I hate the name Disney Springs for an area full of nightlife, dining, and entertainment. I really wish they'd just keep it Downtown Disney.

Screamscape is saying that Planet Hollywood will be staying when the Disney Springs project is completed. That makes me happy as I've always enjoyed eating there when possible. However, they mention that they may change the name and go through an extensive makeover.

http://screamscape.com/html/walt_disney_world_resort.htm#DisneySprings

Good news for fans of Downtown Disney’s Planet Hollywood. According to Screamscape sources who spoke with some anonymous Planet Hollywood peeps the big globe restaurant will be getting an extensive makeover sometime during the next year or so, along with a slightly new name… but it will still essentially be the same Planet Hollywood you’ve come to know, with the same popular menu items.
From this we assume that the structure will be visually transformed to appear less globe-like, and look more like a large themed observatory building instead. I’m also going to guess that the new name for the restaurant may be something along the lines of ‘The Observatory at Planet Hollywood”. Which I actually kind of like to idea of an Observatory theme for a Planet Hollywood restaurant… after all you are there to gaze upon “the stars” are you not? As for the food… it’s nice to know you can still get your fix of Captain Crunch Chicken in Orlando.

this. if anything change it to something that screams entertainment rather than cutesy, cause if they follow through with the concept art then this place will be AWESOME.

So I'm not being smart when I say this, I'm seriously just out of the Disney loop is all. But what's the chances of this project actually happening?

Its amazing to see the two companies disparate methods regarding new projects.
Disney announces it, releases concept art and then doesn't build it.
Universal builds it, announces it and then doesn't release concept art.

I don't think anything has even been announced by Disney themselves. All of this is rumors/leaked info and concept art.

Does anybody actually think that art is legit? It just doesn't look like anything Disney has produced in years.

This is all legit as far as I can tell. I would be expecting an announcement next month during that event they were supposed to have back around the NFE and Test Track opening but postponed. It definitely fits with some stuff I've heard whispers of. I really like the concept, personally. I know most are of the mind that it looks like your typical outdoor lifestyle center, but then the Disney Village was that before people knew what an outdoor lifestyle center was. Also, we all know how ridiculously crowded the malls and outlet malls in Orlando are with the international travelers, and Disney understandably wants to capture some of that cash flow (and maybe have less regret about paying more because they didn't have to spend money on a cab to get there). If this plan doesn't get slashed too much (or changes too radically, there are still a few other versions with the same general theme/feel), I think it will be a great change. There are rough edges and areas to make improvements, but it is much better than what it has been for the better part of 5 years or so.

I'll say, if they put an Apple store and/or other electronics retailers, they will have a HUGE cash cow in their hands. Knowing a lot of people--family, friends, acquaintances--that come from abroad, they drop big bucks on electronics from iPhones to laptops and cameras, etc. The price difference is huge (much more inexpensive and accessible here in the US), so they really go all out shopping for this things. The last family friend we had over took home an unlocked iPhone 5, a Kindle Fire, a new digital camera, apart from a bunch of clothes and other stuff. And previously, I've known people who've come from abroad on vacation and gone back home with new laptops, PS3s, and even an HDTV!

So, there's a humongous opportunity in that. I only wish Uni would decide to put some similar stores in CityWalk

All legit plans. Has more of a shot of happening than probably anything we're talking about for the parks, as well.

I don't have a problem with some of it, though making it nothing more than a Disney mall is so boring and uninspired. Trader Sam's is the only worthwhile thing to get me coming back to it.

Pretty sure that was a list of proposed/potential/"dream" tenants. Would be sweet, but like a lot of people, I'll believe it when I see it.

I honestly think it's a shoe in. Cheaper to run than the AC ever was and the DLR version makes boat loads of money.

Even if it's not at DTD, I think Trader Sam's will end up at WDW at some point in the near future.

Agreed. But still not as much money as 8-Traxx I'd bet. I really think TDO wanted out of the club business (as well as the restaurant business and the shop business to the extent possible) and I still have a hard time believing they'll jump back in.

I could see a value-engineered version as part of the Poly DVC, as was rumored.

But Sam's isn't a club. Far from it. It's really just a bar/grill type setup. And it'd be VERY hard to value engineer something like Sam's. It's incredibly simple. Effective, but simple.
