It doesn't shock me they are doing something with Planet Hollywood. We were down there about a month ago and the outside looked pretty bad. With the new Disney Springs it looked old and stuck out like a sore thumb. So it needed re-done.

Did they ever say what they are doing with Disney Quest? I've been out of the loop on this expansion.

Disney Quest is becoming The NBA Experience.

NBA Experience will open at Downtown Disney - Orlando Sentinel

I've taken the liberty to insert random squiggly lines so I can pretend like I know something everyone else doesn't.

The red outline in the top left is the new fifth park being built. Sshhhhhh

Also, those yellow outlines areas are the new Marvel land thanks to Disney buying the Orlando locale rights from Universal. Ssshhhhhhh

Don't tell anyone. ;)

I'll probably see this quoted on WDW Magic by jubilant Disney fans. :ears:

How is WDW planning on supporting this much additional shopping and dining? It seems over the top to me.

The current new restaurants are all doing very well and the shops will mostly be high end, top of the line stores like Zara, Lilly Pulitzer, UGG, etc, etc.

Lots of foreigners go to the Premium Outlets and buy a lot while in Orlando. As crazy as it may seem, there's plenty of demand for this type of stuff.

Yep. There will definitely be places that don't succeed, but that's how malls work. You figure out what succeeds/fails and build on that.

My fear is failure is assumed to be because people only want DISNEY MAGIC and lots of unique things are replaced with INSERT SAME THING AVAILABLE AT EACH PARK.

The marketplace Co-Op is sort of a testing ground for themed merch/non-generic stuff and it is doing very well.

Because the merchandise sales results from Hogsmeade weren't convincing enough.

I am not sure why anyone thinks more shopping and places to eat will fail. The waits at places to eat are crazy high already. The shops are crowded as anything. And prior to the garage finding a parking space was a nightmare. This place was busting and still is busting at the seams. Yes, some stores and places will fail like any mall, but those stores will close and be replaced with something the people want.

Primarily because I saw numerous businesses close at DTD in the previous decade. Note that I went mostly in the daytime and on many days it was dead as a door-nail. Especially the west side. I will concur that the restaurants on the east side were almost always backed up with lines except the fake boat.

I don't think anyone has ever suggested the "kids" restaurants at DTD don't pull a crowd. However, the idea that the "adult" restaurants are always packed is just flat-out wrong. From someone who was there Thanksgiving Eve. And they're adding more.

Meanwhile, Earl of Sandwich, the last affordable quick-serve left, has lines out the door. That's the target market here.

They are adding quick-service options as well. Quite a few actually.
