Im pretty eh on insult emporium. Most of the jokes were just "you are x . X does this stereotype. I love the interactive element and get how it is somewhat in character, but like, by the third "this guy is gay," it gets old and unappealing to GP. I don't get why Halloween always means mean-spirited or raunchy comedy (not that I'm against it, I perform with RHPS shadowcast and love dirty jokes). The whole dated edgy vibe of the event died for a good reason. Bill and tedd, slaughterworld, hanging at Knotts. Even the gogo performers. While I love Burlesque and gogo, it doesn't need to be at an event with frankenstein haunted houses lol. Just seems a little raunchy for the sake of trying to appear dangerous and freak out prudes/the "pc" crows, rather than a fun Scary experience for everyone.
When I wore my glasses one year, chucky told me “if Clark Kent were a midget he’d be you.” Love the insults, could be a minority on this tho

Just to play devils advocate, but is HHN for everyone or for a horror centric crowd? That’s what Knotts dealt with when they axed the hanging. The “cult” following was superseded by the GP. I’m glad B&T and the Hanging are gone in their OG iterations, the jokes are just sour, but I’ve often wondered if the core audience wants a bit of raunchy back.

Isn't Hanging returning this year?

I mean it's worth considering that it's far more widely recognized that horror fans as a collective are a much more diverse group of people than was considered to be the case in the mid 2000s. There's no reason to incorporate raunch designed pretty much exclusively for drunk college age men like was the primary focus of the time with those shows and restrict yourself when even massive corporations can't ignore the fact that horror is more widely and visibly enjoyed by different groups more now than probably any other point in time, and thus they have a much wider set of groups to market to.
"Everyone" in this case is still pretty much just meaning horror fans, it's now just a much broader range of horror fans being appealed to than trying to lock in on slashers and torture porn and crude jokes. As much as people bemoan the death of gritty edgy horror nights, I'm willing to bet houses like Killer Klowns, Poltergeist, Creepshow, or even any of the Universal Monsters houses would have never seen the light of day without the death of 2000s horror nights mentalities.

I think you’d be surprised how many people go to HHN who aren’t what you would consider to be “horror fans”. I understand this is strictly antidotal, but I know of a pretty good amount of people that are barely into horror films, if at all, but they go because either their friends want to go and do a house or two and rides, or they’re wanting to check out Stranger Things or TLOU because they want to check them out. There’s also a lot of party people that go that want to get drunk and have a good time. So there’s also that.

I always hear that there was "backlash" from Bill and Ted and the Hanging....cool don't go to the Show event then

It's like how Ghost Galaxy isn't at Disneyland any more because parents ignored the many many signs saying it was spooky. It just sucks we live in a world where we can't have fun because someone might not like everything.
I didn't like Jabbawockeez's but I just ignored that show and did mazes

But especially HHN, it's too big to be taken down by a few upset people.

But the Chucky insult show, Bill and Ted Show and Sarcastic Escalator from all video's and me being there were full of people laughing and only positive energy. Whenever I bring up HHN to friends, they always say Remember Bill and Ted those were so much fun

I'm also open to new shows, I hope they have character and are fun and not just generic Jabbawockeez type shows (sorry if you like the show, its great for vegas but doesn't have much character to me at least)

I hope this is the last time I say this for a while but:

Bill and Ted didn’t go away because people “didn’t like it.” It went away, at least in part, because of a homophobic joke. And, perhaps as importantly, this type of joke was so baked into the bread of what makes that show go, it was decided to retire it completely.

Let’s all let it go.

So bring it back without those jokes.

That's not why I was there anyway. It was literally a recap of the year making fun of movies, music, current events. You;d most likely have to cut anything political but once again I wasn't there for jokes about Obama or Trump anyway.

But getting to make fun of Megan, the Mario Movie (with Peaches song sung of course) Barbie, oppenheimer, heck if you can have them cut to the TVs and have directors on for a second, People would love it if Nolan appeared for one second on the TV and said "I'm not doing this and just walks away" And have other directors making jokes about there film.

(also doesn't have to be Bill and Ted...be the same kinda show with new hosts )

I know it's not coming back because of how things are now, and really just hope the new shows have character and feel like something you'd only see at HHN

the whole reason the show got pulled in hollywood had to do with a “joke” related to movie characters.

it’s okay to move on from this show. there are lots of fun ways to do entertainment at horror nights that aren’t this.
we already did this. and because bill & ted is neither speculated nor rumored for the 2023 event, let's move on from this discussion.

So, in most recent construction news...
A Dollz scarezone was seen near the fire towers.
Seems to be some sort of "Annabelle look-alike" featured on the posters.
I'm wondering if this was originally where Megan was supposed to show up. Definitely a missed opportunity not to tie in some sort of Chucky vs. Megan idea and heck, why not include Annabelle too?

Conjuring rights are six flags this year, and probably. Universal reuses everything and also repurposes things a whim.

It depends on your definition of horror fans. I think it's fair to say that diehards are not the majority coming to the event, but honestly if you're in a situation where you consider it fun to be scared in a horror-themed environment, and are willing to pay specifically for that experience, you're probably at least a little into horror as a genre to the point where you'd probably fall into the outer reaches of horror fandom to some degree.
Even if its on an extremely tangential mainstream level and they only watch 1-2 horror movies a year, you're not going to see people who are actively uniniterested in scary things at the event unless they were forced by someone who is interested in that. By the nature of that idea, for every uninterested person there has to also be an interested person to get them there.

Perhaps leaning into next year speculation with this but this is still something I wonder, with the yearly occurance of hurricanes potentially becoming a more common factor in the pacific coastline; could USH try to get some of the hurricane proof tents that Orlando got back when they needed it the most?

I know with the upcoming Hurricane it is expected to become a tropical storm by the time it gets to Los Angeles; but multiple inches of rain could still be a factor in determining what could and could not get damaged by Hillary. Checking measurements as I could, and Cinema Lot seems like they'd be easily able to get two of those tents in, even if they'd become permament fixtures.

If theres one good thing global warming gives us, I guess it could be dark tent mazes during early entry lol

DP, but HNN has put DreamWorks Theater to be a speculated Blumhouse experience! Blumhouse: Behind The Screams. HNN is also claiming that the WaterWorld show is indeed The Purge, making this two IP experiences by the same studio that isn't a house.

Really nice expansion of offerings with the two Blumhouse attractions. Kinda interested in the costumes for Ghostz too despite the fact that I'm not expecting much in terms of decor.

Sounds like a fun year!

As someone who is gay and sat through said homophobic joke I will say every homesexual in my group of 10 that night found the joke funny. It seems like this went the way of everything in our current society where those of the affected group are the least offended but a smaller group of "crusaders" for social justice are greatly offended for the benefit of none.
