating when their guests will be buzzed.

Then clearly you don't live in a country with a VAT (value-added tax). Or import fees for American-made goods.

Other than the week before school starts, every time I go to the outlet malls, I don't hear another soul speaking American-accented English. It's all about the international guests. These shops in Disney Springs will be much the same. And frankly, it's overdue--Disney has been letting a large chunk of guests go off-site for far too long now. Whether DS can truly compete with the massive outlets and Millenia is yet to be seen, but this makes the same sense PI made when Church St. Station was the #3 attraction in Florida.

Agreed on the quick-serve, tho probably could use something more substantial than just the one pizza place. But it's a start.

Not sure who the audience for Edison is. Too pricey for locals, too hipster for convention-goers and parents, and no Disney fanboi link. I could see this getting lost in the shuffle (which is why I assumed it had quietly gone away).

I actually think it will be the perfect place for Conventioneers. It's not going to be a direct replica of LA's. A place where a large group of people can lounge, have some drinks and talk is perfect for conventions. It doesn't matter if it's potentially perceived as "hipster" if The Edison markets itself to that group right. Once people start to come there and realize what the place is, they will get repeat business on future conventions.

I do think STK is potential big competition for Edison though as they mentioned having a lounge included, which will be much more chic, which may appeal more to conventioneers than a '20s themed lounge.

I don't. I live in New York.

I don't think it will be like the LA version, but instead much more watered down to fit families. Personally, I'd love to visit the real one in LA, as it seems just my style. I'm interested to see if Disney will create a version that I'd be interested in visiting.
