This is the way it should be. Game of Thrones, Unfortunate Events, and His Dark Materials have shown that the best way to adapt books now is through television, where you get the budget of a movie without having to sacrifice storylines (*cough*Potter!*cough*).

And if done right, this can be a real winner for Disney since they have five seasons to work with plus the sequel series.

While I would have preferred an animated TV series, I'm thanking god that it won't be another movie series. The movie adaptations by Fox were disgusting.

I definitely think Percy Jackson is one of those weird niche IPs, sort of like Artemis Fowl, that has a very loyal following from the books and I think the story will translate much better to a TV series than it did to movies.

Artemis likely would’ve made a better TV series too from the looks of the trailer.

I’d be way quicker to put Percy in the Category of Divergent or Hunger Games before Artemis.

I agree on that, much bigger fan base. The point though was to compare it to Disney’s upcoming Artemis Fowl movie, which doesn’t look all that great and much like Percy, can probably have been told better through a TV series.

Kevin Mayer is now leaving D+ to become head of TikTok, as Rebecca Campbell (former president of Disneyland Resort) will be succeeding Kevin Mayer for Head of Streaming.

Kevin Mayer will lead the Chinese-owned app for making and sharing short videos, which has exploded in popularity during the pandemic.

...while I hate being a debbie downer, I hope this means we see more shows and projects greenlit without as much issues for the service..

I think his biggest failing with Disney+ was launching the service with a breakout hit and now 6 months later, still no live action project to follow up. They should’ve had another major scripted series ready to go right after Mandalorian.

Disney over estimated the appeal of its catalogue and branding. That’s none to surprising, though. It’s essentially their MO.

Well, you can’t necessarily say it was a poor strategy though from a business standpoint with them already having 55M subs and they have a large slate of high profile projects that that should keep people interested once they start hitting.

Also, you can’t argue with a $6.99 price point. Being so cheap, they can get away with not having constant original content for the time being. If they were charging $14.99 like Netflix and HBO Max, I’d expect a hell of a lot more.

Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ are hyping this with the promise of multiple announcements for Disney+ today and possibly trailers. Let's hope we get something for Falcon and Winter Soldier.

Edit: Muppets Now coming July 31

FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER supposedly only had a couple of weeks of shooting left, so hopefully there's still a chance it could debut towards the end of the year. The service needs it in the worst way. Presumably the rest of the show has been edited and completed around those gaps, so if they could be back shooting by September, they could probably get it out in December.

I think they can be shooting again before September. They were overseas where the sets are and where they need to complete filming in Prague. Film Production is beginning again in the Czech Republic, too, so it's not ridiculous to think they could finish filming before the end of Summer and try to pump it out for October or November.

Being able to drop it the week after THE MANDALORIAN's season two finale airs would be fantastic.

The question becomes what happens to WandaVision. The production on this show wrapped just before the shutdown, so theoretically, it could move ahead of Falcon & Winter Soldier, but then there is the question that does events of F&WS somehow get tied into this and also, WandaVision was supposed to lead into Doctor Strange, which now isn't coming out until November 2021.

But with Disney+ desperate for content, I wonder if WandaVision will just be thrown out there so they have something.

I just don't get the Wandavision show. It has 2 of the worst and most irritating Marvel characters IMO and it's being played out like a sitcom? No thanks.

I have high hopes for Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I just have a feeling that Disney will be rubbish at bringing Marvel to TV. I very much hope I'm wrong, they need a big Marvel hit for D+.

It's not going to be a real Sitcom. They are using the sitcom format almost as a plot device that is meant to get the audience comfortable before things hit the fan.

Still zero interest from me, it sounds incredibly bad.

With MANDALORIAN coming in the fall and F&WS (hopefully) in late fall/winter, I think they could hold WANDAVISION until spring if they wanted to get it just a little closer to MULTIVERSE. Maybe bump up the WHAT IF? show and place it between F&WS and WANDAVISION as a stopgap.

That way you could probably have 30+ weeks of continuous new television content on Disney+, and theoretically by the time that's exhausted, the other shows in the offing (LOKI, CASSIAN ANDOR) would be ready to slide right in and you've got the service starting to be able to constantly have new episodes of at least one major show arriving every week.
