I think it's okay that the GotG ride doesn't have a name sign.
You can call it the "Star on a stick" ride or "the Barfinator 2000" or "the one that changed my parents into the Hulk" or "Ellen's Energy Adventure" and be surprised how that ride is much better after a pandemic. The ride means so much to so many, it's magical.

So this thing has been open for how long now? It really doesn't seem to have gotten a lot of attention anywhere online from the outlets or vloggers I follow for theme park stuff. It seemed like the hype for Velocicoaster was much higher and really reached a peak when it opened. Do people not like this ride?

Honestly I think it comes down to the fact Disney has reservations for the parks, the ride is VL only, and they can’t plan a day around maybe getting on. Compare this to VC which was open to all and embraced the meme culture around the ride.

Pretty much what Joe said. At the moment you have to go through several reservation hoops just to ride Cosmic Rewind once. Two if you manage to snag both a boarding group and a ILL. There is a third option with the Extended Evening Hours, but you need to be staying at either a Deluxe Hotel or Deluxe Villa in order to have that opportunity.

No matter how you approach it, you just can't show up to the park and ride it. That's what VC did, and it easily retained its hype as everyone was able to get on it whenever they'd like, and therefore comment about it. You just can't do that with CR, you have to set aside a good chunk of time just for the chance to ride it. And it's pretty clear folks aren't going out of their way to ride it if they're not planning to spend their morning/day at Epcot.

Getting on the ride with the VL is actually extremely easy now that it's been open for a bit as long as your party is in the park before 1. The 1pm reservation slot has been noted as being open for an average of 45-60 minutes as long as it's not a day where Epcot has extra evening hours.

The problem with VL though is that since they are managing capacity for the ride based on the VL, they can't brag about insane wait times or opening day crowds. I've come to really like the VL for this ride since this ride is pretty much a people eater, I get on it with ease pretty much every time I go to the park.

- VC was for a large part build during Covid, a time the super fans where hungry for anything.
- The marketing and social media departments at Universal are extremely good.
- After the marketing and opening the guests loved the ride. It added a unique coaster with perfect theming to the mix and so guest continued the work of the social media team.

- Disney overhyped Guardians ages ago.
- In the end it's another coaster in a box and not very social media friendly.
- For a lot of guests this coaster is too much and they get sick, it's not a great picture to post when someone is hanging over a trashcan.

Good point, it is way easier to get even a month later. But it still does cut down re-rides and such that bloggers tend to do.

Basically, it's easier to make videos about VC than CR. I don't think that's a direct translation to the rides success, of course.

I feeeel like Tron will have much more video coverage than Guardians

But even still, having track woven artistically through ride paths and around theming is a major win for Universal

It's actually one of the complaints I have with Iron Gwazi...for all of its grandeur, it's extremely hard to get good shots of

And it breaks the BGT philosophy of winding coasters around ride paths

I have seen a ton of Guardians videos though, and everyone seems to be enjoying it

Disney fandom, guests, demographic, are more resistant to motion sickness attractions, than Universal guests. If Velocicoaster was in WDW, it wouldn't be as positively received as it
is in the thrill seekers IOA park. That said, even in Universal, the line rarely exceeds 45 minutes since it's been opened. A very high thrill attraction, or one heavy on motion sickness, has
inherent guest limitations.....And that's why the true Theme Parks need diversified attractions, not just coasters, like the teenage and twentysomething demographic heavy, amusement parks.

I'm all for parks having things for everybody to do. I think even BGT could use a dark ride.

All interesting and insightful responses from everyone. I didn't mean to draw a direct comparison between Guardians and Velocicoaster, it was just the first thing I could think of that also has recently opened. I'm just so surprised by how little I've heard about Guardians considering it is a major Marvel-based attraction that Disney has finally managed to open. But I guess it makes sense since apparently it's easier to file your taxes rather than get a boarding pass lol. Disney sounds like a dreadful experience these days.

I live 4 minutes away from WDW and it really bothers me we have to use the virtual line. I only have the Pixie dust pass (only one available) so I can only go to the parks after work. I've only been able to ride GOTG twice (both on company holidays).

I think the ride's capacity and reliability should be good to go for a regular standby line in the next few weeks (hopefully). Disney seems perfectly fine running half of Tower of Terror with a standby line averaging a 2-hour wait daily, so a 2-3 hour wait doesn't bother them.

In reply to all of the posts regarding why Cosmic Rewind isn't creating a lot of buzz, here's my two cents:

Even though this ride is making a good chunk of people sick, it sounds like a lot of people really like the ride. While I don't think the fact that this took half a decade to build doesn't help, I'm convinced the biggest factor to the ride not getting as much buzz as it should is simply the bureaucracy of the whole reservation and virtual queue system. How many stories have you heard from angry guests who paid all of that money to check out RotR only to get screwed out of the VQ squirrel lottery? If I heard those stories and even experienced first-hand how complicated and stressful the experience is, I don't think I would spend all of that money to do it. Especially not in a potential recession.

I am going to Florida late September for a week to check out HHN and pay a visit to BGT, so I was hoping to stop by Epcot to go on this. When I heard that they were going to do VQ and LL only, I seriously considered just skipping Epcot altogether and do something else. While I had success with the VQ 90% of the time I went to Disney to go on RotR, I just don't want to put myself through that.

So yeah, all-in-all, it's the reservation and VQ system that's hindering its success. Disney has really shot themselves in the foot here with VQ.

I'm glad to see posts on here that are saying that it's still pretty easy to get a BG for the ride after 1. I feel pretty confident that the VQ should be gone by the time I go. The fact that Disney wants to make your experience as complicated and stressful as possible just baffles me. Let people just hop into line.

I don’t really get people’s issues with the VL system as it is now. Most of the time RotR had it was one thing because that was genuinely out of reliability issues, but from that point forward it’s basically impossible to not get a time slot to basically walk right on to a brand new ride. Lest we forget that Hagrids was on two separate VL system for ages that were both pretty crappy with issues that allowed people to book multiple rides from home.

For me, it’s just that the ride isn’t as rerideable as Velocicoaster. I’ve now been on it four times and it’s growing into a meh for me sitting through the same corny jokes like cake toast. Speed and G-forces are always rerideable.

How you view the VL is all dependent on how you tour the parks. If you're someone who is going to be in the park earlier, you'll have no problem at the very least getting a slot for the ride during the 1pm drop. The 7am drop is easy to secure a group as long as you are up as well.

However, Epcot is a park where a lot of locals come to later at night after work or something like that so if you tour the parks that way, you have pretty much no chance of getting on and that's how a regular stand-by would help. As has been noted, this ride also has excellent capacity, so I don't think stand-by times would be much more than 90 minutes normally and it being a stand-by ride would help ease the wait times of rides around the parks such as TT, FEA and Rat.
