My brother was probably around 6-7 the first time we went on ToT. That was back in the lap bar days, and we were in the same row as two rather... large... individuals. Needless to say, there was a good 5-6" between his lab and the bar because of this.

When we got to the drops, I watched him very carefully and saw that he was completely levitated off of the seat during each drop and was pressed against the bar. He loved it.

After we got off, my mom was waiting at the exit (she couldn't ride with us due to an injury). She asked us how it went, and my brother's literal words were: "Baby ride." (He was a pretty cynical kid.)

I think it's "thrilling" more than scary. The story is spooky, but not like a horror story or anything. The drops are intense, but the whole ride builds up to it, so I wouldn't say that it's scary as much as intense.

WDW's ToT is insanely superior over DCA's in so many ways. The pure scale and approach is overwhelming in DHS. Standing in the queue looking out onto the gardens is such an eerie feeling of grandiose. It takes the factor of WDW's full removal from the outside world and takes full advantage of it. The HTH grounds are massive, the lobby is far eerie and has a grander presence. The boiler room is seedier. The elevator moves in all different directions, there are randomized drops and you exit in a different place from where you started.

DCA's version is what it is. It is basically fun-size ToT, plopped unspectacularly on the pavement in the corner of DCA. The exterior queue is a small holding pen with some light themeing elements that really don't work considering that you're next to a pathway, and really fails when a parade comes by. The lobby is a nice imitation despite being literally at the attraction entrance, although the crashed elevators are perpendicular with the hotel (facepalm)... I don't have too much of an issue with the garishly lit boiler room, but that hallway that leads from the elevator door to another door is so, so dumb. Even worse? When you board, you can actually hear the people in the other shaft screaming.

That said: I still wouldn't want the DCA Tower to be savaged for Marvel. The combination of the Hyperion, Red Car Trolley and ToT makes for a charming 1920s/1930s area, the building looks great at night and despite its faults the ride is still pretty damn fun, and eerie in spots. The screams upon boarding do unnerve first riders pretty easily, the bellhop CMs are still grim, funny and on-point. The capacity is far greater and there is a lot to see in that boiler room. But most importantly the drop and aesthetic is kept intact, and those are the aspects I treasure the most. I would love for randomized drops to be added to the experience (seriously why hasn't this been done already), but on WDW's once the drops started it felt mostly the same. I think with some improvements, DCA could be seen on a similar level. Any which way: I think it's still a good ride despite its faults.

Leave my towers be, Disney.

Few fail to mention the extra creepy soundtrack in DCA's boiler room, which I find superior to WDW's.

Yes! ToT is, IMO, easily the best attraction on WDW property.

From the horse's mouth,

Haven't been back here hardly at all since I broke this news a month ago and as much as I hate to break it to the naysayers, things are still moving forward on both coasts.

From a well-placed source:

"The Tower project is moving along through approvals and design refinements, and the project now has a proposed timeline that closes the attraction this October instead of January as a more elaborate pre-show and queue plan has been given the thumbs up by TDA.

The project isn't formally funded yet as part of Fiscal '17, that won't happen until June or July, but WDI keeps getting happy words and encouragement from TDA and Burbank. TDA could care less about the upset fans, as they consider them to be of the same variety that were upset about Aladdin and Mad T Party closing. TDO continues to balk at the price tag but Chapek thinks the Guardians franchise is the right way to go long term. "

In other words, almost a done deal for Anaheim and still likely for Orlando ... please stick that in your Tweeter!

The irony is that there currently is a Twilight zone film in development right when this rumour came around

Guardians can't even be used on the east coast past 2018.

I can't imagine ToT closing for an extended period of time in Orlando right now. That would take the park down to 4 - yup FOUR - rides.

The sound track or the actual boiler room? Because I cannot get behind calling DCA's day-glow boiler room superior.

I don't believe it at all. Spirit got his magical cronies riled up as per the course, I guess.

This is a guy who's been right about many things in the past including the attraction lineup for Shanghai years before it was announced.

I believe it's possible in Anaheim, considering ToT is near where a Marvel area would go, but WDW? I'll believe it when I see it. And even then i'll be in disbelief.

Certain in-cement facts about the Orlando version directly contradict what he is saying here. He's sadly probably right about DCA, but DHS? I call BS.

It's possible to be right about some things and wrong about others. Now only if BRIAN WOULD GET THAT CONTRACT POST UP ;)

I'm not ripping on you guys, but you can dissect that contract all you want, but you can't stop Disney from deciding to do something stupid. Universal can take action if they feel they have grounds, but it also comes down to if they feel it's worth fighting (and putting up the money to do so).

If Disney has been treading carefully before with the Monorail wrap, I don't see why they would say "Screw the contract" all of the sudden and go through with this.

You have to remember this is almost completely new management in there, many of whom don't know what the hell they're doing.

I don't think this is a concept for WDW in the slightest, but the hypothetical is interesting.

1) This could be seen as diluting Universal's brand, and once the Guardians cross over with the Avengers in Infinity War, all arguments Disney had to stand on largely go out the window. I think Universal would be able to win a case against the ride.

2) At the same time, I think getting rid of ToT dilutes Disney's brand to a hilarious degree. Universal might rather sit back and laugh at the insanely bad idea.

Touche.

I'd have to imagine that, unless Universal reached out and gave the go ahead, they've already called them and said "Nahhhhhhhhhh chill fam - East of Mississippi is our turf.".
